Is this swimsuit frumpy?

Desperate for some help please !

I've had 2 babies in 2 years (younger is 12 mo) and I am dreading the beach holiday in August with entire extended family :(

My size is currently 14/16, my legs have always been big but I used to have a super flat stomach. Now my stomach is very round and 2 c sections later a bit of a pouch has formed.

Last time I was at the beach I'd happily wear a bikini or board shorts with bikini top - as a size 10/12 4 years ago I can't get my head around my current shape.

So my question - is this something a 32 year old should wear or will I look like a frump?

I agree with Crumpet. Find a swimsuit that suits you rather than covers you up. Wear with a smile and confidence and you will look great.

OP, I think its cute & sexy (Marilyn/Ava Gardner vibe). I want one! GrinTrying to not spend just now though, if it was black I'd be sold on it.

I wear tankini, vest/shorts combo, am size 14. I prefer bikini line & tummy to be covered.

im sure people can see whether youre fat whether you wear a skirted one, or one that covers your arse cheeks.

I actually chose it because it just about covers up some nasty self harm scars on the top of my legs, not because I think im fat, but a bit strange to think that people would be thinking hahaha she thinks shes fat, let me check out what shes trying to hide.

I think it's frumpy, sorry.

You don't mention what your top half is like, but have you checked out Freya's range of swimsuits? If you are large of boob, they get your boobs well supported and in the right place, making you look slimmer overall. I love mine.
As they're so supportive, Freya costumes are also great for running about on the beach without feeling like your boobs are going to smack you in the face...

How about this one? It works the 50s vibe, a little like the one you suggested:

I wear the Seafolly boyleg swimsuit suit in gingham, not because I'm fat but I have a skin condition which means I can't defuzz my bikini area. The other option I use is surf shorts and a bikini top.

It really doesn't matter what other people think - but if exposing flesh makes you feel uncomfortable then go for a cover up.

Branleuse · 02/07/2013 12:04

i think frumpy depends on the rest of your look and your attitude.

I dont think ive ever been described as frumpy in my life

There is a thread in Chat about swim suits, there are good links on there and the suits in "Very" are flattering and stylish.

Awful, and it screams, I'm fat and trying to hide as much flesh as possible. You would look far better in a contoured swimsuit, I never wear bikinis as I have a small belly and more hated are my stretch marks so swimsuits all the way and they are even nicer looking than bikinis, avoid the skirts, they do nothing for anyone.

FarleyD · 02/07/2013 17:50

Birds - is the thread in chat recent?

HoneyandRum · 02/07/2013 17:53

I'm completely the opposite to some posters and believe in investing in a great cossie that makes you feel good. I have a selection from a Dutch company called Cyell but this year I didn't like the fabrics and have splashed out on a suit from Seafolly.

I have slowly been shrinking back from a size 16 to a 10/12 after three kids. I still have a tum and some generous thighs as well as size 34Ds so I need some boobage support. I have not found a cheap suit that does a good job. I'm not personally keen on skirted suits etc. as I think they are aging and as others say can draw attention to you more than you intended.

If you have nice boobs find a suit that gives you an hour glass figure and accentuates your boobs (not in a way that's embarrassing).

I got the Seafolly Goddess Indigo Maillot which is a one-piece with great material and covers bumps while covering enough boobage.

Other thread is in AIBU here, think OP has asked to move to S&B

Follyfoot · 02/07/2013 19:50

I've got this one, its really lovely on, and I dont give a bugger if anyone thinks its frumpy, it doesnt feel it Grin

Onetwo34 · 02/07/2013 19:58

I think the first one would look frumpy on anyone who wasn't 19 and a size 10 or below.
I like some of the others though, normal costume shaped with support is the way to go I reckon.
