Handbag quandary - WWYD?

AmberNectarine · 12/10/2013 08:22

I have been saving my pennies for a bag for a while now. Initially I had intended to throw all my cash at one major 'investment' bag - probably this or this. Then I started complicating the issue, thinking it needed to be big enough to house my work laptop etc etc, which ruled out a lot of nice choices.

Then I spied this little lovely which would obviously house almost nothing. So then I thought maybe I should get that and one of these for carting my work/toddler crap.

And now I'm confused - WWYD?

NB. If the answer to this question is give all the money to charity and stop being so shallow, please don't waste your time Wink

Does the MK not have a fastening?

It looks supremely steal-from-able.

cardamomginger · 12/10/2013 23:14

Givenchy. LOVELY.

mirry2 · 12/10/2013 23:22

The Kors is really nice and practical as well as you can stash all your work folders in it and it looks good if you're just going out for the day. I've got one

gindrinker · 12/10/2013 23:34

My thoughts are
How much stuff do you need to carry for work? I need my laptop, A4 pad, assorted wires for laptop, pencil case, lunch.
I also walk a mile and a half each way to the station/from station to office (3 miles a day).

Do you need to look presentable for work? Do you have meetings with clients or mostly internal?

I use my work issue laptop rucksack for work and don't bother with a handbag at all.

If you drive to work and meet external people buy something lovely (Balenciaga).

If you're not fussed about having brand new, there are loads of pre-owned Balenciagia bags here

QueenCadbury · 13/10/2013 09:01

Get the givenchy and the MK Grin. I love them both!

StupidFlanders · 13/10/2013 09:02

I've come back to this thread because I can't get that givenchy out of my head. I'd also save for that "useless" Gucci because it's pretty wonderful too.

Please tell us what you decide.

QueenCadbury · 13/10/2013 09:03

Seriously though, if you use your white MK all th time then getting it in another colour would be useful.

But you've been saving for ages for a big purchase and may regret it if you don't buy it.

AmberNectarine · 13/10/2013 09:18

Good thinking with the knomo specialbrew, I'm quite taken with this.

Good to hear you're pleased with your Givenchy oldbag - it the leather quite tough or very soft? I give my bags a hard time and the Alexander Wang I bought at new year is looking quite battered, so I'm looking for something a bit less delicate.

Oh am on tender hooks as to what you re going to decide Smile !

Santamaria - sorry it s a Stella McCartney Blush oops ! Brain frazzled these days, - it s a purple leather tote ish bag, big - 2 internal divisions plenty of pockets, maybe 4-5 years old, but it s heavy and despite it fitting a4 documents and plenty of other bits it s just awkward. While I d love to dangle it off my forearm it just doesn't work on the rush to crèche drop off plus walk to train station etc. Not

ShreddedHoops · 13/10/2013 22:46

Gucci all the way.

I will be beyond jealous if you get it - earlier this year I decided to save for it - it meant not buying a single piece of clothing for a whole year. I obviously cracked ages ago so can't get it Sad

It's just gorgeous though, have you seen it in the flesh? I love small cross body bags with small children - a touch of utter luxury you can carry every day. It is quite soft fine leather though, would be my only concern, and it's far too lovely to be saved 'for best'!

The others - I like the Kors totes and have been considering one - I think their openness would annoy me though as stuff would fall out of it. But stylish, especially for summer. I love Bals and it would be a fab investment bag you'd probably not regret. But the Givenchy I don't feel the love for - I like the navy/silver combo but the shape looks cheap and dated to me I'm afraid, although I'm sure for that price it's beautifully made it just doesn't look classy or edgy at all, quite bland IMHO.

Enjoy choosing Smile

Givenchy .....love it.
Really like the Gucci too as an extra, but love the Giv

bigkidsdidit · 17/10/2013 21:05

I went into Michael Kors today and the grey jet set looks quite cheap IMO. The navy and burgundy were lovely though...
