What won't you skimp on?

Stylistically and value for money etc what won't you skimp on or economise on even if it means you can only buy one rather than lots of the cheaper equivalent?

Opaque tights. Would rather have one pair of M&S Autograph ones than 6 pairs of cheaper ones.

I won't buy non-leather boots or shoes (unless they are supposed to be fabric ones!) ie: I won't buy plastic masquerading as leather.

bunnymother · 29/08/2013 20:22

Exactly as Remus on the veto on vinyl. Nastiness.

Mumelie · 29/08/2013 20:25

bras
totally agree with shoes/boots
hairdressers

AnythingNotEverything · 29/08/2013 20:28

Bras, tights, foundation - since I moved to YSL I've never looked so well.

Suburban · 29/08/2013 20:36

Shoes and coats. Also I don't really like synthetic knitwear but I still get it cheaply from Sainsburys, Gap and TKMaxx.

FayeKorgasm · 29/08/2013 20:37

Moisturiser. I will only use elemis marine cream.

Only leather shoes bags and boots.

chanie44 · 29/08/2013 21:56

I think it has to be leather shoes and bags. I'm happy with fabric material equivalents but the fake leather falls apart quickest. I bought a fake leather bag from tk maxx and started to come apart at the seems as soon as I got it, although I diShockdn't keep the receipt to take it back.

bunnymother · 29/08/2013 21:56

Also, hairdresser and perfume.

gaggiagirl · 29/08/2013 22:00

Must have leather shoes boots and bags.

Must have a quality bra.

I must have bloody expensive perfume.

MarshaBrady · 29/08/2013 22:00

Has to be wool/ cashmere rather than acrylic.

Shoes (although need some new ones).

SinisterSal · 29/08/2013 22:03

i'm nearly embarrassed to ask but hw do you tell the difference between leather and pretend leather? i can't Blush

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/08/2013 22:18

I have some M&S non-leather boots and you honestly wouldn't be able to tell unless you look really close at the top cuff where it folds over. It's softer and glued rather than stitched.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2013 22:29

Initially by the smell, I think. :) And the fake stuff has a different feel too. But tbh I check the materials and if they are plastic, I don't buy them. I failed to stick to my rule once, when dd desperately needed some new boots once. I might as well have just chucked my £40 down the toilet.

Ememem84 · 29/08/2013 22:43

Shoes. Always lk Bennett or Russell and Bromley for work. Coats. And stuff for my face. I swear by clarins.

madammecholet · 29/08/2013 22:43

Hairdresser
Leather bags
Make up, but won't fork out for fifty quid moisturisers etc..
Dentist/hygienist - health in general..
Decent food - you are what u eat..

valiumredhead · 29/08/2013 22:43

Hairdresser and shoes.

MarshaBrady · 29/08/2013 22:45

Hair too.

noisytoys · 29/08/2013 22:47

Clothes and shoes. Not designer but I will choose next and TK Maxx over Primark and Matalan. Shoes I will wear Hush Puppies or Dr Martens. I am too poor to buy cheap clothes and shoes and keep replacing them when they wear out within weeks.

FreshLeticia · 29/08/2013 22:59

Footwear. Leather not vinyl.
Knitwear. Merino and/or cashmere (lasts forever so great value)
Bras.
Outdoor technical gear such as boots, fleeces and waterproofs.
Cheap:
vests, tees, socks, 'fashion' tops

Charlottehere · 29/08/2013 23:06

"i'm nearly embarrassed to ask but hw do you tell the difference between leather and pretend leather? i can't"

You would soon know if you were wearing plastic shoes because your feet sweat more.
