High waisted jeans advice please?

Nightfall1983 · 22/06/2013 22:32

I've given up pretending I'm going to loose weight imminently (I'll hopefully feel more motivated when DS starts sleeping better) so I need new jeans.

I live in my jeans. I'm a size 16 SHORT (I'm only 5'4"), I have a serious mummy tummy which I never used to have - I've been heavier in the past but I guess that's what giving birth does to you (DS is 9 months), so I think a high waist would help to hold it in as it tends to flop over the band of low-risers :( Also I spend a lot of time sitting on the floor with DS and my current jeans of whatever size/fit tend to slide down my bottom after a while...

Any suggestions? I don't know for a budget, I wouldn't usually spend more than £20 on jeans but am prepared to pay a bit more this time if they are good...

NewLook high waisted skinnies are your friend. Hold it all in and very comfy, but very flattering too. I actually have had compliments on them - and I NEVER get compliments!

Tommy · 22/06/2013 22:42

I have found M&S "Eva" to be a good fit especially round the waist although I might try the New Look ones now!

Nightfall1983 · 22/06/2013 22:44

Excellent - 2 very easy suggestions to try out as NL and M&S are practically next door to each other in town :)

I live in Asda Bum & Tums. Annoyingly they always seem to be oos in most sizes on the website but they pop up on ebay all the time.

SingingSilver · 22/06/2013 22:46

These Eva's are on offer currently www.marksandspencer.com/Body-Shape-Denim-Bootleg-Jeans/dp/B00AZC0QB6

SingingSilver · 22/06/2013 22:46

And come in a 16 short

higherhill · 22/06/2013 22:46

High waisted skinniest here, from top shop, think they are called Kirsten or something. I am 5'4 and reg length is perfect. Lots of stretch in them and very flattering fit, mine are in black.

these are brilliant- I have 4 pairs in different colour and I NEVER buy more than one of something.

ThatVikRinA22 · 22/06/2013 23:15

ive just bought the Next high waisted skinny jeans and was very pleasantly surprised.....2 people asked me if i had lost weight.

i think i will get more....i wore them out for a meal last night. they look expensive, but cost £28. nice colours. very flattering - no muffin top.

OpheliaBumps · 22/06/2013 23:17

I second the top shop skinnies, they are stretchy but not saggy, and a good length (I'm 5' 5")

Paribus · 23/06/2013 01:58

Primark boyfriend jeans for 11 pounds (they have other ones for 13 iirc, but those are vile)- really amazing.

SneezySnatcher · 23/06/2013 07:51

Another vote for New Look. I'm 10 weeks post partum and can fit into my pre-preg NL skinnies as they are nice and stretchy and 'scoop' in my leftover tummy!

PrincessOfChina · 23/06/2013 07:54

The Gap ones are amazing. I had to size downs me everything!

heidihole · 23/06/2013 07:54

Best investment I ever made were NYDJ jeans. Not cheap but perfect. High waisted and flattering.

MorrisZapp · 23/06/2013 07:58

Marks and Spencers is your friend. Their jeans are all high waist unless otherwise stated. Top Shop do good ones but the sizing is v skimpy and the legs very tight ime. I'm a 14 everywhere else but a 16 in TS, and even then I feel I should breathe in!

I haven't tried Next or NL, but have heard they're good. 16 short is a standard size, most large stores should have it.

teta · 23/06/2013 10:07

I wear M&S pull on jeggings as they give a smooth line under clothes and look like skinnies on.None of the M&S jeans look right on me and the Next jeans were awful.NYDJ jeans do fit really well and are worth trying on.

browneyedpixie · 23/06/2013 10:08

have you tried the topshop Jamie or next ones?

browneyedpixie · 23/06/2013 10:08

.... re budget- try instore and then ebay!

5madthings · 23/06/2013 10:11

I got some next high waisted skinny fit jeans a fortnight ago. £28 and they are really lovely.

Nightfall1983 · 23/06/2013 19:18

This is brilliant - thanks all. I'm feeling optomistic about my search now. So I will be checking out: M&S, New Look, Top Shop & Next

Already tried ASDA - look great but none in my size. Gap is where I normally get jeans from but I don't find them to be high-waisted... Will leave Primark as a last resort as its at the other end of town and I tend not to like their fit.

Never heard of NYDJ - just googled and erm no! I could probably stretch to £40 for good ones but not £140!!!

Coming back to this with both a conclusion and a further question :)

I checked out all the stores listed about and still found little that suited me :( I went for M&S EVA in the end which do suit me well though they only had bootcut which isn't my favourite - I see from their website that they do do EVA jeans in other styles so I may try ordering a pair online next time.

Now: How about high-waisted shorts??

m&s or new look for skinny jeans, I usually wear lots of topshop jeans, but only when i've got vouchers of some sort as they have quite a good petite section as i find i want skinny jeans to sit right on my ankles without sagging and lots of skinny jeans are never right for me! But at 40 quid a pair i can't keep buying!
