Would this handbag be wasted on a SAHM?

I'm not normally a handbag fan but saw this in JL yesterday and love it.

Thing is, I spend most of my time between nursery, playgroups, soft play and the park.

I don't get out much without the DCs so wouldn't be worth "saving".

It would be unwise, wouldn't it.

You should get it, lots of pockets for tissues etc. you should have a nice bag. No reason why not!

Elfontheedge · 07/10/2013 20:58

Ooh it's lovely! No reason why you can't have a good bag when you're a SAHM. It actually looks quite practical Smile

QueenCadbury · 07/10/2013 20:58

I'm a sahm and love nice handbags and use them for the school run and toddler groups etc. I don't usually use a nice bag for the park as ours has a sandpit! It all depends on how comfortable you are leaving it lying around when at toddler groups etc. if you are then get it!

SunshinePanda · 07/10/2013 20:59

I bought this bag a couple of weeks ago in dusk from the Modula website at half price ( offer not on smoke though). I love it.Grin The size is good just depends on how much you are happy to spend. I agree if you get it you need too be happy to use it

Laska42 · 07/10/2013 20:59

if you can afford it I'd say buy it and use it all the time it wouldn't be wasted. It sounds like it would make you smile and make you feel good and thats important , being a SAHM doesnt mean you cant have nice things.. (from someone who used to think she didnt 'deserve' nice things)

elfycat · 07/10/2013 20:59

No. You are out and about as much as anyone else and it looks practical as well as beautiful.

ProtectiveMother · 07/10/2013 21:00

Think you should get it too!

ShoeWhore · 07/10/2013 21:17

Gorgeous bag. Get it!

pixiegumboot · 07/10/2013 22:54

no handbag purchase is ever wasted IMHO

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 07/10/2013 22:57

I'm a sahm and I have lots of great handbags, one very similar to that but not as expensive

Go for it if you can afford - or put on christmas list..

SpookyRestingFace · 08/10/2013 09:26

being a SAHM doesnt mean you cant have nice things

QFT!

Get it. It looks both practical and lovely. Will get better with age, too.

carrielou2007 · 08/10/2013 10:21

Do you have an outlet shop nearby? I was looking at some of these (sorry don't know which style) at outlet shop in Clarks village last week none were £225? I'd been to John Lewis on the previous Saturday to try on winter costs then went to Barbour outlet at Clarks village and bought two Smile. Maybe worth a phone call??

carrielou2007 · 08/10/2013 10:22

Coats!!

nethunsreject · 08/10/2013 10:23

Ooh, nice! Of course it wouldn't be wasted!! If it's within your budget then absolutely.

polyhymnia · 08/10/2013 10:43

Just to say, I did buy a Pippa a couple of years ago when they were 'in' and, for me, it was a mistake - sadly, I've hardly used it.

The main reason is the very shiny metal-ware which I think is too blingy and makes the bag look rather cheap in RL. I do realise, though, that that is a matter of personal taste and others are quite happy with it.

Secondly, it's a very structured bag - fine if I'd still been working in an office, but less versatile for casual occasions.

I don't know the details of your lifestyle, as I've never been a SAHM but - personally again - as a mature student, I do spend that sort of money on bags but for everyday always try to find something versatile, ie, stylish but works in more casual as well as more formal settings. I wouldn't take my Pippa, for example, for a walk in the park.

Don't really agree about no handbag purchase not being wasted, sadly - much as I love them.

My Pippa choice was wasted because I hadn't realised the metal wasn't to my taste till too late and also it didn't suit my lifestyle.

But if I were more enterprising I could Ebay it, then it wouldn't be wasted, I guess.

slug · 08/10/2013 11:33

Whoops, sorry, no it isn't. If it's any consolation I have stared in a longing manner at that bag myself.

polyhymnia · 08/10/2013 11:37

Looking at the picture it does look like the metal-ware on this is 'silver' not gold, so that would be a big improvement, I think - not so blingy, I'd imagine.

madammecholet · 08/10/2013 12:19

If i'm honest, I think that bag has had its day. I also don't like the handle metal loops, they look really cheap imo.

However, you were not asking whether I liked it, SO, if you like it and you want to save for it, then absolutely do it! Saving for a handbag is one of my favourite past times!Grin

thelittlemothersucker · 08/10/2013 12:31

Does it have a shoulder strap/are the straps big enough to go over your shoulder in a coat? With small children, I couldn't manage with a crook of the arm bag - not least because they wouldn't fit over the buggy handle.

polyhymnia · 08/10/2013 12:34

It's also quite heavy, btw. Straps don't sit well on my shoulder, but might on someone smaller/ slimmer I guess.

PinocchiosLeftNostril · 08/10/2013 12:35

It's beautiful. Go for it. I've been longing for a bag for ages that has a double compartment like that. One side to keep my paperwork/books/diary in. The other side for dd's wet wipes, my lip gloss, deodorant etc.

But £225 is far too much for me. One for a future Christmas list i think. Grin
