Good value everyday mascara

I need a new mascara - I have several but none of them are great, and when I look for a new one in the aisles of Boots or Superdrug I am overwhelmed by the hundreds of subtly different alternatives. I just stand there, picking up and putting back for fifteen minutes and then walk out with a tube of toothpaste.

What do you lot use? Preferably not 25 quid Chanel if poss.

loreal million lashes i think its called - gold and black packaging!

Starfighter · 28/07/2013 19:48

honestly I usually end up buying whatever's got the best offer/discount!
just run out of a lovely Benefit one that I paid about £9 and picked up a Maybelline (gel?) one today for about £6.
I used to have a bit of a mascara obsession and spent lots of money of some to find they weren't as impressive as a budget brand!

Generally I stay away from Rimmel as they tend to for clumpy quickly (although they do an ace eyebrow pencil), Maybelline I usually find ok, I'd pushed I'd probably go for Max Factor as my favourite high street brand.

Depends what you're after. I like a waterproof mascara that doesn't flake but is easy to remove with no panda eyes. By far the best for this is Blinc mascara. It's not oil based and coats your lashes with no clumps. To remove you just use a bit of pressure and water.

They now do a higher volume version or there's a primer but I've not used either of these. They do eyeliners too all with the same easy removal.

Retails for £15-£19. But it's so blimmin worth it!

maybelline falsies waterproof

PlatinumStart · 28/07/2013 19:56

Maybelline - they're all great (although I prefer an old fashioned style brush) far better than expensive ones I've tried and I've tried loads

What Binary said, I love Blinc but No. 7 have just brought out one very similar so you can get that in boots. Can't remember what it's called but it is in a gold tube. Also Clinique do one which is waterproof and yet comes off if you gently pull it in a warm shower. Called Lash Power.

spicywalrus · 28/07/2013 20:24

I really rate Boots Natural Collection mascaras, they are super cheap but pretty good.

ThursdayLast · 28/07/2013 20:25

I vote for no 7 too, I recently bought the waterproof one because I could use my advantage points!

But it's pretty reasonable, about £11 I think - although maybe thats not everyone's idea of reasonable

YoungBritishPissArtist · 28/07/2013 20:27

I really rate the Aldi one, it's about £2.50.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 28/07/2013 20:37

Thanks everyone. I've just checked my three less-than-ideal mascaras in the bathroom cabinet and they're all Rimmel as it happens so that's probably where I was going wrong - I adore their nail varnishes but mascara is clearly not their forte.

I've not got an Aldi, but will check out No 7, L'Oreal Million lashes and Maybelline to see which is on the cheapest deal cheapskate

Maybelline Great Lash (pink tube - you'll know the one) is still the best IMO. Needs an eyelash curler first btw.

daimbardiva · 28/07/2013 20:47

I've found Boots No 7 Exceptional Definition to be a good all rounder

I love tubing mascaras that never run. I use the LOreal double extend beauty tubes mascara that comes with a red end and a white end. It is the bees knees. As its a tubing mascara it never flakes or runs.

TallulahBetty · 28/07/2013 21:09

Tubing?

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 28/07/2013 21:13

Seconded Betty. "Tubing"? Confused

OP posts:
KosherBacon · 28/07/2013 21:21

Yep. Tubing. more here and here
They are the ONLY mascaras I have ever used that don't flake or smudge.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 28/07/2013 21:47

Thanks kosher - the informative power of MN strikes again. How did I not know this?

I bought the sample size of the Blinc one as I most have slightly rather eyes as my mascara always smudges. I kept hearing it stays put until you wash it off with warm water.

I was really underwhelmed. Yes it stayed put but I just didn't think it was a very good mascara. It didn't elongate, volumise etc I found it to be a very natural look which some may like but I didn't.

Time and time again I go back to the waterproof Clinique one. Think it is the high impact mascara but the one that has to be removed with warm water (despite actually being waterproof!). I re use a wand from the normal High Impact mascara as I don't like those plastic wands, I prefer bristles.

Can't remember how much it is, maybe around £14?, but it stays put and provides good volume and length without being too OTT for day time.

I also bought another mascara recommended on here, it might have been max factor, think it was called 1000 calorie? It was rubbish!

Might try a maybelline or loreal one next.

KosherBacon · 28/07/2013 22:07

SummyUpNorth- Clinique high impact is another tubing mascara. It's great.

ThatGhastlyWoman · 28/07/2013 22:08

Just read that first link about tubing, Kosher. Is says that you can't use it before 'curling your eyebrows'. Afraid that's put me right off...

Maverick66 · 28/07/2013 22:46

My daughters swear by Maybelline falsies absolutely rave about it. I myself have sensitive eyes and swear by Estée Lauder
Projectionist :)

BinarySolo · 29/07/2013 09:30

Yes blinc does give a very natural effect but there is a primer you can buy and also a new formula which gives more volume.
