Hi Springs.
New thread, hopefully, with the following link to our old one....

Early Spring

Thanks aque... Interesting about patterns. I haven't been yet to have my style done...was wondering of there was a 'reason' certain things looked less good...

Hopefully · 09/12/2013 10:07

Hello! just popped over from the Autumn thread to answer Aque's question about blue Springs. Apologies for the long answer...

Basically, a Blue Spring is still definitely a 'warm' skin tone, it just isn't as warm as, say, a paintbox or a golden spring. So it's cooler than most Springs, but definitely not cool, if that makes sense. A Blue Spring is most likely to be confused with a Winter, as they are usually very 'Bright', and is generally seen as a leaning-towards-Winter season (but don't let that trick you into thinking you're cool if you are a Blue Spring). A Pastel Spring can be (but isn't always) a less-warm Spring who might look like a Summer.

In each of the HoC seasons, there is a category or two for someone who is less warm or less cool - I am a Blue Autumn, for instance. I look exactly like a Winter, any online analysis makes me a Winter, and my skin tone isn't very warm, but it is warm. Fuchsia/magenta/cobalt blue/chinese blue/black all make me look like a walking corpse.

It is hard to equate that with CMB or other companies, as I know for a fact that CMB's equivalent of a Bright Spring palette contains a few blue based colours, and also some of what i would call Autumn colours (i.e. quite rich/muted). I have one of these palettes sat in front of me as I type - I was incorrectly analysed as a Clear and Warm (Bright/Blue Spring equivalent) by CMB, but could immediately see that lots of the colours really didn't work on me, and IMO that's because they draw from too many seasons and I don't think they have an equivalent of a Blue Autumn, which is probably why I was analysed wrongly - there was literally nowhere to put me in their system, as far as I can tell. I don't think the CMB deep autumn palette (closest equivalent to a Blue Autumn) has any of my best colours - royal purple, petrol, geranium, forest green etc.

While I'm here, Fooogle the style day covers scale of patterns (big, medium or small or somewhere in between) and also what type of patterns (angular, geometric, regular dot/stripe type patterns, more floral/flowy patterns etc etc). Among about a million other things, but pattern issues would definitely be clear after style day. It's to do not only with the physical scale and body architecture of the person, but also their presence/personality/attitudes etc.

BeginnerSAHM · 09/12/2013 11:38

Hi Hopefully!! That's beautifully explained...! The only thing I'd add is that CMB used to categorise people as seasons, in the same way as HoC, and they always put you in a 'warm' or 'cool' category. The 'new' CMB system should still translate to their old categories. Like Hopefully, I came out 'clear and warm' but am a spring. (Came out as a 'clear spring' many many years ago when done by CMB!) Sounds like they did misdiagnose you though Hopefully... My 'clear and warm' swatch book is pretty good but they gave me 'light' as my third characteristic (everybody has three in that system but the last one is least dominant) and the 'light and warm' colours look rubbish on me. Whereas I only look bad in about two of the spring HoC colours (and then not as bad as I do in, mustard or fushia for example!).

Gillybobs · 09/12/2013 13:10

Hopefully I'm a paint box in HoC but just don't look good in the warm chocolates and oranges but really suit charcoal and even some winter pinks. I totally need high contrast in my outfits as the 12bp lady says bright springs do....do you think HoC could have gotten the paintbox part of my diagnosis wrong? 12bps website uses a picture of Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins as a typical bsp and it matches me perfectly.......

Hopefully · 09/12/2013 15:56

Gilly it's not beyond the realms of possibility they got the paintbox bit wrong, but TBH those aren't going to be ** colours on a Paintbox Spring either - they're very Golden Spring colours (which you can think of in terms of leaning towards autumn). Regarding grey, a lot of Springs can push their greys darker than the HoC drapes, as long as they're still a clear bright grey, if that makes sense - I always think of a Spring grey as one that looks sensible with the bright navy rather than the true winter navy.

alemci · 09/12/2013 17:04

hi hopefully

which colours do suit you. I gather you are a warm possibly Autumn.

butterfliesandflowers · 09/12/2013 17:15

Hi Hopefully, I am a HoC blue spring, but while I do need the less warm colours I appear quite low contrast and my cons said light greys, blues and pinks - colours closest to summer! Do all consultants use all the categories in the same way? My cons also only compared me between spring and summer saying that I am obviously light so no need to consider autumn or winter - which again makes me confused to think of me being closer to winter than summer?

Sorry to question you, I wish there was more HoC info out there rather than just the sci art stuff!

Aquelven · 09/12/2013 17:37

Thank you so much, Hopefully. Both for coming over here following my request & for giving us such s clear explanation.
I'm a Blue Spring, you may have guessed Grin like Butterflies & have very little contrast too, though I don't think we have the same colouring. I'm very pale with uncoloured hair so blonde it looks virtually white & turquoise eyes. All my ** colours are blues, turquoises & purple, apart from the spring red, but I find some colours not on our palette get compliments when I wear them, especially pale, baby blue, lilacs & light pinks. I can wear most greys too, or think I can!

