Wearing makeup every day

Just been looking at a trashy website Blush of pictures of celebs without makeup and there is no denying in my mind that most people, me included, look better with makeup on.

When I have made the effort everyone always says "you look nice" or "you look well" and that is because I don't have naturally smooth skin, or dark eyebrows/lashes, and makeup suits me. I am just lazy.

So, those of you who do it every day, how long do you think it should take to apply bb cream mixed with a bit of foundation, concealer, pencil eye liner, one colour of eyeshadow and mascara? I don't really do blusher and lips will be just a touch of gloss as lipstick doesn't really suit me.

What should I do with my eyebrows? They are quite a nice shape and fairly dark - I can't stand the new HD eyebrows ... I don't want to do the school run looking like Katie Price!

Haha at Louise Redknapp's eyelids. What's wrong with them then?

Ok, am in awe! I have so little confidence in my ability to put makeup on it takes half an hour and even then I end up rubbing some of it off as soon as I get downstairs!!
Quick question then, for those who do put eyeshadow on. Are Clinique chubby sticks or antioxidant crème shadows in tube worth a go? I just fancy something to even out the colour on my eyelids but don't want to have to faff about with powders really.

ellesabe · 18/09/2013 16:12

5 mins here.

Moisturiser, bb cream, single eyeshadow, eyeliner on lower lid, mascara, lippy.

I pluck my eyelashes weekly...ish.

If I'm going out I will add more eyeshadow and liquid eyeliner to my upper lid.

VeeAndTea · 18/09/2013 16:13

It takes me about 3 mins to do the basic concealer, BB cream, blusher and lipgloss. I need concealer thanks to vvv dark eye circles and need blusher because I have pale one-tone skin.

OhTheDrama · 18/09/2013 16:18

5 minutes at the most! I use bb cream, concealer, bronzer, blusher, mascara, sheer lipstick. My job means I deal with lots of people everyday and just don't feel very confident without make-up on. I don't wear that much but definitely feel better for it. I have really dark brows so just rub a tiny amount of vaseline over them to tame them, never define them with a pencil or powder as I look too severe.

OhTheDrama · 18/09/2013 16:21

Meant to say when I'm going out I use foundation and powder instead of bb cream and add eyeshadow, eyeliner and a stronger lip colour. Takes me 10 to 15 min for my going out face.

flossy101 · 18/09/2013 16:29

For work I do - primer, concealer, benetint, powder, eye brows, mascara, gloss takes 5 mins.

At weekends/going out I add foundation, eye shadow and eye liner this adds an extra 10-15mins.

MmmmWhiteWine · 18/09/2013 17:45

valiumredhead, B&B is great - so quick and almost foolproof. Not the heaviest coverage but I don't like that anyway. I always buy Regular which I think would suit most people apart for the exceedingly fair or those with olive skin. It also lasts for absolutley ages so is pretty good value.

Lazysuzanne · 18/09/2013 17:56

I tend to put quite alot of sunscreen on my face first leave it to soak in and then put bb cream or foundation over the top. Mascara, touch of eyeliner maybe lipstick, takes about 5 mins..

Luckily I like the alabaster look because the sunscreen doesnt half make you look white :o

valiumredhead · 18/09/2013 18:39

Mmmm-ok thanks, will give it a goSmile

goodasitgets · 18/09/2013 18:59

Maybe 15 mins for me
Moisturise
Foundation (UD naked liquid) applied with stippling brush, concealer, powder, Nars orgasm blush
UD eye potion primer, 2 MAC eyeshadows, gel flicked liner, mascara
Eyebrow pencil and gel

Lucylloyd13 · 18/09/2013 19:09

As we get older the advantages of a little help become greater.

Yes I wear make up every day.

Specialbrew · 18/09/2013 19:45

41 here. I just feel a little more 'polished' wearing makeup now. It takes 5 mins:

Moisturiser
Eye cream
BB cream
under eye concealer
Cream blush
Sheer lipstick
Two nude eye shadows

I don't agree with the person who said they thought lipstick was for the young. I look half dead without lipstick, although I tend to wear less dramatic shades than when I was in my 20's and 30's

Eyebrows, I get mine threaded every few weeks, which gives a good shape if you find someone good.

Bronx · 18/09/2013 19:53

5 mins for me too:
Moisturiser/serum (never both, takes too long for it to sink in ime)
foundation, bronzer, powder, all with the same big brush
mascara and eyeliner on waterline to hide the redness
Lipbalm or a lipgloss, I find lipstick takes too long to make it last - lip liner, blot, lipstick, powder, lipstick again, and reapply an hour later! Too much hassle for my zombie like state in a morning.
When running late I can even do my face in the car Blush
Eyes are too fiddly though :o

missbopeep · 18/09/2013 20:22

I'd not even cross the doorstep without make up. I'm very fair skinned with purple under eye circles.
It takes me 20 mins

Moisturiser
Sun block spf 45
foundation
concealer
mascara- 3 coats - have rubbish lashes
eye pencil
one shade eye shadow
blusher
lippie

Yama · 18/09/2013 20:27

Putting make up on keeps me away from the chaos of children having breakfast and getting dressed. Wink

Dh brings me a lovely cup of tea while I get ready in the morning. It is one of my very few zen moments.

DipMeInChocolate · 18/09/2013 20:44

The trick to making it quick for me was having it all laid out ready. I used to have a bag which took ages just to find what I need. I use an ikea tray thing with everything in.

Ifancyashandy · 18/09/2013 20:48

Serum then Moisturiser. Allow to absorb for 10 mins. I usually put body lotion on during this time.

Then primer, foundation, under eye brightener, cream blusher, bronzer (tiny amount), eye lid colour corrector / shadow primer, concealer and a tiny bit of powder blusher to 'hold' the cream one. Loose powder brushed through t-zone. Eyebrow powder. Highlighter in there also (cream or powder).

Then mascara and eyeliner if I've not got eyelash extensions. Neither needed if the extensions are in place.

Takes about 30 mins from putting the moisturiser on. 25 if not putting me eyes on. But I faff / drink coffee / MN at the same time. It's a lovely time of the day.

Mintyy · 18/09/2013 21:11

Well, I got out of the shower at 9 this morning and was ready to leave at 10! I really am going to have to speed up this whole process Smile. But I did have makeup on.

I have always, always left a decent interval between moisturiser and makeup. It needs to soak in to the skin.

I wear make up whenever I leave the house now. I am 38 and I ont feel that I can get away without it. It takes me about 5-7 minutes (I know this as I am usually rushing with n eye on the clock) and I wear YSL touche eclat foundation which goes on like a dream, eyeshadow in two shades, mascara, a bit of bronze, blusher and lip loss. All very natural colours, and I just look healthy.

SarahGoodwin33 · 18/09/2013 21:40

For work its a 10min affair. Moisturiser, eye cream, tinted moisturiser, Matt brown eyeshadow with highlight base, liner on lid and gods great creation mascara. Lipgloss..Done!
Make up for Night out is about 20-30mins, basically as above but foundation for bit more of made up look and more enhanced eyes etc. same as most women probably!
Would never ever leave house with at very least mascara
