Beyonce's new crop haircut

Have Just seen some pics of beyonce with her new short hair and she looks amazing. The article had a load of befores and afters of others who had gone for crops- Helen Mirren, Sharon Stone, Kate Moss, Carey Mulligan etc and every one of them looked so much better and cooler with short hair, the older women especially. Combine this with being increasingly fed up woth my shoulder length hair in this heat and my 40th birthday fast approaching, and am thinking of dping something radical. Remember Gwyneth Paltrow in Sliding Doors? However all these women are beautiful and I am fairly average at best. My hair is naturally mousey so I highlight it, and it's very fine and flyaway. It basically looks a bit Anistony. What i want to avoid is the severe older woman look (think Judy Murray). Appreciate that none of you can advise without seeing me, but what are people's experiences of going for the chop- did you regret it, or feel liberated and refreshed?

I think you do have to be pretty to get awsy with very short hair. I had my hair cropped years ago when I was about 18 and got told quite a few times that I looked like a man Sad
I let it grow out and have never had short hair since Grin

Pinupgirl · 09/08/2013 22:05

I don't think beyonce looks good at all with a crop. I hate short hair on women-very few women can pull it off imo-you have to have very good bone structure.

I lost all my lovely long hair a few years ago when I had chemotherapy-I hated having to grow my hair out again. Took years and it was never the same.

All the women I know with very cropped hair look mannish.

Hadmeathello · 09/08/2013 22:11

I think you have to be really stylish to pull off a crop otherwise it's more likely to look frumpy. Agree that it's not Beyonce's best look.

coffeeinbed · 09/08/2013 22:15

She's a beautiful woman, but that cut does nothing for her.

Chottie · 11/08/2013 03:36

Not keen on her new look either. Short hair needs fine, delicate features IMO the Gladys Pugh look is rarely flattering.

buttercrumble · 11/08/2013 07:55

Im not keen , she suited it longer

noddyholder · 11/08/2013 08:35

She looks very run of the mill with it concisering she has access to amazing make up and stylists. So day to day without it does as Sophie says look very soccer mom. Love pixie hair if it suits you thought need petite everything apart from eyes! Too skinny looks haggard and too heavy looks butch. I don.t have the right body type or face have always wished I did!

cafenoir · 11/08/2013 08:38

Nope. Don't think it does anything for her. Suspect it won't last long. And maybe this isn't an actual crop but a wig/weave too?

noddyholder · 11/08/2013 08:39

Miley Cyrus looks amazing with the same blonde crop

ithaka · 11/08/2013 08:42

I recently had my long hair cut. I didn't go for a full on pixie cut as I think that is hard to live up to. It is cropped short at the back but longer on top - a bit of an asymmetric Eton crop is how I would describe it. I love it - the cut is so fierce that even if I don't have time to style it, you can see it is a funky style, not a Pat Butcher. It certainly looks better than when I would just scrape my long hair into a pony tail. I do need to get it cut every 6-8 weeks to keep the fierceness.

JemimaMuddledUp · 11/08/2013 08:45

I didn't see this before I posted my crop thread.

Yesterday I had my longish bob chopped into a crop. I went to the hairdressers clutching a picture of Anne Hathaway, and came out really pleased with my new look.

Interestingly when I asked the "should I chop my hair?" question a lot of people on here said no, but then when I put the new picture up everyone said it suited me. I love it. And I've just washed, dried and styled it in about 5 minutes flat Grin

The crop doesn't suit her. Too thick a neck and not too much of a stand out bone structure ( her sister has more stand out features, whilst Beyonce looks like her mother). For once, I will say the Rapunzel weave looks better on her. Maybe if she got some expression behind the eyes, she could carry it off. She needs to drop the blond, too....very ageing.

IceCreamForCrow · 11/08/2013 09:45

I don't think it suits her too well either.

I think curls/waves look better on her. Shorter would have been ok (not as short as she's gone though) and kept the curls.

buttercrumble · 11/08/2013 10:34

Jemima just had a sneeky peek at your photos , your hair looks amazing shorter Smile

PlumSykes · 11/08/2013 10:43

Ahem. Women with crops do not all look 'mannish'. I do not look mannish.

RonaldMcDonald · 11/08/2013 10:44

I'm unsure about her new hair on her although I'm beyond glad that she did it.
Every single teenage girl (or so it seems) has long Rapunzel locks..maybe this will help them to see that there are any number of hairstyles that a woman can have and still be a woman

dirtyface · 11/08/2013 11:05

i love my hair short, i much prefer it to long, just go for it, its only hair, it will grow if you dont like it

at the moment mine is a bit like gwyneth paltrows in sliding doors but longer at the front. and red

i have also got an undercut (shaved bit) on the long side

i am 33 btw

ithaka · 11/08/2013 11:09

I too do not look 'mannish' with my short hair - I am only wee, so I don't ever look masculine, but I guess I could look 'boyish', which I quite like the idea of.

I am so bored of the Disney princess hair that seems mandatory at the moment. A funky crop just looks so much sharper and more modern.

IceCreamForCrow · 11/08/2013 11:14

'its only hair, it will grow'

Well yes, but blimey mine has been agony to grow back.

Don't get me wrong I do like short hair on the right face. I had mine v short for years, but I began to feel that (for me) it was too severe and decided to grow it back in. It's taken two years to get it into a reasonable bob and for much of that I've been tempted to wear a paper bag on my head because it was so impossibly annoying and all over the placeHmm

IceCreamForCrow · 11/08/2013 11:17

One sleb type person who I do think looks FAB with short hair is Miley Cyrus. I have not much clue as to who she is or what she does, but short hair on her looks gorgeoous imho.

BitchyRestingFace · 11/08/2013 14:34

This is something I've noticed quite often, actually. When I was a little girl (not that long ago, really), I had short hair, as did several other girls I knew. It wasn't unusual. But now, thinking of DD's class (Y3), all have their hair shoulder-length or longer except for DD, who asked for it short back in the spring and got an adorable gamine textured crop. When I mentioned to friends that she had asked for this and I was going to take her to have it done, they were Shock Shock Shock at the thought of cutting a little girl's hair short. We went ahead anyway, and she has had so many compliments.

I had a very short crop when DD was a baby and I loved it. I haven't had it that short again since, but I do have it cut shortish every now and again - I tend to grow it past my shoulders and then gradually find it more and more intolerable until I flip and go to the nearest salon, and I have found that hairdressers are oddly reluctant to do it - I pull out my pictures of perfectly lovely chin-length styles and there's a lot of gasp-are-you-sure-wow-aren't-you-brave Hmm

WeGotTheKrunk · 11/08/2013 15:00

It depends on your face doesn't it? I don't like Bey's short hair - her features are too large for it, makes her look a bit mannish.

OTOH I think Emma Watson looks amazing with short hair. I think short hair looks really good on those who have small features & a little pixie face. I don't think you have to be thin to pull it off.

Jemima I love your hair! It really suits you short.

cocolepew · 11/08/2013 15:05

My Dd is 15 and thd only girl in her High School with a crop. She has it cut like Gennifer Goodwin.

The picture on my profile was my hair in May, now its cropped and blonde.
