me again: am having a bit of me time tonight thank goodness. Thank you everyone Thanks for non-fashion advice re care for DMIL. DH and I had a proper chat about it at the weekend (as it suddenly hit me how exhausted we all are) so we're looking into extra help.

So, back to the serious business of fashion. All of my blazers are too formal and I lack lighter coloured blazers. I am really out of shape so love the security of an extra layer at the moment, and thin jackets seem to slim me down. I love Isabel Marant style blazers but can't afford one unfortunately. What do you think of this: uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_1,mon_1.5/3933731008 it would be the right colour for me I think (I am a very pale Light Summer).

Apparently Millie Mackintosh also has it (and styles it much better than monsoon do on their site) millie-mackintosh.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/march-look-six-top-left.jpg

It is still quite spendy for me and it hasn't been reduced in the sale. I think I might also get away with it in the autumn? I need your views!

Or have you seen a better Marant-alike (I think there were some nice Zara ones too, but I have missed the boat again).

I just tried to catch up with the thread and just to say that negroni I have a large Longchamp Le Pliage in the clay colour which is really versatile. I have had it for years now and it has really held up well.

InMyShreddies · 12/08/2013 19:56

Argnghngh! So the beautiful blue leopard scarf I ordered earlier from Glassworks? I've just had an email from them saying this:

Unfortunately, our warehouse just informed me that the BECKSONDERGAARD BLUE LEPARD PRINT SCARF - BSG10011 has failed Quality Control. We are very sorry but we won't be able to fulfill your order on this occasion.

Wt actual f? Angry

Have any of you ordered anything from them before? I made a point of not linking the other sale before settling on a scarf I wanted to ensure I didn't miss out. Not impressed. I have replied asking what the flaw is - it's 50% off, so within reason I wouldn't mind if it's a small snag or mark. Any advice oh wise ones?

mignonette · 12/08/2013 19:59

Wow, great answers already. It is so interesting to try to imagine you all. I forgot to do my answers so here they are-

  1. A pair of pink cord jeans from a french market stall (class all the way) that I wore day in day out until my Mother cut them up Sad;

  2. Mother wore Diorissimo and Miss Dior, Father wore Jovan Musk for Men in the 80's;

  3. I think it was a Katharine Hamnett slogan T shirt. I also had a Betsy Johnson 'Graffiti' stretch tube mini skirt both bought in London, the latter from Relic.

  4. A pair of Lilac Nubuck leather Kicker sandals in a T bar Mary Jane style bought in Brittany when i was 12/13. I still have them and wear them;

  5. My DD's teenage favourite was a ladybird patterned skater skirt by laura and now it is probably more her Michael Kors blue shoulder bag I bought her. Her childhood favourite was a lilac rose patterned waterproof anorak. My sons is a striped cheesecloth tunic shirt bought from TopMan. He wishes he could find another and as a baby he had 30 hats and wore them religiously everywhere (in bed too);

  6. I am a shoe person. At the moment I so love wearing those pink or navy &Other Stories block heel sandals. They make me feel carefree and a little taller (although I still couldn't reach top shelf in bookstore). My faded red heeled Wrangler ankle boots make me feel cool;

  7. It would have to be Stella for her tailoring, her cultural references and sexy British chic;

  8. Skater skirts and sticky-out skirts/dresses. I feel like a tit in them and worry about my pants showing!

scripsi · 12/08/2013 20:10

Ooh the quiz

  1. a vintage shirt I wore as a teen: I felt like Helena Bonham Carter for about 5 mins.

  2. none!

