Hope work isn't too awful mig.

Holiday sounds lovely sleep. I'm Envy!

Was doing some shopping and asked about your dress in my local Whistles foxy but they only had an 8 unfortunately. Tried on some dresses while I was there. Will link later as am on phone and Whistles website is a pain... Pondering.

Dauphin · 15/08/2013 17:52

I really rate Penelope Chilvers, Negroni, and got some ankle boots from her last season. I also like the slipper shape, and tend to wear for relaxed evening wear, or at home, with slim cigarette pants or cropped woollen capri's or they dress down a little dress.

Love the shades Foxy.

Whereabouts in France are you Sleep? Love the idea of mountains in the summer - and no mossies to boot!

We have been in wellies this morning as sluiced down here! Typical. DD2 been poorly this afternoon with mysterious flu like symptomsso we watched The Wizard of Oz! - although she was down one minute and putting herself to bed and then jumping up and down on trampoline about half an hour later...

QueenCadbury · 15/08/2013 20:14

Evening all. It's soooo nice to sit down and do a proper catch up now all the guests have left. I have absolutely loved having friends to stay but I miss my evenings doing nothing! I had a long chat with my best friend last night about clothes as she's lost her way since having dc. I think she'd really benefit from getting colours/style done but she doesn't have the confidence to do it. We had great fun today draping scarves and cardigans around her and I diagnosed her as a winter Grin. She looks amazing in pine gree and cobalt and looked far better in my red lippy than me. Hopefully I've given her some confidence to break out of her black rut.

liberty that linen sweater is gorgeous. I like drys suggestions especially pairing it with black. Is it quite short as it looks like it would look nice with a coloured vest peeking out from under it. Also where are you getting your emareald dye from? I tried something using Dylon amazon green but it wasn't right at all.

LinusDKD · 15/08/2013 20:15

grumpy that Coco shirt looks lovely!

The sales assistant in the shop where I bought my Colts was wearing a stunning Equipment shirt which suited her so well. If I had seen it on a hanger I wouldn't have liked it at all because it was olive/military green with a snakeskin print, but she looked awesome in it.

She was just so cool, very minimal make-up (if any) and very natural hair but effortlessly stylish and very friendly as well. I have been lusting after an Equipment shirt ever since but so far I haven't found a colour or print I like.

In that same shop they also had a gorgeous emerald green silk Céline dress but at nearly 1000 ?, I immediately put it back. (DH loved it as well)

foxy a new pair of shades that look good on you can really lift your spirits I find.

sleep enjoy your holiday! If you are in the French Alps I might be able to 'see' you from my bedroom window. (I used to be able to see the top of Mont Blanc on a clear day until the b&?*$#

BrandyAlexander · 15/08/2013 20:30

Hi everyone. Good to hear from you SleepSmile

Still not feeling great. Don't think the air conditioning at work is helping. :(

I have been trying something new at work over the past couple of days, which is wearing a coast structured cream 1/2 sleeves cropped knit with my work dresses. It's a knit that I bought more for cover up at weddings etc but has looked great and I have probably doubled the number of times a year I wear this lovely knit. No external meetings so slight more casual than a jacket but still v formal. Why don't I think of this before??!!

LinusDKD · 15/08/2013 20:32

A winter skort for hopefully

zara

OneLittleLady · 15/08/2013 20:33

I have cleared out my wardrobe and drawers, there's a bin bag full of stuff waiting to go to my sisters for distribution among her and her friends wardrobes. Some of it doesn't fit, some of it's no longer my style and some of it, I don't know WTF I was thinking, it's not me at all. Hopefully it will all go to good homes and I've instructed her to take what doesn't get re-homed to a charity shop. I now have space for new things and can see where I have gaps and holes.

LinusDKD · 15/08/2013 20:36

A skirt for mig

zara

Not sure if you do pencil skirts, but I'd thought you'd like the print and colours.

OneLittleLady · 15/08/2013 20:38

Ooooh, I like that linus even though the link was not destined for me. I wonder if I can get away with something like the model is wearing, with the slim bottom and slouchy, not tucked in top or would it make me look huge?

