Yes the pink one. So nice!

MarshaBrady · 28/06/2013 13:27

Ah that's very nice QueenC. I bet it was very much appreciated.

Annianni · 28/06/2013 13:29

It's pretty... Decam buy buy buy!!!!!!!
:o

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 28/06/2013 13:30

QC from one Grump to another, I'm with you all the way. Always love Alexa's clothes, but what does she do any more? Rihanna is just beyond yuck. I remember being in the US a couple of years ago and SIL was reading a magazine with a feature on 'How to get Rihanna's look for under $20'. SIL remarked "I'd be surprised if it took $20".

Sleepwhenidie · 28/06/2013 13:40

Hi everyone, what lovely links you've all been posting! Sorry you are feeling down Anni, fwiw I am a fan of low-ish (or at least unprocessed) carb eating too, 80% of the time anyway, weekends I just let loose Grin.

Congratulations on the new baby (and handbag...they are similar!) arrivals - anyone else feeling broody? DH and I keep going round in circles on DC4 debate...is it really bad that not being able to wear any of my lovely clothes for two years a year or so is just one of the things that makes me hesitate Blush?

The frugality chat resonated! DH and I have it from time to time and I go off with best intentions but then it occurs to me that if I do cut back he may start expecting that a general lower level of spending could be achieved all the time Shock - not what we want Grin!

I just got back from watching DS1 in his school play, Guys & Dolls, was fantastic, very entertaining. Rest day from the gym as too busy and I am still aching from a PT session I had with a newly qualified guy I know from the gym on Wednesday, he made me work really hard and I managed to do an unassisted pull up on the bar so am very proud of myself. Target is to do two next time!

Today I am wearing faithful distressed Zara jeans, navy wang vest, maje blue sequin cardi, green glass ball pendant and snakey ballet flats with grey falabella bag. Am about to head to Oxford St for a quick whizz around Whistles (still have that bloody credit note), a leg wax then on to Victoria to passport office. DH won't be back til tomorrow evening, so I need to plan tomorrow with DC's, am thinking swimming then maybe Despicable Me 2 if weather is like it is today.

I ordered a few things from MW yesterday after they made further reductions...
-this dress which I had considered before but saw on a mum at school on Wednesday and it looked gorgeous in RL (she was very blonde and tanned which helped)

  • Joseph jumper, again, I think it looked nicer when I tried it in RL
these crazy leggings - got sucked in by the "seriously flattering" bit in description but we will see Grin
Decameron · 28/06/2013 13:42

Liberty and Anni, sorry you aren't feeling great. Liberty, the blouse sounds very French. Anni, great buys. I particularly like the pink shoes, I have similar and have worn them loads.

Really don't like Grazia any more, I did buy it the other day though as it was only £1. The Mulberry bags were amazing but I can't stomach the prices any more!

My neighbour was just here and said no to the blouse. It's not her style at all! I love it though going to sleep on it. It comes out of the Burberry budget!

QueenC, DD2 has just moved on from Baby Jake to Peppa too, phew.

shopafrolic · 28/06/2013 13:43

I'm here Anni PM away

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 28/06/2013 13:44

Very nice links Sleep - the SbC dress is a stunner.

shopafrolic · 28/06/2013 13:58

Right, waves to all!
I'm going to be a little controversial here - same advice applied to me a code of weeks ago BTW.
If any of you are feeling down in the dumps please don't shop! Especially if it relates to body issues. My exception to this is shoes, bags and lipstick I guess but it doesn't make you happier unless the underlying issues are fixed. Pointless to buy more clothes until you are happy in your skin. Dull I know but as historical sufferer of bouts of depression, and as a serial shopper who got myself significantly in debt in my 20s I'm semi qualified to say it.
Sending big hugs to Anni we're always here to listen - I know this from personal experience after my dramas this week!

No necklaces yet, slower than usual from the Outnet, Monday now I guess. V excited about my Missoni pumps too!

