Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from here.

Today I am wearing - a bright/hot pink long sleeved top, a teal tube skirt, grey leggings and a stripy scarf that picks up these colours and adds pop.

I saw some kids hair accessories in the chemist yesterday that included an emerald green kirby grip - think I will pop back and get them "for my daughter" today. Grin

I thought yesterday that I could see why people would choose their clothes for the next day the night before - not because it is an chore that should be dealt with but because it is FUN and NICEn and a pleasure to think about clothes.

Wow. Such a turnaround since a few months ago. Loving it.

givemeaminute · 03/01/2014 12:49

Face, sounds good! Can I ask about teal? Because there is nothing remotely teal in my HoC swatches, I had assumed that teal is not a winter colour but then I was looking at the Kettlewell sale catalogue which arrived today and noticed that they class their deep teal colour as summer, autumn and winter and sometimes spring too!!!

How can one colour be all seasons? And why is it not in the swatches? Perhaps I shouldn't have ditched my teal clothes, although they were probably a more muted teal than the strong teal in the Kettlewell catalogue.

ElizabethBathory · 03/01/2014 14:20

I am also confused about teal :)

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 03/01/2014 14:48

I don't think I look good in teal. It definitely isn't as good as other clearer blues. I don't think it is terrible on some people but it just isn't great on me. Certainly proper turquoise makes me look a bit unwell. Darker teal is okay.

But a skirt is not near my face and clashes nicely with the pink. Grin

All these systems are different, aren't they, so it is about figuring out what gives you that big boost like the really good colours marked as two star by the consultant.

ElizabethBathory · 03/01/2014 15:39

But Kettlewell and HoC should agree with each other, surely! I definitely don't look great in most teals, but can see how a really deep, rich one would work on a winter.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 03/01/2014 18:15

Found some great bits in a charity shop today. Woollen narrow houndstooth scarf in proper black and white. Incredibly bright blue narrow chiffon-y scarf. Would never have touched either of these but the houndstooth in particular I am delighted with. Medium weight grey scarf for warmth. And a sort of velvety posh wine coloured scarf from Wallis. Two quid each.

PLUS a fitted black shirt - exactly what a dramatic gamine jewel winter should be wearing but I owned exactly zero fitted shirts so am delighted with this. Hurrah!

SorrelForbes · 03/01/2014 21:48

Has anyone tried anything from the Besame cosmetics range? I'm quite tempted by this

Plumpysoft · 03/01/2014 22:37

I bought this in vibrant pink, it rocks!

Plumpysoft · 03/01/2014 22:37

That looks lovely sorrel

MissScatterbrain · 04/01/2014 17:10

Re teal - there is a shade called Sea Green (I think) that's in the summer palette and a similar one in the Autumn one.

I think some winters can wear a very strong bold teal with black -I used to have a lovely teal top which sadly faded after one wash too many.

QueenCadbury · 04/01/2014 20:44

I bought the revlon lip butter in lollipop today with my boots points. My next purchase when I have enough points will be mavala nail polish in amethyst.

Saw this coat in hobbs and was salivating Grin

Gorgeous coat Queen!

I took off my sparkly red Christmas nail polish today and replaced it with Leighton Denny Miss Behavin. It's such a perfect shimmery midnight blue and always looks blue rather than black, unlike some other dark blues like Blue Satin.

MissScatterbrain · 04/01/2014 23:18

I love the shimmer and the dark blue.

Gorgeous coat. Bought a classic black trench mac in the sales - not very exciting but I love how I look in it and I can stop wearing my parka which I feel is too scruffy for me.

GingerLemonTea · 05/01/2014 14:32

Nail colours lovely. I like a bright colour on my toes, but am not the best at putting it on my fingernails. Combo of toddler, chips after a day & can't wear it to work so not worth lots of effort.
I have bought Dior Glow for nails glow. Mixed reviews, but I love it. 2 coats, with not the steadiest hand, give my nails a very natural pink glow and I just feel more made up even though its subtle. The pink bit looks pinker & white, whiter. It's more intense in natural light.

I returned the bag and also various bits & bobs that family got me for Christmas that were the wrong colours. So now I have more vouchers, plus a pair of black boots (silver buckle) and black fine jumper from items that were exchange only.

Am also pregnant! So might wardrobe transformation may be on hold a bit longer as I feel it makes it even harder and I hate not getting wear out of clothes. Big shopping trip once baby is a few months old I think. For now I will be sticking to accessories.

givemeaminute · 05/01/2014 18:36

Thanks for the thoughts re teal. I suppose a strong teal might be fine as halfway between navy and dark green? I tend to suit the darker winter colours so I might give it a go and see how it looks. I'm hoping to go back for a style day so I will see what the consultant thinks. She is also a winter so that might be extra helpful.

I too have taken off my sparkly dark red nail varnish - my nails look very bare! I might need to try something else dark, but perhaps not as sparkly!

MissScatterbrain · 05/01/2014 19:05

No sparkly nails here either - loved having these during the festive season though. Wearing wine red by Barry M but will probably go for navy next time these need doing.

Let me know what your consultant says about teal - bet she says no way though....

QueenCadbury · 05/01/2014 21:35

Congratulations ginger.

I wish I'd asked for Dior nail glow for Christmas.

Re teal, I always think of teal as being warmer (and more green), and petrol blue being cooler and more blue. I would go for a petrol blue as opposed to a teal. So this would be petrol blue, but this would be teal. HTH

givemeaminute · 06/01/2014 22:10

That's a good comparison Miss Scatterbrain. I found this webpage which shows dark teal as a deep autumn colour. Makes sense when you compare it to petrol blue. I wonder why Kettlewells have it as ok for winters though? I will ask when I go back for style.

MissScatterbrain · 08/01/2014 18:41

Let me know what she says Givemeaminute.

Has anyone bought anything exciting in the sales? I am so glad Spring stock is starting to come into the shops - does anyone have their eye on anything?

I had a quick look at Boden's spring catalogue and there was nothing at all that I fancied trying on.

I fancy a new breton top but can't find anything I like yet although spotted a few on Atterley Road but all have sold out...

MissScatterbrain · 08/01/2014 18:43

I am starting to get bored of wearing dark nail polish but it does not feel right to move onto bright red/shocking pink yet (esp since I know I will be fed up with these colours by the time summer starts).

GingerLemonTea · 08/01/2014 18:49

I have bought this lip salve in the cherry. It's very cheap, moisturising, has SPF & just gives a light red bit of colour.

LittleBabyPigsus · 09/01/2014 05:40

MissScatterbrain maybe just go for sheer white/silver/opal glitters, maybe even just glittery top coats on their own? Feels wintery but lighter.

QueenCadbury · 12/01/2014 21:26

Hello ladies. This beauty blogger has jut been diagnosed as a sultry winter so it may be worth seeing what she comes up with and recommends.
