So I just measured by bra size and I'm shocked, is it right?

I measured under and I'm 34. Well I'm 33.5. That is taut, completely flat to skin.

When I do the lean over measurement (which made dh smirk) I measured 41inches.

Am I right thinking that makes me 34E?

I have teeny (saggy and deflated) bosoms!

Oh yes, would you measure the 30s and the 28 please? I actually measure 67cm (26.5") at the ribs, but according to their calculator on the website I would need a 70FF or F (on the cusp of 70F), but it says that is a 32, and I never wear a 32 it is always too big. Maybe their 32 is different? 70cm is 27.5" so I am confused! Confused Smile

hellymelly · 16/08/2013 15:27

Also how do the pants fit? I am a 10 usually in trousers but often go up one size in pants as I find them more comfortable and less VPL! Is their 10 the same as a UK 10?

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/08/2013 15:29

Their calculator is mince :) I measure 30 and their 30s fit, I have actually tried a 32 and it was riding way up at the back.

Will get the tape measure out later but I suspect the 28s will work

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/08/2013 15:31

Oh the pants are lovely, nicely made, good detailing and don't dig in. I would say they fit true-ish to size, possibly a little big if anything. I'm currently a 43" hip (shrinking...slowly) and their 16 fits very well but I reckon I could actually wear the 14 now. I often size up for pants too, I hate them being too tight.

hellymelly · 16/08/2013 15:36

Nothing worse than tight pants. Even when I was really very slim, pre children, and a size 8 , I still often bought size 12 pants as they felt and looked much better than the 8-10s.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/08/2013 15:44

It's a pet hate of mine actually. Freya does up to an XL pant, which is the size I wear from them. And I'm pretty sure I wore an L even when I went down to a couple of stone lighter than I am now.

I'm slightly unusual in that I'm a 30 back, attached to size 16 hips (very hourglass!) but still, they go up to a 38 or 40. If I need the biggest size pants, what are the bigger ladies meant to wear?! It's the same for a lot of the brands. Curvy Kate pants go up to a size 22, expect they are so small I had to buy them in a 22!

SorrelForbes · 16/08/2013 17:45

toastedteacake Don't cry! I'm a 30GG and I hate all Fantasie bras, they make my boobs do that east/west thing too and they just look really matronly on me.

I have fairly narrow boobs but I don't like Freya either!

I'm currently liking these which are all balconettes (I don't wear any other styles and I find they don't give me the lift and forward shape I like:

Cleo Juna
Cleo Melissa/Bella
Panache Idina Balconette
Ewa Michalak CH styles
Fauve half cups

Other popular half cups are the Curvy Kate Showgirl balconettes and the Bravissimo half cups. Having said that, I struggle with all these as they seem to be too shallow for my shape.

JackiePaper · 16/08/2013 18:14

Could someone help me please? I measure 31.5 round the back and 36.5 round the boobs. I'm currently in a 36D don't see how I could go down 2 back sizes tho...I tried a 34DD on the other day and it pretty well cut me in half it was so tight! Confused

Joycey29 · 16/08/2013 18:16

Loving my 32 F boobs!

SorrelForbes · 16/08/2013 18:22

JackiePaper You measurements suggest trying a 30F/E and a 32E/DD.

The 34DD being too tight suggests that the cup wasn't big enough for you. A 32E is the same cup volume and therefore may not be big enough. You may need to try a 32F.

When you scoop in yout 36D, how much overspill/unarm bulge do you get? If you put the bra on back to front, how far can you pull it from your body?

JackiePaper · 16/08/2013 18:27

Thanks Sorrell, if I scoop then basically half my boob falls out the top of my bra Blush I can stretch the band quite a way too a good 4-5 inches at least. Does the back size increase with the cup size then? Seems like a 32 would be way too tight Confused

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/08/2013 18:35

If the cup isn't big enough, then it steals fabric from the back so the back feels artificially tight. The best way to tell is to put the bra on back to front so you are only looking at the back size - the cups are out of the equation

SorrelForbes · 16/08/2013 19:03

Well, that's never a good look Wink. As Stats says, get the band right first and then sort the cups - Bra Guru guide here. I assure you that at 31.5" a 32 in most bands will be fine and you will need a 30 in some!

elah11 · 16/08/2013 19:21

Can someone help me with my size please? ! I just measured myself now and am just under 37 inches around ribs and 46 around fullest part bent over like the guide says. I am currently wearing 40 dd which seem to fit fine but are obviously the wrong size? Thanks

elah11 · 16/08/2013 19:21

...

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/08/2013 19:25

elah try a 36gg and 36G. You might also want to try a 38FF and 38G but I suspect the 36s will suit you better

elah11 · 16/08/2013 19:41

Thanks for that , gosh the boobage on that seems huge! ! A g cup?!
I was just googling various bra fitting websites and some of them seem way out?? Loads calculated me as 42 or 44 dd but I am currently wearinga 40 dd which is on its tightest clasp and tbh is a bit loose so I can't imagine how a one with a bigger band would fit?

SorrelForbes · 16/08/2013 19:43

It's because the majority of on-line calculators add 4/5" to your under bust measurement. They are shit!

A 36GG is only 3 cups sizes bigger, in volume, than your 40Ds.

BabyHaribo · 16/08/2013 19:52

I just measured 31 under and 36/37 over so would this make me a 30E???

Currently wearing a 34C but have never really got a bra to fit comfortably Confused

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/08/2013 20:08

Baby I would try a 30E, 30F, 32E and 32DD. The 30s are more likely

SorrelForbes · 16/08/2013 20:08

Try a 30F/E and a 32E/DD.

The cup volume on a 34C is roughly equivalent to a 32D, 30DD.

If you put your 34C on back to front, how far can you pull the band away from your body? If you scoop, how much overspill/bulge do you have?

mootime · 16/08/2013 20:10

I just saw this thread, and have recently been feeling uncomfortable in my bras ( am pg so things are changing). I just measured and am 35.5 under and 46 on the fullest part.
What on earth does that make me. I'm currently wearing a 36G feeding/ maternity bra (underwired).

Please help!!

mootime · 16/08/2013 20:14

Actually just did the maths and I'm not far out am I? Maybe should go up a cup size?

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/08/2013 20:17

How does your bra fit mootime:

if you put it on back to front, how far away can you pull the back?
If you scoop (see upthread), do you have spillage/quadboob (check with a tight top)?
Do the straps fall down?
Does the back ride up?
Does it hurt anywhere - and where?

BabyHaribo · 16/08/2013 20:22

Thanks for that.

Not a huge amount of bulge when 'scooped' but can pull the band a fair way when on back to front.

I am definitely going to try on the new sizes as I've always found bras uncomfortable maybe this is the answer. I've never been fitted always too embarrassed stemming from my mother tell me my boobs were too small for proper bras when all the girls at school were getting their first bras Hmm
