Love all the answers. The one where you have to stick to one designer, all the good ones here.

santamarianovella · 12/08/2013 22:43

linus my dad loves brunello cucinelli,he bought me the warmest, softest cashmere cardigan a few years back, love their styling, very relaxed and slouchy.

libertychick · 12/08/2013 22:47
  1. What was the first clothing item you remember really loving? A sailor style dress in red multi coloured stripes with a red belt - a present from my aunt when she got her first job.

  2. What perfume did you recall your Mother wearing? None And what aftershave did your Father wear? Blue Stratus

  3. What was the first 'Designer' item you bought? Fendi sunglasses - only about 4 years ago. I have come late in life to labels!

  4. What is your most sentimental item of clothing/accessory? Nothing really - maybe my wedding ring. I don't tend to be sentimental about 'things'.

  5. What is your children's favourite item of clothing? Peppa pig t shirt!

  6. What do you wear now that feels the most 'you'/ defines your personality? Black slim fit Levis, my blue Agnes B shirt and black ballet flats worn with silver and black jewellery.

  7. If you could dress in any designer, but only one, who would it be? Very hard to answer - Miu Miu?

  8. What style/type of clothing does not suit you at all? Drop waists, anything with frills or bows, heels above one and half inches!

McNally · 12/08/2013 23:07

Great quiz Mig. Love reading the answers. Here are mine.

  1. What was the first clothing item you remember really loving? A pink knitted ballet crossover top.

  2. What perfume did you recall your Mother wearing? And what aftershave did your Father wear? Mother - Estée Lauder Youth Dew. Father - doesn't wear aftershave.

  3. What was the first 'Designer' item you bought? Gucci sunglasses.

  4. What is your most sentimental item of clothing/accessory? My rings - beautiful narrow diamond wedding band and my Grandmother's ring (think it was her engagement ring but not sure)

  5. What is your children's favourite item of clothing? A Panama hat with neon pink and cream stride grosgrain ribbon trim.

  6. What do you wear now that feels the most 'you'/ defines your personality? Tough one. Probably knee length dress slim fitting, black with small white bird pattern, elbow length sleeves and slash neck.

  7. If you could dress in any designer, but only one, who would it be? Prada.

  8. What style/type of clothing does not suit you at all? Flouncy, boho, hippie.

AmberNectarine · 12/08/2013 23:11
  1. What was the first clothing item you remember really loving? My mum took me to Selfridges to buy an outfit for my 7th birthday party. I chose a black dress with a full taffeta skirt and jewelled belt, and multicoloured sequin pumps. Total cost - £90, in 1991! Spoiled brat!

  2. What perfume did you recall your Mother wearing? And what aftershave did your Father wear? My mum collects them so always something different. My dad never wore anything, neither does my DH.

  3. What was the first 'Designer' item you bought?
A nova check Burberry sunhat. I was 15. It cost me £65 and I looked like a prize bellend. I thought I was the nads.

  4. What is your most sentimental item of clothing/accessory? The purple Mulberry Roxanne tote DH bought me for our first Christmas together - he got it so right!

  5. What is your children's favourite item of clothing?
At the moment they each have a Despicable Me t-shirt from Tesco that have to be prised off them for washing.

  6. What do you wear now that feels the most 'you'/ defines your personality? My Rocco

  7. If you could dress in any designer, but only one, who would it be? Ooh, it's like Sophie's Choice. Alexander Wang, but only if I can have T by as well. Or Rick Owens (including Lillies and DRKSHDW)

  8. What style/type of clothing does not suit you at all?
Anything overly feminine or girly - no ruffles/lace/pastels/florals. Not sure I own a single floral thing, actually. Blouses make me look like anyone's mother in law. My idea of a nightmare would be a pussybow blouse, I think.

mignonette · 12/08/2013 23:23

McNally What a stylish little child you have in their Panama!

