Dry only yes to bags, shoes and lipsticks as they will always fit - clothes won't if weight is yo-yoing.
Anni tears are good too. Keep the Marant boots if you feel good in them and they make you smile. If the other stuff is just okay - send it back. The rain will go away. As my mum always says "this soon shall pass". Always here if you need an ear. xx

In other news - the Dressing Room sale starts tomorrow at 9.30 online and instore, and my Outnet order of necklaces and Missoni shoes are now on their way :)

shopafrolic · 28/06/2013 15:21

Decam that LKB bag is beautiful.
We're stopping at one child, we decided we'd rather have one child who stands a good chance that his parents will stay married, than two and get divorced Grin. DH definitely doesn't want another, and I have no strong feelings either way so best not too for us I think!

mignonette · 28/06/2013 15:23

Keep the boots.

I ignore the 'fashion rules' because as you've found Dry, they are often incorrect. Horizontal stripes do not make people look wide either.

I think ankle exposing can be lengthening because it is a super narrow part of the leg whereas a puddle of fabric at the foot can foreshorten and ill define leg shape. I have always loved an exposed ankle bone-very sexy. It is also the cut of the jean. Some jeans just do not flatter and it can come down to one tiny little difference in seaming and cut. Low rise suit me (not crotch low) because i like that lean long torso when you tuck a shirt in. I will not wear super high waist pants despite their supposedly being flattering for my shape. Flares do not suit me yet sailor pants do!

foxysocks · 28/06/2013 15:24

so many more replies! a few responses...

decam another YES vote for the beautiful pink blouse. shape is lovely, perfect for a christening. would look fab with white skinny/straight leg jeans and a denim jacket too.

I think we are synching! have been bloated all week due to ladies' holiday as it's known in ashtanga circles - you get to take the first three days off from practice in order to rest and recuperate. at first I HATED this - some kind of patriachal dictatorship?! erm NO, I will practice if I want to - but now I adore my extra break to sleep in and relax with my kindle.

anni it's horrid when you feel like that. YY to fresh air, exercise, limit computer and TV unless it's something you can get absorbed it and feel nourished by.... like wimbledon Wink

i don't low carb or 5:2 or anything like that. I eat fresh wholesome food, not too much, mostly plants. I only buy ingredients - things like veg, fruit, fish. brown rice, soba noodles, spelt flours, unrefined sugars. oh and plenty of dark chocolate and wine Wink. if I want a cake or a brownie I make it myself and enjoy every mouthful. never any guilt. daily yoga helps enormously - i used to have an eating disorder and although CBT gave me the tools to gain initial space, yoga has helped me actually move on and leave the old behaviours and patterns of thinking completely in the past.

sleep I love the idea of not getting your DH used to frugality! we have separate accounts and the same amount of allowable 'spends' each month, so I can use mine as I wish.

this month: CE cargos (still in stock here, j crew parka (medium back in stock here! and a theracane!. am calling that a huge June WIN.

shopafrolic · 28/06/2013 15:26

Dry no idea re: cuffing thing on jeans. I think too long, bunched up jeans make legs look shorter as there's too much fabric - you can tell the jeans are just too long IYSWIM. I guess therefore that by cuffing them you give the illusion that your legs are too long for the jeans?
My brother is married to a Dutch woman and in the Netherlands lots of women wear their trousers stopping at the ankle. I always felt strange but am slowly being converted as with a 32 / 33 leg being good on me, ankle stoppers are usually the norm Grin

mignonette · 28/06/2013 15:28

I couldn't have any more after my second CS as i had a ruptured uterus and urinary bladder which destroyed the integrity of my uterine tissue. Cannot hold another pregnancy so chose to be sterilised aged 28. Not sure what I really think about it because 1) I am aware how lucky I am to survive with a live child too and 2) unsure whether I'd have wanted any more anyway.

However pregnant women are so lucky with their clothing choices now. I lived in leggings, stretchy black bodies worn with sweaters/sweatshirts and mini's, carved up jeans etc because maternity clothing was in its infancy in the early 90's as regards anything you'd actually choose to wear.

foxysocks · 28/06/2013 15:28

I am loving ankle skimming jeans atm. my goldsigns do this, and I occasionally roll up my longer j brands to the same length. agree with mig, flash of ankle is lovely.

anni I would keep the marant boots and make them your one sale buy - send back the rest. they are gorgeous and will be so useful - CPW prospect = excellent

shopafrolic · 28/06/2013 15:30

PMSL at the camel toe on photo number 11 of the theracane foxy

shopafrolic · 28/06/2013 15:31

I'm so juvenile. Sorry. Grin

mignonette · 28/06/2013 15:33

Foxy Interesting for me to read about yoga as such a good therapeutic tool specifically for an ED. I might look into that professionally for my work. Did it help you make 'friends' with your body again? Did it reframe that relationship? Please PM if too personal or tell me to bog off with my nosey questions Grin.

Shop great nugget of fashion info re Dutch women. Is that to stop their pants catching in their bicycles (nice bit of cultural stereotyping-apologies)? The women all looked very tall and healthy whenever i visited Holland!

mignonette · 28/06/2013 15:35

Oh boy that camel is a doozy Shop

MarshaBrady · 28/06/2013 15:37

Lol Shop Grin

I always remember thinking that 7/8th ankle was particularly French. I had a French exchange student friend who always wore them back when skinnies were yet to be seen.

