Shower proofing cotton jacket?

I really love a lightweight cotton jacket I've seen in Topshop, but is it possible to make it somewhat shower resistant by using a scotchguard (or similar) type spray?

You want TX Direct spray, from outdoorsy shops. Don' t get a wash- in one, or you will waterproof the inside.
