People who dress their kids in Boden are socially insecure?

Hi all

Did any of you see the Times article that said the people who dress their kids in Boden are socially insecure? Did you think the author was right?

Some of the alternatives made me laugh, if I put DS in Bonpoint, he'll get pasta sauce on it and I'll cry. Plus I can't get the website to work.

Have liked some of the stuff on ilovegorgeous though.

People who take fashion or lifestyle articles in newspapers seriously and consider changing their behaviour because of them are socially insecure.

HTH.

colditz · 04/08/2013 15:48

I agree with it, actually, and you've kind of made their point by only suggesting a more expensive alternative. What is wrong with Adams, Next, M & S or even the supermarket brands?

They are all as good in quality as Boden. My son has a couple of Boden t shirts .... They are just t shirts.

docket · 04/08/2013 15:48

Yeh, those kind of generalisations ar completely valid.

dexter73 · 04/08/2013 15:48

I think the author is a nobber.

docket · 04/08/2013 15:49

Are!

Morgause · 04/08/2013 15:50

I agree with it as well.

The people I know who dress their children expensively are those struggling for money. The ones who are loaded don't have anything to prove.

Elsiequadrille · 04/08/2013 15:51

I think some people may have bought it for their children in it a 'keeping up with the Joneses' way. But my own experience is that people are abandoning it in favour of lesser known, better quality, brands, including Bonpoint.

We have bought some ilovegorgeous, but so many photos of celebs wearing it (e.g. the Beckham child) have put me off.

Elsiequadrille · 04/08/2013 15:53

I like it still, but more for everyday children's wear. This season I just bought comfortable plain basics from Boden. I've bought more from Smafolk and Oilily (pre ordered) instead.

CruCru · 04/08/2013 15:53

Well, the article did mention John Lewis / Mothercare etc (which lots of people buy from) but I was mainly taken aback by Bonpoint. I do see that it is probably not to be taken seriously, it was a fluff piece in the Style / Magazine section I think.

Oh no, I really like some of bodens stuff, my little girl has a few of their cordroy dresses.
I'm so socially insecure I will not be able to buy them any more in fear of being accused of being social insecure.

KosherBacon · 04/08/2013 15:56

What happens if you buy your Boden stuff in the sale when its priced the same as Next clothing but better made? Help, my poor socially insecure self.

Elsiequadrille · 04/08/2013 15:56

Boden isn't expensive though, is it? It's average for high street prices?

Chocotrekkie · 04/08/2013 15:58

Or they have a stupidly fussy child who will only wear clothes with animals on them and the only nice ones you can find are boden....

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 04/08/2013 15:58

I'm just amazed there are people out there who can tell a boden t shirt from a primark one! How on earth can folks tell?

It's a shame if there are people out there who are dressing in a certain brand hoping that others will notice and be suitably impressed, cos I think they're wasting their money as I suspect most people are like me and wouldn't have a clue unless there was someone walking behind you with a big sign saying Designer Brand X, Cost £!!!

I buy Boden stuff for my DC, especially DD, as I like the fact that its not all pink/Disney/Hello Kitty, it washes well and can be worn everyday.
I also buy from vertbaudet, mothercare, sainsburys, H&M, Monsoon, JL, Debenhams, Asda and anywhere I can get a good bargain.
I'm far from socially insecure, I'm more 'socially don't give a fuck'. If the DC'll wear it and like wearing it who cares where it's from?

Elsiequadrille · 04/08/2013 16:01

I can. I can guess roughly which year the Boden clothes were from, too, having shopped with them for a decade or so. They are generally quite distinctive.

theresmoretome · 04/08/2013 16:01

It is expensive. i buy in the sale only. Not sure what that says about my social status...

CruCru · 04/08/2013 16:01

I quite like Boden. I especially like the way the kids stuff can be tumble dried. This is very important to me.

I buy children's clothes from Boden and am from the definite don't give a fuck camp. Most MN types would look down on me and I don't think my children's clothes would make a difference. I buy from there because :

They wash well
No logos
Nice fabric
Sensible
I don't have to go in a shop.

CruCru · 04/08/2013 16:04

Yes, not having to buy in person is also a big bonus.

OP posts:
colditz · 04/08/2013 16:05

Hecsy, you can't ell until you get your hands on it. Boden tend to use slightly thicker cotton, and it's just a little bit better stitched, so it washed well and doesn't lose shape.

Because everyone under 12 completely gives a shit if their t shirt is slightly out of shape.

santamarianovella · 04/08/2013 16:06

op, my parents bought a bonpoint outfit for dd first christmas, a really gorgeous dress, with wrap around cardi, and tights, she threw up on it after an hour ,and the thing is dry clean only! and costs a fortune

Arisbottle · 04/08/2013 16:07

Colditz my children don't care but I have an irrational hatred of stretched clothes. It probably reveals something dark about me.

CruCru · 04/08/2013 16:07

I've never even seen anything by Bonpoint. Presumably I am not their target market.

Yes, you definitely have a personality disorder, based on my professional internetting degree.