We need an I.T person to do some answer mapping (!) but a definite strong aversion to frilly/flouncy/BoHo/empire/fussy. Then dislike of masculine/Wag/High Maintenance/50's/bodycon all mentioned too.

Nearly all of us have perfumed Mothers but either do not recall Father's scent or he doesn't use one. We recall our childhood favourites very well and that is interesting in itself. Nearly all of us said jewellery was our most sentimental 'clothing' possession and also gave the reason why even if other answers were succinct. Almost as if the value of the item emotionally increases every time we remember why it is so. (Cod psychology- I am a sucker for it.)

Fascinating.....Hopefully some lurkers will be tempted to respond- we know you are out there Wink...

mignonette · 12/08/2013 23:25

And I love my Roxanne too Amber... I'm amazed how we managed to name so few designers or decide between them!

santamarianovella · 12/08/2013 23:36

mig i loooove 60s hippie chic, and boho styles, so was surprised that it was disliked by many!

mignonette · 12/08/2013 23:38

I like that style too on everybody else but I get drowned by long trailing hems and loads of layers. I think it is more the case that people said it didn't suit them rather than hating it Santa.

McNally · 12/08/2013 23:44

Love boho/hippie (is there a difference?) on others santa just really doesn't suit me. I look like I'm playing dress up!

scripsi · 12/08/2013 23:51

I would say that Marant is a kind of minimalised boho
I am short and can't wear long trailing hems without looking like one of those insane doll toilet roll holders. But I do like a floppy hatted on-holiday-with-rolling-stones vibe (if only I could achieve that).

mignonette · 13/08/2013 00:01

Kate Moss has built her career on channelling Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenburg. I like some of Marants stuff too.

Negroni · 13/08/2013 00:07

Shreddies I feel your pain about that scarf - it was lovely and on sale!! How bad can they actually be?

santamarianovella · 13/08/2013 02:36

mig I never liked the overdone Woodstock look, love the tone down version, like how Sharon Tate dressed.

this Pic is my all time fav boho chic look,
mcnally I always wanted to know the difference between the two.

scripsi you are right ,marant has a very modern boho vibe.

MarshaBrady · 13/08/2013 06:27

Marant is a another favourite, so I would look very different in only that if not Celine. And I find that I'm not minimal or boho enough really for one and not the other.

Was it a favourite thing from our childhood? I did the dc.

Hopefully · 13/08/2013 07:04
  1. What was the first clothing item you remember really loving?
A pair of minnie mouse leggings! I do wish it was something slightly more sophisticated...

  2. What perfume did you recall your Mother wearing? And what aftershave did your Father wear? My mother used to wear Chanel No 5, I have absolutely no idea what my dad's is, but he's been wearing the same one for as long as I've been alive, so I'd recognise it anywhere.

  3. What was the first 'Designer' item you bought? A mulberry handbag, from the factory shop in Shepton Mallet. I ebayed it about a decade later for more than I paid Shock

  4. What is your most sentimental item of clothing/accessory?
my engagement ring, which contains diamonds from my great aunt's ring (she was engaged but never married as her fiance died in WWI)

  5. What is your children's favourite item of clothing?
    DS1 - a blue Boden t-shirt with a dinosaur on it
DS2 - purple pyjamas with tigers on (also Boden. Middle class mother alert)

  6. What do you wear now that feels the most 'you'/ defines your personality?
Not 'now', but in the winter, my Drome leather leggings.

  7. If you could dress in any designer, but only one, who would it be?
    Alexander McQueen

  8. What style/type of clothing does not suit you at all?
Anything pretty, floral, small scale prints, tea dresses, broderie anglaise, and anything 50s/Mad Men (although that's not quite as terrible as the aforementioned pretty stuff). I need sharp angles or huge billows of clothes, very few prints work on me, need some edge in what I'm wearing or I look like somebody's grandmother.

Hopefully · 13/08/2013 07:05

Marant is probably one of the designers I love most whose stuff doesn't really work on me. The odd thing might be ok, but mostly it is too boho for me. Gorgeous clothes though

Hopefully · 13/08/2013 07:06

Mig I just read your summary after posting my answer, and it all applies to me too!

