Hi Springs.
New thread, hopefully, with the following link to our old one....

Early Spring

I got red too which surprised my consultant as I am so rosy you would think it would clash but actually it mutes my pinkness Grin

FrugalFashionista · 12/02/2014 16:51

I only wrote my messages because it sounded that some of you were deeply shaken because you received a different 'diagnosis' from a different expert.

I tried to explain that classification is fraught if the classification principles are unclear or very subjective.

If you believe in your season, great, enjoy the results! (Incidentally, my star sign diagnosis is also rather flattering and hence, of course, highly accurate Wink That's related to the 'Barnum bias' phenomenon - we are likely to believe positive, broad and generic descriptions about ourselves. We can develop a 'Spring' identity or a 'Aquarius' identity by endorsing and adopting those aspects of the description that fit us. If the description is broad enough, something in it will always fit. The larger your personal palette is, the higher the likelihood that it will contain at least a couple of colors that will look great on you.)

If you get different answers from different experts, do not blame yourself - you've just stumbled on the cracks in the system. I'm no expert but color theory seems pretty complex and I think commercial outfits like HoC and CMB may be overinterpreting and oversimplifying it. When you are trying to capture complex systems, getting it right can be really challenging.

Fooogle · 12/02/2014 17:01

Good to hear your confidence peeps.
Just feeling muddled right now.
I think I've just lost sight of what looks good bit I guess also if I am on cusps if seasons it will be a bit fuzzy.
I really like the hoc system and feel it is really empowering when you feel it's doing its magic. I ve thought about training to do it myself...!

midnightinmoscow · 12/02/2014 17:12

Frugal when you joined the W&A thread some time ago, I was sure I remember you praising colour analysis and how you loved being a summer.

What went wrong? Did you decide you didn't look that good in the end?

rumpled · 12/02/2014 17:50

The reason I went for a HoC analysis was because I have no idea what suits me. Everything I held up to my face looked meh and I had a wardrobe of conflicting clothes as a result.

What I wanted was for someone who understood colour to put things up to my face and show me what to look for myself. The whooping of the other strangers on the day at my chosen seasonal colours helped me understand that I wasn't just a winter, I am a sultry winter. I can wear navy and black but I look dynamite in carmine red and pine green.

Not all of can 'see' colour and what works on us. It takes some objectivity, a smidge of science and (what my HoC consultant had) EXPERIENCE to pull it altogether.

FrugalFashionista · 12/02/2014 17:58

Nothing went wrong, I've just been hard to classify to begin with. I become more sceptical when lots of color analysis systems started changing (12 class systems became 16 class systems) and started questioning the underlying principles. I'm not sure I believe in them any more. The palette creates a nice and coherent wardrobe, but I look and feel good in other colors as well.

Joycey29 · 12/02/2014 19:37

Love my colour swatch and not bothered about season - other than to be on this thread Grin
Was just interested that HOC thought I was autumn.
Scarves and lippy in today as I missed Tuesday!

Aquelven · 12/02/2014 20:00

Me too, Joycey, been following your lead Grin
Found a dead ringer for the discontinued HoC Spring Shocking Pink for just £1, MUA No15 from Superdrug Smile
The Uniqlo cashmere jumper I ordered has arrived, really nice, a keeper.

Gillybobs · 12/02/2014 20:02

I know so many people who've had an overwhelmingly positive experience with HoC there's not a shred of doubt it works. Is it infallible? No. Not much is. Does that mean we should doubt it's validity or usefulness? I'd say no.

Hope you figure things out fooogle
, I'm sure you will get there.

I'd also like to thank Hopefully for her input, it's great that you take the time to answer our questions, your insight is incredibly helpful.Hope you are keeping well, not long to go!

Gillybobs · 12/02/2014 20:03

Joycey why not scarf and lippy every day? Works for me Grin

Hopefully · 12/02/2014 20:06

Thanks for your kind words Gilly Smile. Feels like an age to go, but only 6 weeks or so.

I'll keep lurking for a bit, so do let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

Aquelven · 12/02/2014 20:18

Thank you, Hopefully we really do appreciate your kindness.
Six weeks! A lovely time to be born with spring & summer to look forward to with your new little one. Smile

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 12/02/2014 20:25

I was about to say that!! Spring babies are brilliant. My first is/was.... It's so much nicer pushing a little baby round in the summer.

