A well fitting, smart/sexy and preferably push-up bra size 38A... impossible???

I am sooo fed up with trying to find a well fitting bra, preferably nice looking and adding a bit of "volume" in my size...
I'm starting to feel like a freak!
Am i really the only person in the world with really small breasts and a slightly larger ribcage?
Every bra I find is either too tight around my chest or has gaping cups. I need a wired one as any others leave me looking completely flat-chested.
Any suggestions of shops or online retailers would be greatly appreciated!

Will do, thank you, and Debenhams have a sale on too so i'll have a look there too! I'll pop back with dd's sizes when i have them hope that's ok :)

harmonyuk2005 · 29/06/2013 16:58

Another quick question having had a fleeting glance at the links, are you positive my boobs will stay put in a plunge bra (haven't managed to before!) thank you have seen a few i really like and will place an order today! :)

SorrelForbes · 29/06/2013 17:01

I struggle with plunge styles as I always get overspill as my boobs don't like to stay in the cups!

Your boobs sound like my sister's and she has this plunge bra from Debenhams and also likes the Cleo Juna which is a balconette so don't discount any styles just yet.

tootiredtothink · 29/06/2013 17:03

I've not come across these threads before because style and beauty scares me any chance of doing me StatisticallyChallenged please?

43" under boobs, 54" hanging down -as they do even in bras nowadays Blush. Currently wearing 42DD.

harmonyuk2005 · 29/06/2013 17:07

Lovely thank you, have just opened up a balconette on the site link you gave, can also see a cleo juna on there which is lovely. Do you have an opinion on the lepel bra's as there's some pretty one's in sale too :)
(DD back now so going to chuck a tape measure at her!)

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/06/2013 17:10

tootiredtothink start with a 42HH BUT be prepared to go down in the back from there. It's very common for slightly larger ladies to need a smaller back size (and therefore bigger cup size) than they technically measure in order to get enough support. The band needs to be sitting quite firmly to give enough support, plus the longer band can stretch further (in absolute terms) - so don't be scared to try maybe a 40J too, and work from there

SorrelForbes · 29/06/2013 17:10

The Lepel Fiore is a nice bra but that's the only Lepel I've ever worn. The Lepel Constance is a nice plain full cup.

harmonyuk2005 · 29/06/2013 17:19

Ok dd is measured and her measurements are underneath band is 32" and fullest part is 38" what size would she need please thank you :)

SorrelForbes · 29/06/2013 17:20

Tell her to try a 32E for starters.

tootiredtothink · 29/06/2013 17:24

Brilliant, thank you Smile

harmonyuk2005 · 29/06/2013 17:26

Lovely thank you very much, we're both going to choose a nice new (hopefully fitting!) bra now, can't believe the difference in sizes! When my other dd reports back with her size i'll let you know, she's not sure she has a tape measure if not she can do it on her next visit home in a couple of weeks :)

Mmmnotsure · 29/06/2013 17:26

Can I ask?

I hardly ever wear a bra, partly because I feel so uncomfortable in them.

I have just measured, and am 36.5 inches underneath and 42 inches hanging down. What do you think I should be?

I have always worn a 36a. Last time I tried to buy a bra I went into a specialist shop and got a woman who basically said your boobs are too small for anything we have - which still makes me feel embarrassed.

What to do?

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/06/2013 17:31

MMMnotsure - no wonder you hate bras, and that woman in the bra shop should be shot

You are more like a 36E. Try popping on your 36A and doing the scooping described above, and see what happens

Mmmnotsure · 29/06/2013 17:45

Thank you for replying.

Goodness. I would never think the letter 'E' would have anything to do with me when it comes to bras!

I'm now at the age when I really don't think I can get away with going braless under t-shirts, no matter how small my boobs are.

(Please shoot her for me if you like.) In the meantime I will read back on this thread about scooping and find an old bra.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/06/2013 17:47

mmmnotsure, I'm wondering if you are someone who has quite wide boobs (so they go quite far round and don't have much forward projection?)

Mine are a bit like that, so people would never tend to guess they are the size the actually are. It's only when you put a bra on and scoop them that you suddenly see how much boob there actually is

sub17 · 29/06/2013 17:47

Currently wearing a 34A but just measured, am 30.5 underneath and 36 across, anyone have any ideas with what i should try?

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/06/2013 17:49

sub17 - prepare to faint, then try a 30E to start with :)

sub17 · 29/06/2013 17:52

aghhgghh.... thanks!!

Wolfcub · 29/06/2013 18:39

sorry I had a little sleep. Thank you for the sizing, will order some to try on.

I didn't try on the 38d in evans because the lady was so disparaging about the empty boobs!

MaybeBentley · 29/06/2013 18:56

Another person asking the experts. Having spent years as a 32AA/AAA I was overjoyed when I finally reached 34A, over the last few years I've put on weight and moved to a 36B (extra fat around ribs and upper stomach rather than too much else where!
But .. just measured and I'm 33" v snuggly underbust and 39.5" leaning forwards. Am I 32/34D?

I love a bra thread Smile I got 'Sorrelled' a while ago and went from a 38C to a 34E! And I thought I was going to need to go bigger.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/06/2013 19:09

33 39.5...try a 32f\ff and a 34 e/f to start

Wolfcub · 29/06/2013 19:11

Well ladies I'm convinced - I just dug around in my drawer and found an old bravissimo 36d - the band fits, snug but I can breathe better than in the 36c wonderbra and I've scooped and the cups runneth over - a trip to the bra emporium is in order
