I did it!

motherinferior · 01/10/2013 12:01

Ooh, good that you're home!

School has now sent email saying what's my number and the deputy ed will ring me. I don't want him to ring me also suppose he is fierce? I just want the info. Suggested they just whizz over an email. It is presumably not difficult information is it? IS IT?????

motherinferior · 01/10/2013 12:06

Update: now the head has emailed me Grin

wilbur · 01/10/2013 12:54

MI - Grin at your one woman Freedom of Information crusade. Hope you get somewhere now.

Crem - glad you're home, enjoy the daytime tv and the shrinking stomach - now I'm wondering if I have a fibroid in my thighs, is that why they are larger than I would like? Grin

CV - Prague sounds lovely, I would love to go. I wonder if there's a time of year when the crowds are smaller?

On the domestic front, I had my first hot shower in 5 days last night (gas leak repaired with a temporary fix, meter now being rescheduled for change), which was bliss. And someone actually said they have worked out a way to replace our windows and may even actually send me a quote. I'm not holding my breath, but it's a big step forward from the other firms who have come, looked, and then disappeared off the face of the planet.

MrsS - did you go to Arturo Ui? What did you think?

motherinferior · 01/10/2013 13:17

HA! the head rang me.

He was actually very nice Grin

bigTillyMint · 01/10/2013 14:18

Well done MI!

Glad to hear you are getting better and your tummy is shrinking, Cremo.

My DM goes on lots of coach trips/hols with her similarly aged friends. Last night she told me that she was going to go over to help the old lady over the road get ready and on the coach trip todayGrin

Wilbur, we haven't had a proper working shower for nearly 3 weeks now. Our plumber came last night and diagnosed a knackered pump. But he cannot fix it till next week.

Just spent an hour in the park with my little lovelies - they left with pockets bulging with conkersSmile

hattymattie · 01/10/2013 14:29

Our shower leaks, DH does the joints then a few weeks later it leaks again - never ending circle. One day I'm gonna pay to get it all redone by a pro'.

Had a neighbour who queried how well the roof was done. DH said it was fine, so we argued - I think I should have not gone for it when he was exhausted after work. Builder agreed to change things but seemed upset. Different neighbour has said they've done a great job and it looks fine so now I've upset DH and the builder maybe for nothing.

BTM - In France nobody picks up conkers they just lie all over the pavement.

hattymattie · 01/10/2013 14:30

Sorry - so absorbe in my roofing issues I forgot to say Crem I'm so glad you're feeling better and out of hospital.

Stropperella · 01/10/2013 15:09

Hey, Crem, glad to hear things are going well and you have some nice embroidery Grin

Ahh, conkers, I like conkers. They always cheer me up. But BTM, won't your little charges just use them as missiles on the way home? Grin

Hatty, much sympathy about domestic discord caused by arguments about house repairs. Those kinds of arguments are somewhat frequent in our house, as dh likes to sit about and wait for me to organise someone to fix something and then tell me afterwards he could have got someone to do it better/cheaper/more stylishly. Which he probably could have, but the point is - he didn't. etc etc etc.

Happy showering, wilbur!

S&B news - I have had a reasonably priced haircut (£26). I think it looks a lot better (well, let's face it, it couldn't have looked a lot worse) - less frizz, more shape - but I just made the mistake of asking dh his opinion. He screwed up his face and stared at me and then said "But it still sticks out too much here and here", pointing vaguely at the sides of my head. I have decided to ignore him.

motherinferior · 01/10/2013 15:24

I ignore house repairs in the cheapskate hope the damage will go away, till DP takes the Stropps role chez nous Blush

I find it best not to ask male opinions on one's clothes/hair/personal grooming.

bigTillyMint · 01/10/2013 15:38

Stropps, last years might have but the ones I have now were so keen to collect them and not lose any! They kept calling them acorns and were so thrilled with themSmile

The downside is that I now feel knackered and have to do circuit training in an hour!

bigTillyMint · 01/10/2013 15:39

And what does he know, Stropps?Smile

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/10/2013 16:45

Wilbur, yes, Arturo Ui was great - the best £10 I've ever spent! DH stayed awake throughout, and the actor who played Arturo was excellent.

Crem - glad you're on the mend! Purple stitches, how faaabulous. Can you introduce your surgeon to the MN Style and Beauty thread?

MI - so what were the results like???

motherinferior · 01/10/2013 17:39

Dreadful, obviously Grin He was v straightforward about that.

Oh god must get DD2 from brass band. SHe gets terribly worried I'll forget her....

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/10/2013 17:51

Why does she worry that you'll forget her, MI, you're not Mr Schadenfreude... (For the rest of you, MI has direct experience of this.)

Blackduck · 01/10/2013 18:31

Hi all - just touching base.

Happy recovery Cremo!

Stropperella · 01/10/2013 21:20

Hi BD! How is your mum doing?

Stropperella · 01/10/2013 21:23

Mr Stropps is so good at forgetting to pick up ds that I had a word with the school office to the effect that if no one has appeared to pick up ds by 10 mins after pick-up time, that means that I'm working away and dh is on duty and has forgotten, so please could they ring him. Luckily, they are fine with this arrangement. Hmm

Blackduck · 02/10/2013 06:02

Hi Stropps - mum good thanks. Mr BD is pretty good at remembering pickups/drop offs - maybe a result of being primary carer for the first five years?

bigTillyMint · 02/10/2013 06:43

BD, glad to hear your mum is doing well.

MrTillyMint must have done about 3 pick-ups from primary school, but does loads of club ones - mainly DS from footy, which he would never forget as he doesn't want to miss out on what's happening there! Also DD would go bananas if we were ever lateHmm

lalsy · 02/10/2013 07:57

I tied my hair up at the weekend. My dh peered at me and said, "What have you done to your hair", and was astonished when I pulled the band out, such technology not being, apparently, on his radar.

bigTillyMint · 02/10/2013 07:59

lalsyGrin

LCHammer · 02/10/2013 09:21

Prague for me was a visit with DH per-DC. I loved it and Cesky Krmlov too. We keep meaning to go back but haven't managed to.

Speedy recovery, Crem. I was off work for two months over the summer and i haven't watched any daytime TV. Maybe you have better luck.

beachyhead · 02/10/2013 09:35

Oh well done Crem, a pineapple extraction and purple stitches....living the dream!

I agree, never ask a man his opinion on hair or clothes... it always disappoints.
I came home last night to find the cleaning OCD fairy, pertaining to be my husband, had kicked in.... it's lovely and shiny here, but it's not sustainable and I'm going to spend all day tidying up after myself so he's not disappointed tonight. (Or do I just blow it all today, on the basis if I keep the house manically tidy today, he'll expect it every day Grin)

Might just sit still at my desk all day and try not to breathe....

LCHammer · 02/10/2013 10:26

I bought a few things online and paraded them in front of DH last evening. He asked me if the Ralph Lauren jacket was a pyjama top! Granted, I was wearing pyjama bottoms at the time so he may have got confused. It wad also tartany as it seems is tge fashion. Then he said he was glad he didn't like it as it shows what crap it all is when you don't know the label. I agree with him on that but it was reduced to within my price range. So yeah, sometimes best not to ask.

LCHammer · 02/10/2013 10:27

Needless to say, they're all going back. I'm not wearing overpriced pyjamas.
