Holiday make up - what do you take?

Packing for my holiday and I need to decide what make up to take... normally I don't take much with me but DP has said he likes it when I wear dark eyeshadow - so given that and I have lots of different coloured outfits what should I take?

What do you take?

Moisturiser, bronzer, mascara and lippy do the job when I'm away!
Will watch with interest to see what else should be taken Grin

I take loads of conditioners and treatments for sun and pool blasted hair though! Blush

Enjoy your holiday!

Purple2012 · 26/06/2013 19:57

I take everything but never use it all. I generally don't wear make up during the day on holiday but just bronzer and light eye make up in the evening.

Vibbe · 26/06/2013 20:06

I usually take what I use every day - and then add a couple of items for evenings out.

So that would be:
Foundation and/or BB-cream - depending on how my skin is looking
If my skin is terrible, concealer
Powder
Blush - I usually match blush and lipstick, so colours and how many would depend on the lipsticks
Probably a highlighter
Lipsticks - probably 2 or 3
Eyeshadows - my normal one (MAC Grain, which is the same colour as my skin and with shimmer), as well as a dark brown (use it as eye liner and for my brows) and a medium brown.
Mascara

Pressed powder for touch-ups during the day
Brushes and eyelash curler

And then skincare - cream, primer, make-up remover and sun cream

AuntieMaggie · 26/06/2013 20:13

what colour lipsticks go best with red/yellow/jade green?

OP posts:
JamEyelid · 26/06/2013 20:19

I'm taking

A palette with blusher, bronzer and 4 eyeshadows in
Origins Vitazing moisturiser as it's slightly tinted and has SPF
Browzings
Lipbalm with SPF
Waterproof mascara
A translucent powder
A sheer pinky lipstick

mrsspongebob · 26/06/2013 20:34

Hardly anything. I like to have a rest.

Mascara and lip balm, bronzed and may be a blusher.

NoelHeadbands · 26/06/2013 20:37

I take the absolute basics now.

For years I'd take the lot, and for some unknown reason maybe alcohol I'd decide to go a bit brighter with the eyeshadow, y'know, being on holiday and having a tan and all that. Summat a bit exotic- blues, greens, a flash of gold.

Which was fine, until the holiday photos were developed.

Dackyduddles · 26/06/2013 20:38

Chanel pot. Illumiere it's called. It's a brown/purple glittery shade that I use as liner/all over/all round. Looks beyond hot on a tan.

Mascara, bronze. That's all needed!

MelanieCheeks · 26/06/2013 20:40

Very little. A bb cream or moisturiser with SPF. A lovely gold shimmer stick from boots with spf15 that I use in both lips and eyes

TheRealFellatio · 26/06/2013 20:40

I have tons of make-up - I only use a tiny percentage of it regularly, but I still like having it. Grin

I go minimalist on hols. A light foundation/BB cream, a blusher, an eyeliner, a mascara, maybe one small eyeshadow palette in my signature boring greyish brown, one or two lipsticks, one lip liner, one lipgloss.

These days I use a cream blusher so I don't use a brush, so the only brush I need is for the eyeshadow. which I probably won't even use but I like to take it just in case.

TheRealFellatio · 26/06/2013 20:43

Noel I know what you mean - you don't realise just how lobster-like your face is until you see the photos. You think you are all golden and sunkissed but actually you look a bit burnt and tacky. It's best to have an absence of colour and just stick to lipgloss and mascara!

therumoursaretrue · 26/06/2013 20:47

I take a lot! I know it's ridiculous...I do not need this much at all and it's possible to travel waaaaaay more lightly but I have a problem!

Primer
Setting spray
Tinted moisturiser
2 liquid/cream foundations
Concealer
Mineral powder foundation
Cream contour
Powder contour
Cream blusher
Powder blusher (2 colours)
Cream highlighter
2 eyeshadow palettes
2-3 single cream shadows
2-3 lip liners
4 lipsticks (a natural, a coral/orange, a red and a pink)
4 lipglosses
Kohl liner (3 colours)
Gel liner (black)
Mascara
Plus a full brush roll - with about 15 brushes.

