I have a Pippa...

And it has not been out of its dust-bag since I bought it.

I bought it literally the week before the Royal wedding. Suddenly a week later I had an accidental 'it' bag and I was embarrassed that people would think I was trying to copy Pippa Middleton.

Then the Daily Mail, who were obsessed with her, printed a sweatshop story about how the Modalu bags were made for pennies in terrible conditions, and that made me feel even more shit about it.

I can't bring myself to eBay it because it's the only expensive(ish) bag I've ever owned, and I know I'd probably only get a fraction back from eBay.

So I'm thinking about going for it, actually taking it out of the house... What are the chances people will judge me negatively?

Put it on Ebay.com. An American might be happy to snap it up for a good price? Include Pippa pictures and make a note of the Brit factor. Are there still waiting lists for Modalu Pippa bags?

KosherBacon · 08/08/2013 21:51

Well if you mix in circles where people know handbags then people might notice but to be honest I've never heard of the bag. Even a quick google and I wouldn't know what it was. But then again I don't read the Daily Mail.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 08/08/2013 21:54

What colour is it?

I have a tan one that gets a lot of compliments, but I don't look anything like Pippa Middleton and I don't think people around here recognise it. In London, on the other hand, it seems everyone knows it as the Pippa bag.

I really want a more subtle one. I love the shark grey one!

madammecholet · 08/08/2013 21:56

ebay it Wink

GreenSkittles · 08/08/2013 22:05

I've got the shark one. It's literally the one PM was pictured with the day after the wedding www.google.co.uk/search?q=pippa+middleton+pippa+bag+day+after+wedding&rlz=1C1CHFX_enGB514GB514&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=ewcEUs3zAcmq0QXG0ICQCg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=643 I don't know if that link will work.

I feel unsure about eBaying it, even though I should. The joy of owning it lasted me about six days Grin

I like the tan one better Caja Plus tan is more versatile.

If you want to swap PM me Grin

It sounds like Pippa has one in every colour. So even if yours wasn't the grey (shark? really?) one you'd still be 'copying' her.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it - it looks like a great bag. If anyone asks you could pretend it's Pippa's actual bag and you carry it around on the days when she's using one of the other colours Wink

GreenSkittles · 08/08/2013 22:14

I think I have some kind of weird psycho block tribpot I built it up to be a big deal now.

I might just take it to the corner shop tomorrow (and keep an eye out for outraged Daily Mail readers.)

Most people won't even recognise it as a 'Pippa'. Better you use it than the labour used to make it go totally to waste. There are people walking around in all sorts of sweatshop produced clothing from the High Street so they are not ones to judge really.

Most supply and distribution chains are so complex these days too.

They are lovely looking bags. I would carry one.

tribpot · 08/08/2013 22:20

I would do. Parade it round Morrisons or similar (clearly it is a bag that wants to go no lower down the supermarket hierarchy than Waitrose) and see if it complains.

I do think "Pippa Grab Shark'' is a brilliant name as well. I have no idea what a 'statement zip' is but I would sling it over your shoulder and strut your stuff. Pippa Schmippa.

Missbopeep · 08/08/2013 22:24

I sold my small tan Pippa on ebay last year and got roughly half of what I'd paid for it. I had hardly used it mainly because I found it heavy when empty and heavier when full!
In some ways I regret selling it as it was in excellent condition and I may have used it sometimes.

My advice is either sell it now, put a reserve price on it on ebay, or use it and forget about what people think.

GreenSkittles · 08/08/2013 22:39

I'll break it in gently tribpot with a jaunt around Sainsbury's.

Pippa Grab Shark does sound great as an instruction, I'd never read it like that before Grin

I would definitely use a reserve bopeep I sold an expensive dress on eBay last year and got £10 for it. The buyer wanted it sent to her CondeNast glossy magazine office, so I sent it - in ASDA packaging. I know it wasn't her fault, but a bit of passive-aggressive made me feel better!

I have a shark one bought last year and have only used it about once.

Even before I read about the workers ' conditions, I took against it and regretted my purchase because the metalwork is just too gold and shiny and bling for my personal taste. Pippa may like it but I just don't think it looks classy. If I was better organised at e-baying would definitely sell it that way as I know I'll never be happy using it.

polyhymnia · 08/08/2013 22:47

PS Also agree it's too heavy.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 08/08/2013 23:22

I love the shark one. Does it look like the photos?

Mine has been used once or twice Green, so I'm not sure you'd want to swap! It's in really good condition in the dust bag but it's not brand new. I'd be totally up for it otherwise, I loved the shark one.

WildThongsHeartString · 08/08/2013 23:25

I thought you meant Pippa the mini Barbie old

I loved my Pippa and her little friends, what were they called?

GreenSkittles · 09/08/2013 00:06

I'm going to pop my Pippa's cherry this weekend Caja then I'll get back to you Smile

(But I do like the tan better, it's the grey that feels especially Middleton-tainted to me.)

WildThong - me too Grin I was getting all excited for a minute there!!

It's a handbag.
Here's a grip.

capitola · 09/08/2013 00:21

I had a Pippa & her friend Emma!

AmberNectarine · 09/08/2013 06:43

Same thing happened to me - I had the same grey one she carried it. Sold it on eBay for £300!! That was May 2011 though...

MissBeehiving · 09/08/2013 07:14

I had a Britt and a Tammie too

Missbopeep · 09/08/2013 08:04

TBH I don't think people will bat an eyelid. The Pippa craze is a bit passe now. When I bought mine- about 2 years ago- people were going mad for them and I got one of the last ones left from J Lewis. At that time everyone was buying them and selling them on Ebay simply to make a profit and were selling for 2 x the price they'd paid!
As I said I got around 50% of the cost of mine which I felt was okay though would have liked a bit more- I'd used it a little but it was still as new.

Roshbegosh · 09/08/2013 08:07

I use mine quite a lot and no one has pointed or sniggered so far. Don't worry about it, it's only a handbag.

SundaySimmons · 09/08/2013 08:23

I've just bought two, a small toffee one and a large blue one.

I carry the blue one most days, it has organised all my stuff and holds everything I need.

I find most people that comment on it is because they like it and want to know where I got it. The majority haven't heard of the brand nor the connotation with Pippa Middleton. No one has been put off by Pippa Moddleton, it sounds a bit pretentious to be honest, to be put off by someone else having the same bag.
