Handbag quandary - WWYD?

AmberNectarine · 12/10/2013 08:22

I have been saving my pennies for a bag for a while now. Initially I had intended to throw all my cash at one major 'investment' bag - probably this or this. Then I started complicating the issue, thinking it needed to be big enough to house my work laptop etc etc, which ruled out a lot of nice choices.

Then I spied this little lovely which would obviously house almost nothing. So then I thought maybe I should get that and one of these for carting my work/toddler crap.

And now I'm confused - WWYD?

NB. If the answer to this question is give all the money to charity and stop being so shallow, please don't waste your time Wink

I don't like having two bags for work. I used to do the big bag for laptop and files, and small bag for personal stuff, but it was a faff. Got a nicer big bag (not a Balenciaga though Envy) and much happier with just that.

Nothing constructive to say, but that Givenchy is lovely! (drool). The MK bag is v nice and perhaps a good compromise? I'm off to the states tomorrow and will be seeking out the MK Selma.

MarshaBrady · 12/10/2013 08:29

Love the Balenciaga and really like the Kors too as back up.

Psst what happened to the P. Lim? Did you decide it was a no?

foxysocks · 12/10/2013 08:31

I love the mk totes, v beautiful and useful if you have lots to carry around. If you got the bal/givenchy would you try to get your work stuff into it daily? I would worry that would wreck it.

AmberNectarine · 12/10/2013 08:32

Marsha P Lim in unlined which is a worry for me as I have a history of spilling drinks/foundation in my bags...

That little bag is useless.
Buy one of the first two.

BellaVita · 12/10/2013 08:34

I would go for the two bags. I think the MK one is lovely. I bought the Hamilton one (in tan) a few weeks ago and looked at the one you like whilst deliberating which to buy.

MarshaBrady · 12/10/2013 08:34

Ah naughty P not lining.

The Kors looks perfect for sharp edged folders of paper etc

AmberNectarine · 12/10/2013 08:34

foxy pretty sure my laptop wouldn't fit in either. I'd end up lugging my ugly laptop backpack as well which would be a bit of a mare. My white MK Jet Set is great for slinging my work crap in, but not very winter appropriate, hence why I'm considering the grey or burgundy...

And laptop. So I'd say a beautiful bag you adore - one of first two.

And lovely work one too- Kirs.

Mummyoftheyear · 12/10/2013 08:36

One bag. Like first two. Then pop to M&S / Boots/ Primarche and buy yourself transparent cosmetic zip bags. Use each for a different purpose: one for nappies n wipes, another for change of baby's clothes, etc.
pop cosmetic bags into the bag that you actually love. Done. Don't forget to put copious nappy sacs into cosmetic bag containing nappies n wipes. Nappy bag used to put spoiled clothes (poo-through) so that your handbag is protected. Or hold 'til piped into car.
This is your best way to use a bag you actually like, feel a zillion dollars and have a Pacapod thing going on.
I had lots of fab changing bags but ended up doing this.
Best actual changing bag was rucksack style Pacapod as leaves two hands free for toddler + baby/ shopping/ buggy.
I'd choose sturdy stylish rucksack though.

MarshaBrady · 12/10/2013 08:36

Kors obvs!

AKissIsNotAContract · 12/10/2013 08:36

I'd go for the Givenchy. Balenciagas look nicer online than they do in Selfridges.

AmberNectarine · 12/10/2013 08:44

Great tips Mummyoftheyear - mine are thankfully more toddlers than babies, so I'm past needing a changing bag as such, just need to have room for assorted toy cars/spare pants/boxes of raisins etc. Like the separate pouch idea, may eliminate those fluffy raisins at the bottom of my bags.

I love your first bag. I would get that.

BrandyAlexander · 12/10/2013 11:23

You know what I am going to say don't you?Grin Balenciaga. I honestly love it so much. When I have travelled and I have had to carry laptop in there, it's strong enough to take it. I am actually thinking of getting it in black now. I have looked at the givenchy one too, but still Balenciaga for me. I also looked at MK but decided against it because they have suddenly become ubiquitous, like Coach in the US.

I agree with getting inserts for my bag. Makes a world of difference! Very exciting.

Ps love your psWink

Viviennemary · 12/10/2013 11:32

I think the Kors bag is far nicer than either of the two much more expensive ones. So I'd get the Kors bag and have a weekend away somewhere!

Cheesymonster · 12/10/2013 11:32

The givenchy is beautiful. Agree that two bags is a huge faff.

gordonpym · 12/10/2013 11:37

Givenchy!

Chipstick10 · 12/10/2013 13:19

I am at a loss with all things kors. I don't get it at all. Sorry. Balenciaga however, wow.love love love. Classic, classy, gorg.

Decameron · 12/10/2013 13:26

The Givenchy, Amber!

SundaySimmons · 12/10/2013 13:30

The Balenciaga.

What you must do if you are buying online is to submit my name and address for delivery!

wiltingfast · 12/10/2013 13:37

You can buy liners, I did for my sophia hulme bag which was unlined. I got mine from www.samorga.com and she made it to order. It's great and makes the bag so tidy and protects the lovely leather.

As for the bags, when you're spending that kind of dosh you need to buy the one you LOVE! Can you get a smaller laptop?!

alikat724 · 12/10/2013 13:47

The Kors is lovely, despite the more sebsible price tag. But the bale Balenciaga is just delish. I'd toss a coin between the two and let fate decide if you're supposed to be frugal or frivolous. :)

buttercrumble · 12/10/2013 13:51

The Balenciaga is devine, the givenchy is average and looks cheap Smile