I've done various exercise over the years (running and swimming) but not yoga, I think it could be good for me.

I get hit by a jolt on pictures of new born little babies, especially my nieces but then it wanes after a bit. Bad sleep was a killer with ds2.

MarshaBrady · 28/06/2013 15:39

Anni keep the Marant boots! You'll be back on form in no time and they're fabulous.

shopafrolic · 28/06/2013 15:44

YY to cycling Mignon - flapping jeans and bike chains do not a happy Dutch woman make Grin

foxysocks · 28/06/2013 15:51

marsha i think you would make an excellent yogi.

mig yes, all those things. I began to see my body as (potentially!) strong, flexible, powerful rather than a battle ground. every morning in practice I amaze myself - I've learned to do things that at first seemed impossible. yoga is about exceeding your expectations, redefining possibilities, redrawing the 'picture' of yourself and your life. I wish it was available on the NHS! I was lucky - I had a 'flash' in my first ever yoga class of absolute calm. no internal chatter, the monologue (which used to be full of hatred and vitriol directed towards myself) faded away. that's what kept me going back for more. the physical benefits have been a very welcome side effect.

Annianni · 28/06/2013 15:59

That's a camel toe and a half :o

I'd love another child, but I get horrendous spd and was on crutches for half of my last pregnancy and had weekly acupuncture to deal with the pain and enable me to walk (and you DO NOT want to know where she stuck the needles)

And due to an enormous fibroid (that I still have) ds2 was at risk and I had to stop work and rest.

Plus I had to have the most expensive cs that the hospital had done that year ... and I'd need another next time.

shopafrolic · 28/06/2013 16:01

Foxy I so wish you lived nearer and I could have some beginner sessions with you

Annianni · 28/06/2013 16:02

I've ordered a new sports bra... so that's a start.

foxysocks · 28/06/2013 16:02

bwahaha camel toe is ALWAYS funny!

no more children here, this uterus is CLOSED. two plenty - I feel extremely lucky, wouldn't want to push my luck any further and reclaiming my body after 2x pg / 2+ years bfing felt sooooooo good.

foxysocks · 28/06/2013 16:04

shop I would love that too! if you are ever over this way let me know, we can do a little ashtanga workshop to get you started.

link anni?! I am in DESPERATE need of one (really two) new sports bras. mine are so old and mostly holes Blush but I hate spending my precious budget on them! been eyeing up some stella m on NaP and outnet. might as well be stylish as I sweat, right voguettes?!

mignonette · 28/06/2013 16:08

Foxy That's really lovely. The NHS mental health services are getting rid of our mental health physiotherapists so yoga instruction would be a no go.

Any recommendations for good yoga clothing? I bought my dear friend some yoga clothes online for her birthday last year. They were made from Bamboo fibre but cannot recall the name. And absolutely-fucking-lutely to stylish sports underwear.

libertychick · 28/06/2013 16:09

More tales from the coal face of PMT madness....I went into TKMaxx at lunchtime and found a great pair of black jeans, (levis, slim leg, slight curve style). Then high on the thrill of finding the jeans I threw a green satchel, a blue scarf, a pink belt and a cropped blue T-shirt into the bag - handed over card for £76. Went to the cafe next door and had a cup of tea and a sandwich, looked at my purchases and thought 'WHAT THE MERRY FUCK am I doing??'. So straight back into TKMaxx and returned everything except the jeans - which at £30 for a pair of black jeans that fit me nicely are justifiable of on the basis that I don't have a pair black jeans so they fill a wardrobe gap but again will not remove labels until after 'the day'

Great chat this afternoon - some good insights.

Anni it's a hard ask but I think the key to weight management is to stop judging yourself by your weight. Body weight is just a fact about you not an indication of personal worth, being slim doesn't make you 'good', being fat doesn't make you 'bad'. You matter because you are you and I am sure your DH and DC's adore you regardless. You would never in a million years speak to your DC or a friend the way you probably speak to yourself. Treat yourself with same level of kindness and respect that you give to them.

And keep the boots Grin

mignonette · 28/06/2013 16:12

I don't shop when i am feeling blue. LIberty thank goodness the cafe interceded to give you thinking space. I have been guilty of TK maxx madness too but I do not have the excuse of PMS...

libertychick · 28/06/2013 16:14

I bought a shock absorber sports bra last weekend. Really rate them, my last one has been in use for about 8 years!!!

Sleepwhenidie · 28/06/2013 16:16

Marsha in my head I had you down as a yogi after meeting you, no idea why ConfusedSmile. Definitely try it. I have tried a few times but just can't get it. I get into a kind of meditative state swimming laps but otherwise prefer hot, intense exercise that leaves me sort of on the verge of throwing up Grin - kickboxing gives me such an adrenaline rush, highly addictive Smile.

Anni please don't avoid the gym out of embarrassment, seriously, there are two types of people there, the ones just getting on with it and not noticing or judging others and the ones only interested in admiring themselves Wink