EustaciaVye · 09/12/2013 17:56

I was never given a season by CMB "sniffs"
Think I am in the right place though. Clear and warm. Blue eyes, brown hair, rosy cheeked

Gillybobs · 09/12/2013 18:18

Alemci, Hopefully is a hoC consultant!

Aquelven · 09/12/2013 18:27

I hope she has time to become a fixture on here!

Gilly, have you any links to the 12 Blueprints site that might be useful to us, please? You seem to know your way around there. I tried a search but got lost & confused.

OP posts:
alemci · 09/12/2013 18:35

Thanks Gilly. didn't realiseSmile

LittleBabyPigsus · 09/12/2013 18:55

Confused. Thought I was a Winter (fuchsia/magenta/cobalt blue/chinese blue/black look GREAT on me, as does a bright scarlet red) but I have a neutral skin tone, and can wear warm-ish lipsticks like a tomato red or a very pink coral, although not those colours in clothing. Don't wear jewellery but I think I can wear both gold and silver. Think I'm a Bright Winter (no money to see a consultant) but some people on the Winter thread suggested a Blue Spring? I am not convinced though tbh.

BeginnerSAHM · 09/12/2013 19:10

Ah, littlebabypigsus, you can only really tell if you do the drape thing. Sadly! If you look amazing in fushia and not so great in a warm corally pink, you should be a winter. It may be that your natural lip pigment changes the colour of an only-slightly-warm-coral-pink. Forget the lipstick and try coloured fabrics near your face without make-up. If coral pink suits you more than fushia you're likely to be a spring and if it's the other way, you'll be a winter. But can't be draping really. I couldn't work it out myself....

LittleBabyPigsus · 09/12/2013 19:29

Ahh that's a good point about lip pigment! My lips are very mauve (turns a hot pink sheer lipstick into a magenta). Fuchsia clothing definitely suits me more than coral, so seems like I am a Winter :)

Aquelven · 09/12/2013 20:02

Don't think you're a blue spring from what you say, though could be wrong, you honestly never know till you get draped. Warmish pink lipstick does look good on Blue Spring, I wear a lot of pinks but can't take them if there's any hint of mauve in them, they have to have some bright warmth in them. Try plum, I can't wear that at all on my face without looking ill.

OP posts:
LittleBabyPigsus · 09/12/2013 22:25

Plum looks good, I have some plum lipsticks including Topshop Beguiled which is very dark.

Gillybobs · 09/12/2013 22:29

Aque the problem with the 12 blueprints site is you need to know your season in her system to find the best articles for you. One post that's useful for all is her colour equations post, where she suggests ways to wear each palettes colours together. Helped me get my head around the fact as a bright spring I NEED high contrast in my outfit. That's something my HoC consultant didn't even touch on and I fumbled around for months with my palette, not quite understanding why my outfits still felt a bit meh. I absolutely must use my dark neutrals with a touch of a light and a bright to get my best combinations. Wearing several mid bright tones makes me look and feel like a kids tv presenter. So yeah, thank god for the unicorn lady

Gillybobs · 09/12/2013 22:30

littlebaby, I can do bright pink better than coral too . I can't see anyone who rocks tomato red lippy being a winter, seems completely unlikely

Gillybobs · 09/12/2013 22:37

Anyone who suspects they are bright spring this is a great post

Alemci I am a very very blue autumn, I ** in royal purple, forest green, geranium red, dark brown (almost an aubergine shade), and petrol navy. I also do well in lizard grey (soft murky grey), oyster and orange. I need to do high contrast, like a lot of blue springs.

Butterflies much like you can get a softer blue autumn, you can get a softer blue spring. It's possible you're closer to summer, but impossible to say without seeing/draping you. There is an excellent class now as part of the HoC journey which is colour development (I'm actually not sure what the 'proper' name for the class is, as it used to be part of the style development class) which goes into more depth about colour/lipstick combinations. It's what helped me really get to grips with how much contrast I need (loads - due to being a blue autumn and a dramatic clothing personality).

butterfliesandflowers · 10/12/2013 10:24

thank you for clarifying Hopefully, DH too is a Dark blue Autumn! V celtic pale skin with blue green eyes and dark hair!

Joycey29 · 10/12/2013 13:18

Marking place! X

Hopefully · 10/12/2013 14:55

Butterflies I have v pale skin too (not freckly or anything though, just, you know, pale!), very dark hair and sort of brown eyes that are clearly hazel when you put anything autumn coloured up against me. Typical Winter look, apart from the freaky changing eye colour!