Thanks again Hopefully! I really really appreciate your input. Makes a lot of sense to me - even though I think there is a not insignificant subjective component involved.

Gilly - a few of us are lipstick-phobes so we're trying to break ourselves in gently.... It's the bit I struggle with most. I hate looking like I have make up on and feel very 'showy'/middle-aged wearing it (even though I totally admit it makes my eyes look bluer and shinier).

Joycey - will join you for a lipstick Thursday this week then... I missed Tuesday too Wink.

Joycey29 · 12/02/2014 22:20

Never wore a scarf or daily lippy before last year so one step at a time Grin

Aquelven · 12/02/2014 22:38

I find I'm getting a bit obsessive with buying scarves & lippies! Blush

OP posts:
Fooogle · 13/02/2014 01:57

aque in trying to sort my right colours from wrong I has an embarrassing number of coral/red lippies! Have put in a big bag for now! I'd just bought a new chanel one before the colour day Grin... Bit orangey if my winter ness is true!! Called incandescente....
Found it useful to think of just needing three lippies (suggested in colour day, guessing same for all seasons?) but expect I won't adhere to it!

Fooogle · 13/02/2014 02:01

Thanks little. I'll try a new look visit and superdrug. Just need to sneak the children off my hands Wink

Fooogle · 13/02/2014 06:51

Oops. My moonlighting on winter thread too has led to the last post! Grin

MrsPeacockDidIt · 13/02/2014 11:53

Now I have the daily lippy sorted (I bought the Revlon butter candy apple this morning too!) I thought I'd ask whether anyone had seen any good spring scarves around.

At the moment most of wardrobe is plain blocks of colour so i ideally i'd like a bit of pattern in a scarf.

In particular I have a turquoise jumper I'd love to wear more but there is just too much of the colour going on so i though a scarf would break up the block of colour a bit.

I'm not going to buy too much else at the moment because I want to wait for my style day in March. Very excited about it Grin

YouHaveBeenOutbid · 13/02/2014 16:38

Mrs Peacock - I had the revlon lip butter in candy apple in my bag when I went for my colours day. I love it, it's the first bright lipstick I've owned and I think it suits me but the consultant said no! I'm wondering now if she was just trying to push HoC make up on me as I've seen candy apple mentioned a few times as being good for Springs. It's certainly less middle aged than the one I ended up buying (and am reluctantly wearing today!). I'm going to keep it and may even buy it make it a repeat purchase as I think it's lovely :)

The lipstick thing is really difficult. I can see now that it makes my eyes look bright but I'm not a fan of bright matte lipstick.

I get a lot of scarves off ebay - there's an overwhelming choice, just filter on 100% silk or whatever to narrow it down.

Aquelven · 13/02/2014 17:44

MrsP YouHave put a link on recently to a lovely scarf that might go with your jumper. This was it Here

Well, I really like the Candy Apple butter too & this week I bought one that I think is even nicer, Juicy Papaya.

Fooogle THREE LIPSTICKS!!!!! Shock no, no no....no way. Three bags of lippies more like itGrin

Mumelie · 13/02/2014 19:25

I love those Revlon lip butters. Another good one is Wild Watermelon.

Mumelie · 14/02/2014 14:09

Just had a Boden email saying that their clearance section has up to 80% off until midnight Monday - picked up a few nice Spring colour summer bits (so much for my not spending)!

WhoNickedMyName · 14/02/2014 14:17

Hi Springs, another flying visit from me.

Lovely scarf YouHaveBeenOutbid.

Have quickly skimmed the last few pages of the thread, wrong diagnosis – what a nightmare! No doubt in my mind I’m a spring… Corals, tangerine and bright pinks look soooo good on me and I’ve had so many compliments when I’m wearing those colours.

I’ve quite the collection of lipsticks now, MUA at Superdrug are fab, their lipsticks are £1 so even if they turn out to be not quite right they’re a cheap mistake to make. I really get it now – the whole springs must wear lipstick, I look much better with it on. Only problem is my lips are drying out terribly. I’ve been recommended to try Lansiloh nipple cream, apparently it makes an amazing lip balm?

I’m getting a bit more confident in knowing if a colour is springy without having to consult my colour wallet too much which is good. My latest purchase is this in turquoise for a bargainous £15.80 to wear with jeans of a weekend.

I'm going to the hairdressers tomorrow to get my hair highlighted, this time with some caramel and honey blonde, can't wait, it's desperate to be done!

Have a great weekend everyone.