  3. A Fendi key ring Hmm which was bought as a memento on my first visit to Italy

  4. A brooch passed down to me from my grandmother (I need to start wearing it!)

  5. Both are overly fond of nudity but both DSs do like getting dressed up in blazers for events (and posing).

  6. At the moment, I have a navy boucle jacket which makes me feel relatively pulled together.

  7. Isabel Marant perhaps

  8. empire line anything

OneLittleLady · 12/08/2013 20:13

Hmmm, quiz time

  1. My brown cord dungarees Blush
  2. Mum always wore Coty L'amaint or Clinque Aromatics, don't remember much about my father at all
  3. A pair of Vivienne Westwood purple Nano heart earrings
  4. A bracelet of my mums. It's gold with seven different semi precious stones in it
  5. Anything with Batman or Angry Birds on it!
  6. My various scarves
  7. Vivienne Westwood
  8. Anything 'bodycon'
shopafrolic · 12/08/2013 20:21

A green tulip skirt with red and yellow roses on it from the Next catalogue aged about 12

  2. What perfume did you recall your Mother wearing? Opium
And what aftershave did your Father wear? He doesn't wear any

  3. What was the first 'Designer' item you bought? A pair of black Valentino jeans with my student loan

  4. What is your most sentimental item of clothing/accessory?
My great grandmother's diamond engagement ring and my diamond studs that were from DH on our wedding day

  5. What is your children's favourite item of clothing?
A green striped tee with an elephant on it

  6. What do you wear now that feels the most 'you'/ defines your personality?
    My short hair

  7. If you could dress in any designer, but only one, who would it be?
I don't know enough about my taste yet to answer this

  8. What style/type of clothing does not suit you at all?
Anything pretty, floral and cute or boho

mignonette · 12/08/2013 20:28

Scripsi That is a jacket that I would love. It reminds me in a nostalgic way of the padded Indian print Jackets I bought from the local 'Ethnic' clothing store as a teenager. It is very Marant but the print on close up is reminiscent of William Morris. it will look so Autumnal if you wear it with all those rich colours that you see this time of year.

I found this from ASOS and this that is very similar to the other. this is pretty but not quite what you are after i think.

This Maison Scotch is great. I found this Zara one in their clearance. Debenhams have this blue one and this black Henry Holland one.

Although this one by Emerita is more than you want to pay it is so pretty and this one by YMC is more of a blazer style but great price.

RE the scarf- I think even if you were happy to accept a flaw, the whole batch has been rejected and sent back. You may see them for sale in outlets or even TK Maxx if they accept flawed stock. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask them what they do with the stock or if they'd supply you.

shopafrolic · 12/08/2013 20:35

The twins are here. So much healthier now, eyes alert and smiling a little.

LinusDKD · 12/08/2013 20:47

Too tired to try and catch up but I have done Migs quiz

  1. What was the first clothing item you remember really loving?
My Bonpoint First Holy Communion dress and a pair of Les Copains jeans with red embroidered hearts.

  2. What perfume did you recall your Mother wearing? L'air du Temps by Nina Ricci and a Givenchy one I've forgotten the name of.
And what aftershave did your Father wear? He had the same bottle of Cacharel pour Homme for at least 20 years and hardly ever used it.

  3. What was the first 'Designer' item you bought? A Dries van Noten outfit to wear to a wedding.

  4. What is your most sentimental item of clothing/accessory?
My wedding dress which was ruined by the dry cleaners (after the wedding) Sad

  5. What is your children's favourite item of clothing?
DS 's White Company cricket pj's, DD is a bit too young to have a favourite.

  6. What do you wear now that feels the most 'you'/ defines your personality? My Tod's shoes.

  7. If you could dress in any designer, but only one, who would it be?
Oooh such a difficult question. It's too hard to just choose one as I would need a different one for casual wear, dressy stuff etc.

  8. What style/type of clothing does not suit you at all? Anything too high maintenance, like Victoria Bekham in her Über WAG days.

mignonette · 12/08/2013 20:50

Linus Dries......sigh.......

OneLittleLady · 12/08/2013 20:53

Ladies, where on Oxford Street or very close by is nice for gifts? DP is going to London for work and wants to bring me something small back. He will be just round the corner from Oxford Street so there or very close to it is best for him to shop. Any ideas of WHAT he could bring would also be appreciated as I can't think of anything I especially want right now that isn't massively expensive

Drywhiteplease · 12/08/2013 20:58

dad wears eau Sauvage...I love it!!

