A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.

Hi all - so M&S was quite impressive! Confused
The store is one of their massive ones and has been relaid out. They had a mini fashion show and were handing out fizz to people as they shopped!
There are some nice bits but a hell of a lot that is absolutely minging too! this sparkly panda jumper immediately springs to mind as beyond horrible.
a bit late to the animals on knits party?
The pic does not do it justice but DM and I bought me this coat to scratch the Ganni itch. It looks much better IRL and within 1 minute of putting it on I'd had 5 or 6 people telling me how good it looked (unless they were all M&S secret shoppers?).
MrsR was this one of the ones you were considering? I hope you don't mind if so.........
It is not my Autumn colours but it does look fab and will work with my Vince sweater and skinnies.
I'm going to try it again tonight to see how much it goes with in my wardrobe. I got £10 off with a voucher and considering checks will only be around for a short while on this scale I think it makes sense......?

one my family used to expect people to bring things back from holidays, days trips etc - I think it's a slightly old fashioned custom from the days when people didn't travel very much and the person who was lucky enough to get away was expected to ensure that everyone else got a sense of the experience. I would just laugh at your sister and treat it like a big joke and bring her a pack of sweets from the train or a 'I love London' fridge magnet!

Novice thanks! My DSis is adorable! She got her junior cert results yesterday (Irish equivalent of GCSE's) so I am thinking about what to get her as a reward for doing well.

Dec I probably would shop more online if I was at home more! The other issue is that DH is at home all day and moans so much about my shopping that it often feels that no discount is worth it - I need to cultivate a attitude more like Grumpy's!

I cannot bear GP either - utterly tiresome with all her smug perfection Grin

Great coat Shop I tried on a plain black biker coat in M&S the other day and liked it a lot. On my long list of 'maybe's' if I can't find coat perfection!

The US arm of the financial services company that I worked for had two floors of offices in the TT, it was a terrible day.

One - Perhaps you could get your sister a really tiny present (just a trinket or chocolate etc) and watch her face when she gets it? Does she know that she makes you feel guilty? If you tell her, she might change her mind? I had DC at 28! Smile

I am wearing the blue animal print dress and wedge boots from M&S as below, I have had 3 comments about how nice I look today, the photos do not do them justice. M&S is so infuriating I find shop, we live close to a huge one, so much awful stuff, then you find some really lovely things too. Their financial arm is excellent though, bank with them now and the service they provide is second to none when I do need to contact them (mainly do stuff online)

I am an internet shopper I confess. Working and doing pony stuff at the weekend, plus a DH working insane hours means I don't have the time not to. Plus, I try to go for free delivery and returns, but if not, the P&P is usually less than the petrol and parking. In fairness, I have returned a lot of stuff recently, but hey ho Smile, there has been a few lovely items too.

Ha - the only thing we bring back wherever we go without fail is a fridge magnet for DMIL, must be a trend Smile

Liberty great news about your DS's results. She must be relieved.

Shop mY WORD, M&S are so late to that party they've met the trend coming back. I suppose with that 'philosophy' every twenty years they'll accidentally be on trend. I hate the new ad campaign. Hate it. Tracey Emin of all people?

Like the checked coat- It'll give a lift when all is grey and winter dour.

I love fridge magnets and collect them. Our fridge is completely hidden by them and other superglued on stuff. It is a 3D fridge like a Gaudi grotto. I have magnets from all kinds of obscure places including Parkhurst Prison (made by a former patient of mine doing time there), a Peruvian ragdoll, Texan brass Armadillo, some Amish Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs, Wisconsin dairy cows.....Love them. i'd be thrilled with a fridge magnet more than anything.

It's the website photography though Mig the styling is awful. The coat shouldn't be done up all the way like that - it has a cocoon-like shape and is fluid.
The thing with the Ganni coat is it's a lot of money to spend on a short lived trend. This is a cheaper alternative. Am still contemplating the peacoat though if I'm honest.
It was really hard to find the good stuff amongst the bad. What they had got spot on though was the way they categorise their clothes now, the shop floor layout and the amazingly helpful staff who couldn't do enough for my ageing DM.
Off upstairs to EBAY my UGG boots that I never wore last winter and the Reiss knits......

I love fridge magnets too. I often buy them when we visit somewhere! I have to put them high up on the fridge so the dc can't pinch them!

mig I don't like the m&s ad either. It just seems a bit odd with all these random woman smiling falsely at the camera or looking into the distance and Tracy emin just looks bemused by the whole thing. It certainly hasn't made me think 'I must shop there'.

