Is this swimsuit frumpy?

Desperate for some help please !

I've had 2 babies in 2 years (younger is 12 mo) and I am dreading the beach holiday in August with entire extended family :(

My size is currently 14/16, my legs have always been big but I used to have a super flat stomach. Now my stomach is very round and 2 c sections later a bit of a pouch has formed.

Last time I was at the beach I'd happily wear a bikini or board shorts with bikini top - as a size 10/12 4 years ago I can't get my head around my current shape.

So my question - is this something a 32 year old should wear or will I look like a frump?

I like it. I don't think it is too frumpy.

Sparklysilversequins · 01/07/2013 21:52

No, it's nice Smile.

Juustanothermnetter · 01/07/2013 21:52

Thanks purple :)
I just keep picturing 2 sil in their bikinis and then there is me.

this has a similar retro feel but with less frumpage. There have been a couple of threads recommending it.

I have an Esther Williams one which I love, so very flattering. TBH I think the trick is to go for something bold and style it out rather than sticking to a plain block colour and trying to hide.

Juustanothermnetter · 01/07/2013 21:53

Thanks sparkly .

I think i may buy it :)

Mrs - yes I thought that but have bought and returned 4 from m&s and debenhams they had bold print and I looked awful!

Although there is a peacocks down the road it's definately worth walking down tomorrow :)

I'm not keen and think it is frumpy but think the one MrsLettuce has linked to is lovely.

MrsLettuce · 01/07/2013 21:57

It might work - depends on the quality of the fabric really when there's no detail to detract.

THis is mine but they do loads

MrsLettuce · 01/07/2013 21:58

The red is significantly better than the navy though.

noddyholder · 01/07/2013 21:59

I have decided those retro swimsuits only don't look frumpy if you have an amazing slim figure. Then they look cool, and ironic but slim people don't want to wear them. And the sort of person who is attracted to them (as they think they will cover a multitude of sins) will look frumpy in one!

dexter73 · 01/07/2013 21:59

That is lovely too MrsL. The problem I have with the skirted one is that I have only ever seen quite old people wearing them and you are a mere baby at 32.

Its not frumpy. I love skirted swimsuits. I have this one,

I think the swimsuit models are all wearing them a size too big, which makes them look a bit frumpier in the pictures than they do in real life.

piratecat · 01/07/2013 22:03

i really don't like it. The Peacocks one is ace, i know someone who has it, and is a 16-18, and it's flattering and the print one is fun.

I'm going to try one on too!

THe EW ones have good stomach control, which is a bonus. I feel fab in mine - it's a long time since I've felt that way whilst semi-naked in a public place.

What ever you go with, a good sunhat and some lipstick will really help.

BuntyCollocks · 01/07/2013 22:27

I love the ones from for Luna. I think they're esther Williams. SO flattering.

ihearsounds · 01/07/2013 22:29

Peacocks sell similar to the one in the op, with various control built in. But try them on first. The skirt bit is a bit long, and for some reason legs look bigger. Least mine did.. Instead I went for the tankini which also has control, and wasn't as low cut.. The matching pants weren't that great because of the cut, but works with swimming shorts.

If you like the idea of the skirts, amazon stock them as separate, and not as long as the peacock costume thing.

Startail · 01/07/2013 22:36

The surfdome Seafolly one is beautiful, but I draw the line at any swimming costume that costs more than £35 and generally just wear my ordinary speedo costume holiday or not. Since I swim more than I sunbath, practical wins.

sussexmum38 · 01/07/2013 23:21

Definitely prefer MrsL's choice. Might have a look for myself.

emmameghan · 02/07/2013 07:28

I used both a swimsuit and bikinis last year in majorca. I treated myself to a Boden swimsuit, I had lots of compliments on the beach Not frumpy at all :-)

crumpet · 02/07/2013 07:36

I'm afraid a skirted swimsuit says to me "look at me, I feel fat and I'm trying to disguise it" - which would make me look more to see what it is you are trying to cover up.

Forget the hiding thing and just look for a swimsuit you really like
