FlowersMI!

Talking of 80's films and theatre, we are going to see Dirty Dancing for our Christmas jollySmile

CointreauVersial · 22/10/2013 17:05

"Nobody puts Baby in the corner!" BTM, you'll have "The Time of Your Life" Wink

Anyway, crepeys, remember a few weeks back when I plucked up the courage to ask for a pay-rise?

8% ! Grin Grin

Ker-chingggg!

bigTillyMint · 22/10/2013 17:13

Flowersfor you too, CV!

hattymattie · 22/10/2013 17:39

Wow - congrat's CV. Just before Christmas too.

I made DD's Watch Dirty Dancing as part of their general culture and they loved it. I still snigger at the above quoted line.

QueenQueenie · 22/10/2013 17:40

Well done MI! Good work!
BTM, will you take a watermelon as a prop?
Way to go CV!

Feel dullard by contrast with all these triumphs. Feel like I'm plodding through this week, with all the usual stuff to do plus two teenagers on half term whom I have to organise / boss / manage by remote control... with a mobile phone and a firm tone of voice my only weapons. Fecking hard work. Dh gives this not a second thought... Am both enraged and slightly envious of his attitude.

bigTillyMint · 22/10/2013 17:46

I feel I'd better get the DC to watch the film before we go...

Yes, QQ, I feel your pain - DH does not give the DC a second thought whilst he is at work.

motherinferior · 22/10/2013 18:38

We are supposed to be sharing half term admin.

Yeah right.

Well played MI and CV for various professional triumphs. All most admirable, especially at Our Age.

I'm trying to update my CV. Hampered by the fact that I can't really remember what I did during my last job, and certainly can't make it sound impressive. It was, though. I was editing a consumer magazine. Why can't I make that sound good?

motherinferior · 22/10/2013 19:56

Sounds damn good to me, Herbs.

BTW I asked for extra money on this gig 'to cover commissioning costs' are you up for a badly paid feature? and got it.

OP posts:
Cremolafoam · 22/10/2013 21:45

Congrats cv and mi. Brilliant things youGrin
QQ half term is like slavery. Dd has a whole agenda organised which involves a lift every single night next week . ShockPoor dh is having to do it all as I still can't drive. He's simmering in the corner having to be ordered about by me as well as dds hectic social calendar.
If I was up and about he wouldn't know the first thing about any of dds plans. So he's getting a right dose of reality ATM .

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/10/2013 22:04

I took the DDs to see Dirty Dancing on Sunday. It was very good, but the actress who played Baby was very actressy. And the whole thing was lost on DD2 who, despite having seen the film, got very confused. And wasn't really paying attention anyway. I am taking DD1 and a friend to see The Ladykillers tomorrow night. You can have too much of musicals...

And yay re pay rise, CV!

Spookerella · 22/10/2013 22:05

CV, congratulations. And enjoy spending it Grin

Cool Halloween NN, Strops!

It wasn't all good on the professional front today. The computer virus that I somehow picked up spent the day slowly spreading through the whole network, and corrupted all our files. Lots of harassed phone conversations between directors and IT bods, and it looks like they will have to restore everything from Thursday's back-ups. I was quite glad to leave at 3pm. Blush

alto1 · 23/10/2013 00:28

Well done for work triumphs, MI and CV. I'm going the other way, having seriously shot myself in foot by accepting this secondment .

Am also in a rage with DM, who was horribly rude and inconsiderate this morning, then pretended to apologise only so that she could have another go. I can't relax in my own house - had to go out to get away from her. No good harbouring eviction fantasies either - got to grow a thicker skin Sad.

Dd in good form and we took her and a friend to Spamalot, which cheered me up a bit Grin

bigTillyMint · 23/10/2013 06:46

Well done on organising your 4-dayer, rubySmile

3 more days.....!

Blackduck · 23/10/2013 08:58

Wow CV congrats (next round is on you ;) ) and MI on the work....

I haven't heard anything here about a. job outside the org, b. job inside the org. A colleague has also suggested I make a play for my boss's job - hmm.... will give it some thought.
Half term - my folks, the in-laws, back home. That's done. It's the week after I am dreading when dp buggers off to the States leaving me with dog, child, school and work...... hmm....

motherinferior · 23/10/2013 09:10

Crepeys, it is my ex-boyfriend's birthday...

...the problem is, I can't remember which ex-boyfriend. The one whose heart I broke, who will be 50 today, or the one who broke my heart and will be slightly ahem older? I feel if it is Chap Number 1 I should send at least an email (he is v happy with current partner)....

OP posts:
alto1 · 23/10/2013 09:47

Why not send an e-mail that covers the possibilities?

'If it is your birthday, many happy returns, if I'm confusing you with one of my other exes, not to worry, it happens all the time'.

(Got out of bed on wrong side)

motherinferior · 23/10/2013 09:53

I might just leave it Grin - hell, thinking about it, neither of them sent me a birthday card, dammit.

OP posts:
Spookerella · 23/10/2013 10:03

alto Grin - that really did make me LOL. I am mighty glad that I do not have a clue where any of my exes are. Grin (Well, aside from the significant one that is 6 foot under, obvs)

Sorry to hear that your work and domestic travails continue, alto. Is there no light visible at the end of the tunnel on the work front, i.e. an escape from the secondment?

CV, just as well you applied for that pay rise before the virus incident. Grin

bigTillyMint · 23/10/2013 10:23

AltoGrin
My significant ex turned 50 3 years ago - we are not in contact but as my Goddaughters birthday is the same day as his, I usually remember him. With relief!

addle · 23/10/2013 11:54

Am a bit low having just had prospect of at least 3 months' solid work snatched away at last minute with some vague talk of needing to 'reconsider the brand' ... would have been nice to have that stability but hey-ho ...

and the son of my sig. ex. is at univ. with my daughter so shall keep a beady eye out for goings-on

motherinferior · 23/10/2013 12:11

Oh, addle, that is totally pants. Been there. And frankly am not holding my breath with this gig as have seen too many things go tits-up on me in the past decade...

OP posts:
addle · 23/10/2013 12:22

Thanks MI. Makes you v aware of hum of anxiety in background of freelance life (for me anyway). fingers crossed for yours
