I want an Anne Hathaway crop

JemimaMuddledUp · 09/08/2013 19:02

Am I mad?

I currently have a long bob with a fringe (picture on my profile, although have lost weight since that was taken and my face is a bit thinner now). I really fancy having it shorter, something like Anne Hathaway's longer crop. Do you think it will suit me?

DH likes the idea. DC are horrified, but they always are when I change my hair. They'll get used to it.

The DC have an appointment at the hairdresser's tomorrow with the stylist who also does my hair, I'm going to have a chat with her about it.

& another nice one.

shopafrolic · 09/08/2013 22:07

I've pinned quite a few styles here

cocolepew · 09/08/2013 22:07

No I'm in NI and I do my own hair!!

I cut DDs from below her chin into a Ginnifer Goodwin (Wandas first picture), she's 15 and the only girl in her school with short hair.

ColouringInQueen · 09/08/2013 22:14

Go for it! I agree with biryani and suggest layers, but longer ones on top to give you some volume. Maybe dont go dead short to start with? I have short hair with about 4 inch long layers on top. Its great. I have very fine hair and it looks loads better short.

Look forward to seeing a new photo...

aftermay · 09/08/2013 22:16

OP - I think it would suit you, slightly asymmetric and with more weight on top.

aftermay · 09/08/2013 22:17

Shopafrolic - thanks for the other links too. Quite a few pretty women on there with good haircuts.

aftermay · 09/08/2013 22:18

Cocolepew- do you also dye it at home? You're brave. I've dyed mine plenty of times but not from brown to blonde for a long time.

cocolepew · 09/08/2013 22:29

Yes. The good thing about short hair is the dye gets cut out more often, so stays in better condition. I've gone blonde to try to merge the dreaded grey in.

cocolepew · 09/08/2013 22:30

My mum is 70 and has close cropped siver hair. It must be a Number 2 in length..

polyhymnia · 09/08/2013 22:59

I love well cut crops - often so much better than boring long hair that just sits there. I'd definitely go for it if I were you.

JemimaMuddledUp · 10/08/2013 08:17

Thanks.

I know that isn't the best picture of Anne Hathaway, but it was one where her short hair wasn't really short IYSWIM. I want to keep some length on the top/fringe as I really don't suit not having a fringe.

Also as I say my profile picture isn't quite how I look now, I think I was a size 14/16 then and I am now a size 10. So although my face shape is still roundish it isn't as chubby.

I love Ginnifer Goodwin's hair.

I'm going to talk to my hairdresser this morning about it. My hair grows pretty quickly, which is a double edged sword really as it means that it will grow out fairly easily if I hate it but if I love it it will need very regular trims to keep it looking good!

Also I am hoping that if I get it cut and it looks fab it will help my confidence. I have completely changed in appearance over the past 12 months anyway as I have lost 5 stone in weight and I do feel more confident about myself than I used to. I am trying to look after myself a bit more - getting my nails done and my eyebrows shaped, wearing make up every day, dressing nicely etc. But my hair as it is at the moment is making me feel a bit frumpy. Especially as I am exercising regularly and then it just gets sweaty so has to be washed all the time and takes ages to style. It is also really dry from swimming. I'm hoping for low maintenance and stylish (and possibly the moon on a stick Wink )

Wow 5 stone! Brilliant! I'm very EnvyGrin.

Dont forget we want pictures later.

aftermay · 10/08/2013 09:18

5 stone?!?! Well done. Yes, photos too.

spanishring · 10/08/2013 09:33

I hope you do get it cut. I always admire people who have short stylish hair. I rarely as admire people with long hair ( I'm talking 35 plus here). I think people get stuck on having their security blanket of hair.
Also, psychologically, I think it's far healthier to think oh fuck it I'm going for a change than I will never be parted from my mermaid hair.

I'm looking forward to the pics!

Fishandjam · 10/08/2013 09:40

I certainly walked waaaay taller when I got cropped!

Though it sometimes seems like it's a Mumsnet prerequisite to have long "swishy" hair (at least if you frequent the S&B board).

Fishandjam · 10/08/2013 09:46

Oh, and I'm a month off 40 Grin

biryani · 10/08/2013 09:51

I think those layery cuts you''ve posted look great, and you can always grow it into a sortbof layered bob if you don't like it. Another thing- personally I always feel I need more makeup with short hair, so overall look not particularly low-maintenance.

snowlie · 10/08/2013 10:09

I had my hair like that about 10 years ago. I really liked it, I got it cut regularly and the cut always changed. I have wavy hair but I found this style easy to look after - my hair dried straight and was easy to play with.
Stick a bit of lipstick on and you can achieve a very dramatic, slightly edgy look without much effort. I think you'd suit it and if you don't growing it out is easy.

AnnetteCurtin · 10/08/2013 10:16

Do it. As for high maintenance - it's not. Wash it, dry it, rub a bit of wax through it, job done. If you hate it, remember hair grows Smile

PlumSykes · 10/08/2013 11:00

I love my shortie crop. LOVE it. Does need chopping every 4 weeks, though, which can be a chore.

PlumSykes · 10/08/2013 11:01

Whereabouts in Wales are you, Jemima? Can recommend my hairdresser in Cardiff v highly.

RachelWornOut · 10/08/2013 11:04

Nice pins, shopafrolic!

SauceForTheGander · 10/08/2013 11:23

I did it in my 20s and it didn't work for me. I found it high maintenance as needed more regular cuts and blow drying. I thought I'd look like Mia Farrow but I didn't pull it off. I think my head is too small.

It didn't work for Kate moss either and she has the best cheek bones in the UK.

But if it's a style you can pull off it's a fantastic look.

Keztrel · 10/08/2013 14:02

I luuurve her hair in this pic and its quite long on top so will grow out fast. Go for it, it's only hair!
