Thanks for the advice re the coat, everyone. Now I am wondering if I should leave it long, as I don't actually have a long coat. To be worn in the style of Caroline Issa

Decameron · 04/09/2013 10:18

Lovely coats, MrsR.

Shoes: I am going to get chestnut pistols and silver Ash virgins as my black Ash are wrecked. I wear R&B rockafellas or black pistols a lot in winter and still like ballet flats so will wear those until it gets cold.

santamarianovella · 04/09/2013 10:19

sleep im sure your hair looks amazing, dont get highlights, wait for the color to settle, did you get an ombre? i had a subtle one like the pic of lily you pinned,my mom's reaction was Shock, and i got all panicky ,dh didnt even notice it till i pointed out. it looks good now and often get asked about the colorist,if i can work the image thing out would post a pic of it Angry

i love capes, have a bottle green paul and joe one,

novice your outfit sounds great,

mcnally thats a stunning dress! nothing childish about it.

MrsRadicchio · 04/09/2013 10:24

Really like the shearling gilet Sleep and wearing over leather jacket.

BrandyAlexander · 04/09/2013 10:28

If I was tall enough, I would wear a cape Mrs R. I love the long coat, however, you have just reminded me that I bought a coat by Jaeger last year that I never wore because it was too long. I need to get it shortened. considerably. I look like an hobo in it at the moment!

Sadly, I don't think I will be able to get out to the village for a while. I am doing so much travelling these next 4 months that no way i could leave the dcs even for a weekend. And it's in the country side so a pain to get to, plus dh doesn't want a christmas break this year, so it's an all round "no".

Thanks Decam, hope your last holiday day is a good one!

OneLittleLady · 04/09/2013 10:51

I think I left my hair dye on a little too long last night, my hair is now a very very dark purple. Luckily, it's only a semi so no harm done and I finally got the purple hair I wanted a while back Grin

All those with DCs starting school/nursery for the first time this week, good luck. It gets easier to leave them as the days go on, all of them will be fine, just remember to show much gratitude for the collages and glitter pictures that are about to come your way Grin

foxysocks · 04/09/2013 10:59

i really want a faux fur shearling for wearing over leather jacket. not seen the right one yet.

am totes gutted re: westwood skirt. it's divine but it sits slightly too high for me and I can't find it anywhere in a 10. [cry]

I have helped lurkers by DM before and not even received a thank you anni. massively off putting for posting here at all tbh.

thanks for course congrats, it starts in Jan Smile

OneLittleLady · 04/09/2013 11:10

shame about the skirt foxy it might come up in a bigger size at a later time maybe?

shopafrolic · 04/09/2013 11:35

Grin Marsha

What is DM Foxy? Congrats on course btw

foxysocks · 04/09/2013 14:01

Direct mail MrsR.

QueenCadbury · 04/09/2013 14:29

Phew, busy day. Getting back to school was fine but went straight to toddler group after and had been so worked up remembering everything for school that I totally forgot her nappies!

Just been trying to catch up in admin whilst dd asleep-all the bills and emails that I've ignored over the summer!

foxy shame about the skirt

mig you ok?? You haven't posted for a while although I know you're pinning...

novice great news about the mortgage.

sleep agree with others that maybe give yourself (and dh) a chance to get used to the hair. Unless of course that you know that you completely hate it then change it now!

Following mrR advice I'm wearing bright red lips to do my admin stuff! Will I be brave enough to leave them on for the school run though...?

Umlauf · 04/09/2013 15:56

mcnally the dress is soooo beautiful! Especially the sleeves, keep it!!

I like the second coat mrsR but prefer longer ones in general, they are kinder I think. I have a wool cashmere camel dressing gown style one from last year that is mid-calf length though and never wear it because I'm so worried about it getting splashed with muddy rainwater, but I can't decide whether to have it dyed a darker colour or taken up. My fur collar coat still hasn't arrived despite being despatched over a week ago, and I keep waiting in for the postman! Grrr.

sleep if you are blonde underneath the colour will almost certainly soften. I'm sure it looks lovely and it's a case of getting used to it!

queenC I love the red lips look but am too shy to pull it off in day, so I'm rooting for you!

OneLittleLady · 04/09/2013 16:49

I get to live out my grunge dreams next Friday as I'm going to see one the big Seattle four, Soundgarden in Manchester Grin

I might even make my own vest to wear Grin Grin

needastrongone · 04/09/2013 17:06

I like red lips too, but my lips are quite thin anyway, and I don't think they are my best feature so tend to go big on the eyes and pale on the lips. Well I did, having DC meant embracing a more minimal look.