LinusDKD · 15/08/2013 21:05

I like it too one but I'll have to see the fabric in real life because Zara can be a bit hit and miss for me when it comes to patterns.

I think you can go slouchy on top as the skirt itself is quite fitted or maybe with a belted cardigan.

OneLittleLady · 15/08/2013 21:09

What worries me is that the fitted bottom , slouchy top would emphasize my already massive hips. I have a rather large difference between waist and hips and would like to look trimmer if at all possible!

Sleepwhenidie · 15/08/2013 21:12

Hi, we are in Serre Chevalier for those who asked - just A few hours North of Nice and over the border from Italy, we went to Montgenevre this morning to play on the luge, you get a bubble lift up to the top of the mountain then ride toboggans on rails all the way down, brilliant fun. I would recommend Summer in the mountains to anyone, the kids have a blast and can do more and more of the endless list of stuff on offer every year they get older - horseriding, white water rafting, mountain bike trails, jungle park, canoeing, golf, swimming pools, lots of picnics, it's like a real life Centre Parcs with amazing weather (and probably cheaper) Grin. The cooler evenings are a possible downside but I prefer being able to open the windows at night rather than have aircon and as you said Dauphin, mozzies not an issue!

I am trying not to buy anything or think about A/W until we get back but keeping my eye on you lot for inspiration Grin. Novice sounds like you have found a whole new wardrobe direction with casual-ish knitted jacket. Highly recommend Comptoir for more, I think Grumpy has one same as my black/White one in blue....

Annianni · 15/08/2013 21:32

I have holiday envy again Sleep Envy

As predicted, J Crew have refunded me for the linen tee (i sent them a photo of the grey and white together, and the difference is about 3 inches)

They've said to do what I want with the top too.
So I've got yet another item on the rail that's too small, taunting me...
But I can't fault their customer services, it's second to none.

I've ordered 2 scarves from Baukjen to try, (Grumpy's fault) from their sale section.
One blue, one grey... will link when they're here.
They look quite small in the photo, but nice and big on the model and they have great reviews.

Shop are you home yet?

Liberty, that sweater's lovely and I agree that it'll go with lots of things.
I'd wear it with rolled up jeans, ankle boots and silver jewellery.

Mig, did you like the slightly bonkers black icecream?

Was it Topaz's dd getting results today?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 15/08/2013 21:38

I do have a cobalt/black/white knitted jacket from CdC sleep. Very versatile for bridging the 'smart enough' gap.

I'm happy this evening as I've finally nabbed an Ada dress in burnt orange from Hobbs. It's been sold out in my size since I started pining for one (after seeing it on Kim Sears during Wimbledon). Miraculously has come back into stock just in time for me to wear it to York races next week. Yay!

mignonette · 15/08/2013 21:51

Good evening everyone -

Anni Thanks for the ice cream pic-I repinned it and assume it is liquorice or squid ink. In Japan they have horse ice cream.

Linus Good call with the skirt as it is exactly what I would and do wear.

One You'd look great in a pencil skirt especially if you find one with some stretch in it so that it moves with your curves. Kim Kardashian has a hip to waist ratio that is very pronounced, a lovely booty and a decent rack. She wears pencil skirts a lot. You could always wear pencil skirt/shirt/top with a cardigan or blazer over the top. Make sure the hems fall just below or above the widest point of your hips. That'll give you a little more confidence maybe about wearing these cuts.

I am beyond tired. I am seriously considering. I have done so many years and whilst I enjoy the clinical side and do not mind the paperwork per se, the continual pressure to produce short term results for people who need long to medium term input is immense. Plus the bed crisis (of which there has been coverage re sectioning to gain access to beds) alongside cuts in staff numbers makes me feel vulnerable. And if I feel vulnerable what in Gods name must clients feel? I just cannot fit them all in yet I have to take on even more. Plus CPD/training days/Audit training/new protocols/lLiaison nursing/clinical, managerial and peer led supervision bla bla bla. That is not the quarter of it. I also have to run Discharge preparation support groups w/ staff nurses and OT's on a local acute unit oh and contribute to a Journal club and Mental Health Promotion student nurse training packs. And mentor pre and post reg conversion students. And do on call.

