Help me find some tops! Please?

OK - I'm 5'10", hourglass with a narrow (for my size, mind) high waist and bigger hips, long body, 10.5ish stone, size 14/16, 36-38D. And because I'm tall, tops (and everything else) tend to be too short. I need to find some that:
-- are smarter than t-shirts, even (gasp!) smarter than my aging collection of t-shirt-like things with some decoration or waist tie thingy
-- not too smart (would be overdressed in my casual work envt); should be something I can wear with jeans, let's say
-- go in at the waist. This is essential.
-- cover down to at least the hip level or even lower; I can't be showing midriff or back or side bits all the time!
-- must not be so tight as to ride up or show, ahem, an imperfectly shaped stomach which just might be perhaps not entirely toned...
-- budget 0-50£? Would pay more for the perfect thing...
-- short or no sleeves preferred. long OK but I have a few long-sleeved tops I can wear and need more for warmer weather.

Am I looking for the impossible here? My one very successful purchase at Macy's, donkey's years ago, makes me think not, but am in the UK now!

Can't help but I'm 5'7" and no tops go lower than my belly button. Drives me batty.

Next catalogue have long tops but they are all pig ugly.
I tend to wear tunics. Try joules tunics, often clever stripes and cut for long bodies. Useful with the current leggings trend.

Otherwise I am agog to any replies....

No! At least some, maybe event just one, of the lovely and stylish ladies on here must have something for me! Right?

Boden have some empirey tunic tops in their autumn preview.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/08/2013 13:51

Could you wear a long line vest under a shorter top maybe?
Is there anything here? Or are they all polyester horrors?

I'm 5'8 and have the same problem.

I have quite a few tops that would suit you, which can look smart for work or be dressed down a bit with jeans, but most of them were bought 4-5 years ago. I've not bought many tops at all the past couple of seasons.

On the other hand, none of the tops I buy (but especially the nice long ones) ever go in at the waist in the right place, so I usually end up having to take in the side seams a bit.

I did buy a couple of long, sleeveless blouses in H&M a couple of weeks ago which might suit you, similar to this. They're synthetic of course, but the fabric is very silky and not at all clingy. They come in various patterns and colour schemes...
I've also occasionally found things on Asos which were quite nice, although I don't like a lot of their fabrics.

Also, how about something like this or this.
Finally, I don't know if Sinequanone ships to the UK, but I buy quite a lot of my clothes from them. I like this and maybe this,

Oh, forgot to mention: I sometimes actually buy stuff in the maternity section, for the extra length, and then take in the side seams!

I can't find these tops either. There was a tall thread recently but we mainly just commiserated. There are some good links on there as well, tho!

littlemissnormal · 10/08/2013 21:09

Have you tried White Stuff? They see to do longer fitted tops.

afussyphase · 12/08/2013 12:21

Thanks everyone! Will try the H&M ones, as it's not a big investment. vitaminC, the lulu top is perfect -- I know as it's similar to a phase 8 one I have, so I'll order that. Thanks!
Haven't considered something like the LK Bennet one; would have to go try it on to make sure it wouldn't be too narrow on the hips but it could be really good.
Thanks for the long tall sally link, too, Remus - at least I'd know the camis were long enough and then yes, I could maybe wear them under other things which would be good.
White stuff, I'll try, had a couple things in there a few years ago that I liked, but they are both skirts. If anyone sees anything else please link it! thanks again!