Hopefully · 13/08/2013 07:13

Oh, I know the printed legging haters here are many and varied, but I am in love with these. Wouldn't work for my colours, but I love them.

skylerwhite · 13/08/2013 08:54

My stories dress is all wrong. Far too big and gapey. Sad

Also decided to return the Hobbs coat as well, it was too big on the shoulders and the waist.

mignonette · 13/08/2013 09:12

Good Morning everybody...Smile...

Lovely reading through those answers again. Feel I have a better idea of you all although will likely be totally wrong should we ever meet.

Santa That is such an iconic photograph. I first saw that in my 'Vogue Book of Beauty' that I received aged 13 as a gift. So lovely. She hung out at YSL's Moroccan estate a lot I think.

Hopefully Your Minnie Mouse leggings would be very au courant now. Can see Cara Delevingne and Rita Ora in them.

What a shame about the dress Skyler as it looks so lovely. I would wear that in a heartbeat.

Today I am wearing (or going to wear) Kooples mustard yellow skirt with side pocketshere, my new cheapie dark grey V neck cardigan from New Look which I went back and bought aong with the navy and the teal and these Edelman silver sandals. I wore them to death on holiday and they are on their last legs really after going up mountain trails (!). Bit of a mash up but WTH....

foxysocks · 13/08/2013 09:20

oh I love that kooples skirt, mig. i would love something like that moving into AW.

am rushing, have skim read replies to quiz. will do mine later.

that's such a shame skyler, hate it when pieces that look so promising then disappoint. money in the bank though, think of it that way. Smile

foxysocks · 13/08/2013 09:33

does anyone else do that thing where you see something, bookmark even though you're not sure, then look at it sporadically until you like it more and more each time and then you are looking at it multiple times a day?! it's not just me right??

i should just order to get it out of my system one way or t'other.

mignonette · 13/08/2013 09:39

Foxy Guilty as charged. Currently have a whole load of coats bookmarked including this, this, this and this.

I do not know what coat to buy >

Turquoiseblue · 13/08/2013 09:41

I love a quiz ...
1 first item of clothing you remember really loving? Tartan dress given to me by my godmother for Christmas when I was about 4-5

  1. What perfume do you remember your mother wearing? Distinctly remember her loving a beautiful one that came in a little gold bottle - it was pure parfam and given to her by a friend whom had been travelling, I remember the smell of it and once being let wear some. Dad s smell- not sure - he loves aftershave - string woodsy smells but he s always changing.
(When the kids were babies they would always smell of his after shave after a visit - not when I smell his aftershave it reminds of when the dc's were tiny tiny - he was a great support at the time)
  1. First desingner item ? Trying to think, don't have a lot of designer items tbh so shouldn't be that difficult! Ohhh yes actually well it was more diffusion range but I loved it so much- a one shoulder 'see by Chloe' cream top that had the loveliest beading hanging off one shoulder the beads were crystal red and green hung off like s fringe on one shoulder and I had Swarovski bracelets to match - wore it with a green swing skirt - for the first wedding I was invited to as an 'adult' with my boyfriend (now dh ) I loved loved loved it! I was 22. Had some shades / wallets / jeans prior to that! Can't remember who the skirt was by but I adored it.

4.Children s favourite item - ds - what ever team jersey he is supporting at the moment Barclona soccer/ Leinster rugby/ . Dd - a blue raincoat (like a crocodile eyes and tail) given to her by her hero her godfather 'for adventuring in'

5.most sentimental item of clothing - me wedding dress .it s a piece of art

6What do you wear now that s most you? - maison scotch jacket (has neon treads through it - the colour makes me happy when I see my sleeves )

7 dress by any designer ? Probably Colette dinnigan - especially her resort collection 2013

  1. What style does not suit you? Office wear and wrap dresses (is that a style? ) oh and andryogenous looks not me either