QueenCadbury · 28/06/2013 14:10

shop wise words. It's true-I realised that I often used to go shopping when I felt down about myself and that facing yourself semi naked in bright lights of changing rooms is not a good idea! You just come away feeling worse. Although now that online shopping is so quick and easy it's a bit different.

dec I don't particularly enjoy grazia anymore really. Dh did me a subscription ages ago and I keep on at him to cancel it. It's just like any mag and is the same every week. I bought red and Elle last week when I had my op and they were pretty dire too. Same old, same old every year about bikini diets and fake tans. Gosh, I sound like such an old gimmer today Grin

Well done on the cake Queen

Sleep That Chloe dress looks lovely. The kind of print I go for but I must not buy any more clothes for a while....Sad

Wise words Shop.....The thing to do is to take yourself out of yourself..Get outside into the fresh air, stay away from mirrors, wear lovely perfume, wear lovely textures that 'feel' lovely next to your skin, lipstick is perfect as is a good dab of blush to lift a face and a mood. Lots of liquids, address sleep issues, get help with over eating; there are some good books I can recommend that we use for clients if anybody wants to PM. And a good GP may be able to point you in the direction of help too for eating issues. It takes a long time to incubate an eating difficulty so don't expect it to vanish via willlpower or 'common sense' alone. Don't be a cat that walks by itself-reach out for help and support.

QueenCadbury · 28/06/2013 14:13

sleep no, definately not broody. I have my moments but I know that I could never cope with a 4th. Hats off to you if you do. We went round in circles for ages about dc3. Dh always wanted a 3rd and I was undecided following 2 hideous pregnancies and a bout of pnd. Just as I'd decided definately not we weren't careful enough and she happened! She's definately completed the family though.

Turn your thinking around and think of all the lovely maternity clothes you cn buy Grin

Hmm shop ...." My exception is shoes, bags and lipstick..." I have recently found that you can still spend a lot on these items Grin Wink
Anni I'm glad you're back, was wondering where you'd got to...you and your bricks. Are the up yet? So sorry you're not feeling s good.

My theory is that it's the end of season blues.......now we are entering the fashion wilderness which will last until end August and properly end in Sept when A/W stock is well and truly in. Rain doesn't help either.

I'll second low carbing......I used to suffer terrible indigestion and bloating, completely gone. I think exercise and those endorphin thingies which I thought were an annoying myth in the days when I was a Vogue reading couch potato actually do exist. I also think, even if you don't loose weight, the feeling that you're looking after yourself is a definite pick me up.
And my motto has always been " dress to impress and people will see the clothes not the body flaws". And for god sake don't try to hide the bad bits under loose clothing which I did for years, it only makes you look bigger.

And finally......I gave a big bear hug to a sobbing collegue this morning, I'm always here Smile

P.s Mig you are an awesome and v impressive ice cream connoisseur

shopafrolic · 28/06/2013 14:17

For me walking outdoors, becoming aware of my real life surroundings as opposed to my dream world surroundings. Gardening - having my hands in the soil it eating something I've grown myself makes me feel proud and grounded. Exercise, and being with friends. Talking does help.
Sorry if I sounded a bit fierce but I worry for people who shop for comfort, I nearly lost my home because of it (per marriage to DH)
If I can help in any way please shout, and of course, if you want to keep shopping feel free to shout "screw you Shop!" At the top of your voices Grin
Here's to happy times, great relationships and body confidence for all of us Wine

mignonette · 28/06/2013 14:21

I read British and American Vogue, French Vogue occasionally, loads of food magazines such as Gather, Lucky Peach, CherryBombe...

The Gentlewoman is a fantastic womens magazine, modern and different.

I will browse through Grazia but it is like fast food with aspirations-still leaves me unsatisfied. Rihanna? Emotionally unstable and no fashion 'icon' more like a clothes hanger for low-brow designers. Chung? Try as she might, her recent whiny interview did not convince me that she knows the meaning of 'work' . Just what other then selfie studded holidays and freebies, does she do? What a superficial life she and others like Pixie and Peaches Geldof, Leigh Lezark appear to lead.