Hope you guys with younger children enjoyed some free time today, and a little peace and quiet. I was fine when DS started school as he is one of the oldest in the year and ready for the challenge, DD was quite the opposite and I hated leaving this little tot (she was a tiny, petite little thing) at school. Luckily, the size of her mouth more than made up for the lack of age and stature Smile

New Look - not been in for years until recently, as DD is a pre-teen and at that funny age where adult clothes don't quite fit yet, even in a small size, or they are not quite appropriate for her age but she finds girls clothes too young in terms of style. She quite likes the odd thing there but the quality is generally poor and some of the clothes, well, they are just too 'sexy' for her I feel (think crop tops and micro skirts, slogans like 'babe' 'hot chick' etc), Luckily, so does she, she's more 'skater chick'! Can't comment on the quality of the adult clothes though tbh.

This arrived today from the Boden Ebay shop. Usually dislike Boden as the fit is awful on me and it's not really my style anyway but I quite like this for £30 as I think it will be versatile if I accessorise correctly. It also comes up very small, which is good as I am a size 6, which precludes a lot of stuff, should I wish to purchase anyway Smile

Dress

MarshaBrady · 04/09/2013 18:32

Foxy bah on the skirt.

Mig are you ok?

Need really like that dress.

I need to get a hair cut, I loathe it when I realise it's time and it suddenly feels too long and not neat enough. Then I have the same crisis every time on how much to spend. Aveda creative director or senior stylist. Etc. Too many options, whatever I do I'll feel like it's loads!

Sleep which one do you usually go to? (If you're ok to say)

OneLittleLady · 04/09/2013 19:22

Are DM's to cliche to wear to see a grunge band? Hmm

AmberNectarine · 04/09/2013 19:32

Marsha my guy is second from bottom in the pecking order and it's still £62. Bearing in mind I have the simpler it ever - blunt bob, no layers! He does it well though, and I like the whole experience too much to go cheap!

BrandyAlexander · 04/09/2013 19:57

Evening all. My baby survived day one of school!Grin its such a short day compared to nursery isn't it? Now feel massively tired after last nights total lack of sleep. Blush I am hoping to get a 6/8 km run in before the school run else I going to lard on weight after 3 days working from home!

I had such a great conversation with the headmaster of the village school. It's all very exciting for next week. I am also sponsoring an older child who was bright but dropped out of secondary school because the family couldn't afford the fees. I chickened out of telling him that I wanted the sponsorship package to include sanitary towelsBlush

Mig, I have also been wondering whether you're okay.

OneLittleLady · 04/09/2013 19:58

All sounds very exciting novice it's very humbling to know that someone could put in so much hard work for the benefit of others. I wish you every success Smile

BrandyAlexander · 04/09/2013 20:16

Aww thanks One. It's something I am v passionate about and if I wasn't doing my day job this would be my next thing. I am v fortunate so nice to be able to give back. I am learning a lot too. normally i call the shots at work but learning to work collaboratively with a different type of person has been a real eye opener for me. Only a handful of people know about it in rl so you're all v generous letting me occasionally ramble on about it on here. Plus I have had some lovely support via pms especially when I am frustratedGrin.

OneLittleLady · 04/09/2013 20:23

Giving back is always to be applauded novice no matter what scale it's on. If more people thought about giving back instead of taking whatever they can, the world would be a far nicer place. I live in hope that more people will learn that

QueenCadbury · 04/09/2013 20:31

Evening.
marsha I pay £55 for a cut and blow dry with the top stylist at essentials. I may only have a bob but I'm very particular in how it is cut (no layers=hangs there limply, too many layers=looks crap) and so I would pay anything for someone I'm happy with. I've always made it clear to dh that I'll compromise on some things but not my hair Grin.

Whoever asked about capes, I personally wouldn't. Tbh I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone wearing one.

umlauf I blotted the red lipstick to within an inch of its life so it was more of a stain. I need to get braver. Trouble is no-one round here really wears bright lippy so I'm scared of standing out for the wrong reasons. Today at toddler group I was mildly depressed at all the tunics, comfy shoes and cath kidston bags. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that but sometimes I wish someone would push the boundaries a but more and be a bit more high fashion. Or am I just terribly shallow Grin.

So my question tonight is, what is the standard clothing of mums at your school gates/toddler groups etc...

OneLittleLady · 04/09/2013 20:35

There's a massive gap between the women I used to see at the school gates. Half of them looked like they'd been up since five am primping and preening with their perfectly applied make up, hair perfectly done, long painted nails, fake tans and perfectly accessorised outfits. Then the other half were a combination of pj bottoms, too short jeans with the much maligned 'mum boots', socks and flip flops/slippers and massive parka coats over the above mentioned. I was neither, I sat somewhere in the middle I think

shopafrolic · 04/09/2013 20:42

Sitting in a restaurant waiting for a girlfriend to arrive for a long overdue catch up. V casual in grey J Crew tee, Current Elliot skinnies, YSL arty ring, Missoni flats and bright orange lipstick!
Not going to say what I pay for my cut and colour Blush