Well done to Liberty's dsis.

Fab coat Shop.

So to scratch the itch I've just ordered the See by Chloe peacoat. I need to look at it in the flesh.....
Will then take one of the coats back. But at £60 more than an M&S coat it seemed silly not to take a closer look?
Whatever happens DO NOT let me keep both please ladies.......

Will do Shop.

I've been googling about dyeing a dark green peacoat I got last year.
It's 70% wool, 10% cashmere, 20% nylon.
I'd like to dye it dark grey...

So many gorgeous links to catch up on!

Hope the peacoat is lovely shop, but also hope you can choose....

I am definitely far more of an internet shopper than a pound-the-pavements shopper. Probably because I've lived in some godawful remote places throughout my adult life when the only time I got to buy new stuff was when I went to London or the US. Now the world is my oyster Grin and I can actually be lying in the bath, suddenly think of something I'd wanted to check out and have bought it via my phone a couple of minutes later. Dangerous, perhaps, but strangely satisfying. I try not to get too carried away though.

novice your 9/11 experience sounds terrifying. I remember being in California a couple of weeks after and talking to a woman from NY who was escaping the devastation and the smell for a few days. Her story was alot like yours - she had watched the WTC fall from her office window and was too paralysed by fear to go anywhere else. I could not begin to imagine that feeling, despite having lived in London during the 70s and the regular bomb scares.

Don't know why, but have a bit of a hankering after a waistcoat. Wouldn't style it like this - a bit Sound of Music - but think styled in the right way...

While we're talking M&S, this is my DSis' favourite piece from her collection this year - she said the silk is way above standard quality. And these are the PJs she sent me. I do love a freebie - such a shame she's on mat leave now!

I've very late answering about my sister, I have been a bit ill the last few days and woke up at 2.30 this afternoon! I know she's cheeky, I just feel guilty when I don't give in, it's the same with my other sister as well. I feel almost like now that Mum's gone, they expect me to fill the parental role and it's a lot of pressure

Glad DS is ok foxy

santa I know, there's just some strange dynamics within my family! I was planning to bring them things anyway, I always do so perhaps that's where the expectation has come from? Not that I go anywhere special very often, I had agoraphobia for a few years which took a lot of therapy to kill off so now everyone makes a big deal when I go somewhere out of the ordinary

One of my sisters actually just messaged me about the london trip and asked me if I'd bring her some make up back if she gives me the money, I think that's a more appropriate ask than her first one don't you? Grin

I don't mind that request, there's certain brands and things we just can't get in town as there's no counter and the closest place to get them is an hour away by train as neither of us drive

I am also much more of an internet shopper. Partly as like Grumpy I love the access to many more brands than you can find on the average high street. Also, now with 2 dc I don't really get out to the shops much. I used to prefer scouring vintage fairs / charity shops when I did go shopping IRL though.

I do send so much stuff back though, and it can get tedious. Am now trying to limit shopping to places that offer free postage and returns - though of course there is a cost involved in actually going to the high street.

Ebay is particularly bad for me and I am trying not to buy anything from there unless I have tried it irl or they offer returns.

Shop that is the coat I was interested in - good to hear it is nice. And no issues with you owning it Grin. That is one I would have wanted to see irl rather than just taking a punt online. It looks like a good alternative to the Ganni. The Ganni has been featured everywhere I find.

Need that is a cute dress. What are the black boots from M&S on your pin like? I like the look of them but are they quite high?

I recently dyed a lot of stuff following my hoc colour session. I think dylon dyes are great, never had any problems with the ones you use in the washing machine (not so keen on handwash ones). Haven't dyed a coat though, hope it goes well Anni

Novice I also just culled a ton of stuff from my wardrobe but it has all gone to charity shops now. I would have rather given it to you, as I had reason to go into the back room in one of our local charity shops and there were loads and loads of huge bags filled with clothes. I asked what was happening to them and they are apparently sold for a minimal amount of money - rags / recycling - rather than being sold directly in the shop.

I like waistcoats too. In fact Shop do you have a link to the Toast one?

mrsr you were looking for baggy coated jeans? I found theseCE,

Sleep did you find any jeans you like? I went for a look yesterday and I'm loving the edgmont by Paige also love frame denim , le garçon.

one sorry if I sounded mean it's just that I don't see what they are doing is acceptable Smile