And sick of 'street style' features full of Russian 'fashion designers/bloggers/stylists/socialites' with more money than good taste. They all look like they've staggered out of the Vogue clothes cupboard after a clothes bomb has gone off in it. Talk about wearing your bank account on your back...Vika Gazanskya, Miroslava Duma, Elena Perminova- they are all over the online style pages...And then there are the 'inheritance-nepotista's as I call them. Famous because of mummy or daddy. No intention of doing any work other than that which gets them fame and loads of freebies. They never want to become nurses, doctors, teachers, engineers, scientists, business people, secretaries, carers bla bla bla do they?

And I really am not jealous of all their freebies. I am proud that my DH and I earn every penny of what I/we spend. All me, all us.

That's my rant..

Sleepwhenidie · 28/06/2013 14:25

I have to say, possibly more vehemently than other already have, that exercise is probably the best thing you can do. I know you can get stuck in a rut of not doing any or feeling like doing it, but honestly, try to think of it as being as much a party of your daily routine as taking a shower-anything will do, Shred, a run, a walk or gardening, try and make sure you do something every day. For me, doing it mostly apart from the family gives me the headspace and sense of time for myself too. Manage to make the effort to stick to this every day for a month or two and it really will become a habit you feel odd not doing.

Shop's advice re shopping is very wise too.

mignonette · 28/06/2013 14:25

YES to gardening. It is total therapy. I garden a lot and am very proud of my garden and allotment. Gardening saved me a long time ago. Yes to outside. Yes to whatever exercise you can do. Walking/hiking is so beneficial. I used to run a walking group for patients. Out in the car/minibus to wherever we could find, a walk then a picnic/cafe meal. Everyone back happy, tired and present in the World.

Decameron · 28/06/2013 14:29

Anni, forgot to say, I have been using the bag, it was a good buy (DH probably wouldn't agree though). Still lusting after this bag too. I also find low carbing good. Take care of yourself.

Love all the My-Wardrobe clothes you ordered, Sleep. I have no desire to have another baby, two is my limit! I get very grumpy on little sleep.

I've started buying home style magazines instead (even older gimmer :)). I subscribe to Red but just flick through.

I think I've talked myself out of the DVF blouse. For now, of course.

Decameron · 28/06/2013 14:31

I don't know who half the people in Grazia are.

Anni, is there a gym with a crèche nearby? I used to go all the time with DD1, she enjoyed playing there and sometimes I'd sit and have coffee instead of working out, but it was a nice break either way.

QueenCadbury · 28/06/2013 14:32

Another yes from me for exercise even if it's just the school run. I'm really missing not having done any all week. Fresh air really is good for the soul.

Drywhiteplease · 28/06/2013 14:46

shop you didn't sound fierce at all, just sensible.
I'd have loved more kids but just didn't want to have them......

The thing I find weird about Grazia is the mix of fluffy celeb and fashion which I love and more serious, often shocking current affair articles....seems wrong and distasteful somehow.

mignonette · 28/06/2013 15:08

Yes dry Grazia will plop in a double spread on some terrible atrocity or abuse somewhere almost as a guilt assuager then book end it with fluff.

Annianni · 28/06/2013 15:11

Thanks again everyone, you're going to make me cry.

I can't go to the gym, too embarrassed to put lycra on in public.
I do have a treadmill at home, so I've no excuse really.

So am I allowed to keep the Marant boots?
Even though I was/am fed up when I bought them :o

The asos parcel is going back after school.
Couldn't walk though unfortunately, it's pouring down.

Drywhiteplease · 28/06/2013 15:16

It seems disrespectful to me Mig ( btw the blue dress was always my fav Wink )

Back to fashion............here's a weird thing. Was having a try on last night ( please tell me I'm not the only one). I've got short legs, 30" jean is fine on me, and not super skinny either, but when I tried my skinny black jeans cuffed like this they looked so much better than longer and a bit gathered at the bottom. You'd think cuffing a jean would make my legs look shorter I've been brain washed by Shzanna and Trinny is it ankle show? Don't get it at all.anyone?

Drywhiteplease · 28/06/2013 15:17

I meant my legs aren't super skinny....and nothing like the legs in the photo!