During the day on a beach holiday I wear:
Tinted moisturiser
Cream blusher
Mascara
Lipbalm or gloss
Coloured liner

NoelHeadbands · 26/06/2013 20:49

Yy Fellatio, lobster forehead, glow in the dark nose, peacock-tail eyes, all finished off with a dusting of metallic bronzer.

And I thought I looked the beez kneez!

Lizzylou · 26/06/2013 20:52

Take more than I use.
Normally only end up wearing waterproof mascara, bit of bronzing powder to tone down the redness and a lipgloss. Evenings only Blush

AuntieMaggie · 26/06/2013 20:55

I have tons of make up too thats the problem!

So I have a foundation/bb cream, loose powder, mascara, bronzer, eye liner.

I have hundreds of eye shadows and lip sticks/glosses. what would be the best colours?

I'm blonde with fair skin that may tan lightly but I'm using spf 50+ so probably not much.

therumoursaretrue that sounds like my kind of make up bag :)

We are going to visit relatives in the south of France and tbh I normally just wear mascara because we don't really go anywhere and everyone else is so casual. But DP wants to have a couple of nights out while we're there...

OP posts:
Karbea · 26/06/2013 21:09

I take everything.

A couple of years ago I found these, they are brilliant for holidays and just getting off the plane.

therumoursaretrue · 26/06/2013 21:16

I end up using it all too! I stick to basics during the day, but like a bit of choice for evening colour wise.

Have you a nice palette you could take with dark smokey colours? That would cut down on space of taking single eyeshadows and give you some choice for nights ou.

TheBookofRuth · 26/06/2013 21:17

Ooh, I've just been on holiday. I took:

  • No.7 tinted moisturiser
  • Eyebrow pencil (I have dark hair and light brows, my face looks bald without it)
  • Two cream eye shadows, one a deep bronze, the other a very pale gold.
  • Peachy-coloured Borgouis cream blusher.
  • Dark brown eye liner
  • Two Chubby sticks, a peachy one and a pinky one, for my lips.

Got in all into a small pencil case sized bag. In photos it looks rather nice, quite natural and sun-kissed.

TallulahBetty · 26/06/2013 21:43

Very little. Concealer, powder, mascara, eyeliner, couple each of eyeshadows and lipglosses.

AuntieMaggie · 27/06/2013 08:45

I've got a couple of BB shimmer bricks I could take that could double up as eye shadows and the UD naked palette.

Karbea I've got a couple of these in Diorissime (coral) and Singuliere (pink) which are really nice (don't last long though but I assume that's because they're sheer)

OP posts:
Umlauf · 27/06/2013 08:53

i always take benefit benetint if nothing else as it stays on when in water. and usually nb cream insted of fpundation. eyelash extensions instead of mascara and a dark brown eyeshadow for brows, liner and eyes.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 27/06/2013 09:38

I took very little.

BB cream
Cream blusher
Black eyeliner
MAC spice lip pencil
Brown lipstick

I usually take one eyeshown multipallete but decided to skip it this year because I didn't want to pack my brushes. Like theRealFellatio says basically. I discovered cream blusher this year, and so eyeshadow became the only thing that still need brushes to apply. It seems a faff to pack so I just ditched them Grin.

And no I don't look like a lobster. I go from pale to brown. Never red. My DD is the same. She's got a really really lovely tan now too, just like me Smile.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 27/06/2013 09:39

Oh and I packed a powder compact too but didn't use it. It felt wrong to have a matt face in the heat somehow. And I was going into the water so often anyway.

2madboys · 27/06/2013 09:55

Take it all usually and use almost nothing. This year I think I will take bronzer, eyeliner, lip gloss and maybe mascara.