Funny to see how different style wise we all are.

LinusDKD · 12/08/2013 21:01

mig I've got quite a bit of DvN as DM used to buy a lot of his stuff about 10 years ago and she gave me her hand me downs.

Unfortunately most of them don't suit me as a) we have very different styles and colouring and b)she was/is very slim and
I am not anymore

When DD starts nursery I will try and do a big cull and see what I can keep and what I will need to get rid of.

DM's current favourite brand is Brunello Cucinelli. I love their stuff but their colour palette totally doesn't suit me. That and the fact that it's ££££.

shopafrolic · 12/08/2013 21:07

One
Selfridges & Co
400 Oxford Street
London
W1A 1AB

OneLittleLady · 12/08/2013 21:15

Grin shop If he could bring me Selfridges home in his bag, I'd happily take it

scripsi · 12/08/2013 21:38

mignonette wow, you've been doing quite some research. Thank you. The Zara one is exactly the one I was lusting after, but it is showing as sold out

I am going to order a couple and see where I get with it. The Monsoon has the advantage of reminding me somehow of my Greek honeymoon! Just realised I have never bought anything from Monsoon before.

LinusDKD I love DvN, sounds like your DM should be on this thread!

  8. What style/type of clothing does not suit you at all? WAG style

scripsi · 12/08/2013 21:57

Those Miu Miu boots sound amazing Marsha. Do you still have them?

MarshaBrady · 12/08/2013 22:02

I kept them for ages but they got holes. I finally threw them out about 7 years after I bought them.

I was in Newbury St, Boston. There was some really nice stuff and I felt high after buying them!

scripsi · 12/08/2013 22:13

I had some Patrick Cox black suede ankle boots (with a silver lining) which I wore until they literally fell part, so I feel your pain!

mignonette · 12/08/2013 22:21

Linus you should maybe consign any unwanted Dries to me to a store selling good quality vintage designer clothing., I like thisDries skirt and this one on Vestaire. Kimono style Dries here looks very current still.

Dries is very desirable. I love the clothing so much along with Helmut Lang. I recall Stella Tennant wearing Lang at her wedding. Very simple with a sheer voile type dress worn over a white knit vest top and skirt shown here.

Is it me or is the Vestiaire search filter the slowest most bloody annoying ever? Saw a lovely Khaki Longchamps tote for only £40 but looks very small to be a tote-only 13 inches?

mignonette · 12/08/2013 22:26

It is awful when a beloved item finally kicks the dust. i find it so hard to throw them out. I have a pair of Miu Miu gold metallic loafers. DH calls them the Nun on a Night Out shoe. They have crackled and lost their shape but i just cannot bring myself to throw them away. Same with an acid yellow patent Marc Jacobs large purse. It has crackled with dirt gathering in the cracks but again, it sits under my bed in a storage box! Shoes and bags are the worst to throw away as they tend to have the most sentimental attachment for me.

Very intriguing, these answers. Especially the 'what designer would you dress in' and first clothing memory. The gap (or not) between what we started off liking and what we ended up with! I should have asked what the last purchase was we all bought.

santamarianovella · 12/08/2013 22:31

  1. what was the first clothing item you remember really loving? a monnalisa dress i wore to my uncle's wedding. white with red gingham trim,i was 8

  3. what was the first designer item you bought? first designer item my parents did not pay for was a philosophy di alberta feretti dress,i was 19,and paid for it by working at an antique shop, summer job.

  4. what is your most sentimental item of clothing/access? tough one! my bulgari earrings and bracelet graduation gift from my parents, and a jacket, first gift from dh

5)what is your children fav item of clothing? a petit bateau dress.

6)what do you wear now that feels the most you? equipment silk shirt