Then I have to commute between the country where I live and the city where I work and I cannot transfer locally because of various reasons...Gah...

Anyway rant over. I loved those Valentino shoes and that Smythson Panama bag I posted earlier (?last thread). I cannot ever justify spending that much on a pair of non essential shoes so will have to hope they come up on sale at some point. I received £50 John Lewis vouchers as belated birthday gift today from colleagues so am looking for something to spend them on other than my Waitrose shop! I want a new duvet set in a navy/white geometric style print. Will have to browse.

Sleep Your holiday sounds wonderful. Can it really only be a couple of weeks since I returned? Enjoy...

OneLittleLady · 15/08/2013 21:57

That sounds awful Mig I can only speak from a clients perspective but I've seen how busy my CPN is and how much pressure there is to discharge people to make room for others in need. It's terrible from where I'm sitting. I've had six doctors in the space of five years because they keep leaving and 3 different CPNs in the same time. All I want is some continuity but they can't give it as they are overrun with changes to procedure themselves Sad

Topazandpearl · 15/08/2013 22:02

Sleep and Dry's holidays sound wonderful and I like the suggestions for Liberty's jumper.

Yes, Anni, my DD got her results today, and we are all very happy Grin. She exceeded what she needed for her firm choice so will be off to uni in just over a month Shock.

She will be heading somewhere known for its wind and rain, so I have promised her a warm, waterproof and stylish coat (with a hood). She likes the Barbour style. Any suggestions gratefully received.

She is out now celebrating with friends. DS is out too (he is older and home for the summer). It is a little taste of what it will be like in October when they will both be away. I won't spoil tonight by fretting about that now, though. It only seems five minutes ago that they were tucked up in bed having had their bedtime story!

OneLittleLady · 15/08/2013 22:07

Congratulations to your DD topaz it must feel good to have exceeded what she needed Smile

Topazandpearl · 15/08/2013 22:09

Oh Mig, sorry, cross-posted. Sometimes it is only after a break that you can see the reality of a situation. When you are stuck in the daily grind, it is not so easy.
Do you have options? Reduce hours or do something else, related or not? Is there someone at work that you can discuss the situation with or is that not wise? Meanwhile, rant on here as much as you like. I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

LeFreakCestChic · 15/08/2013 22:11

Any suggestions with how to style a ruched me & em dress..? I order 3 in the sale ( all 1/2 price): black, navy & grey..got a bit carried away...

They're lovely but any suggestions on how to stule them for work to disguise chubby waist and tummy would be great

Topazandpearl · 15/08/2013 22:11

Thanks One, she is beyond thrilled!

Topazandpearl · 15/08/2013 22:15

LeFreak, I have worn mine with a skinny belt, with a belted open cardi - waterfall (got this tip fromHopefully's blog, will try to find the link) or long and with a cropped jacket. I have a chubbier tummy than I would like and find that the ruching distracts from it (maybe only in my mind, but neer mind).

libertychick · 15/08/2013 22:15

Thanks Dry, Anni and QueenC for the ideas. I think layering something under might work - the problem is that it is slightly short so IMO draws attention to my upper thighs/saddlebags. It might work with something like the Zara pencil skirt Linus has pinned. With black is a good idea too - will try with black jeans at the weekend.

QueenC thanks for the feedback on the green Dylon - that's the one I was thinking about getting...maybe I'll try a different colour, have you tried the dylon reds or blues?

One please don't describe yourself as disgusting Sad - you are a vibrant, smart, funny, interesting woman with a great sense of style... be kind to yourself Flowers

Sleep I've just gone to p59 of Red following your post and wow, that cardi is just fantastic....

Topazandpearl · 15/08/2013 22:19

Link for LeFreak here from Hopefully's blog

libertychick · 15/08/2013 22:20

Cross post - v v well done to your DD Topaz - I get teary at the idea of DD ever being at that stage and she's only 2.7!!!

LeFreak this Cardi would look good over the Me&Em dresses. Or wear with a jersey blazer and a scarf, opaques and heels.
