Have you used the Brazilian Hair Straightening / Blow-Dry Home Keratin Treatment from Amazon?

I have read lots of threads about this kit and people seem to rave about it to reduce the frizziness in hair but I remember reading a while back that some contain formaldehyde and I concerned that this one contains it. I have read the ingredients but am unsure if formaldehyde goes by other chemical names?
Just worried I'll do damage to myself for the sake of frizz free hair.
Any ideas?

Excellent. I will order some before my holiday.

I have to tie my hair back for work though, so will have to time it right.

ok i need this in my life Grin

a few questions... once its on and you dry it in do you need to blow dry with a brush or just rough dry with fingers? i usually dry over a big round brush. do i need to do that?

also, after it's dried and straightened and you leave it three days, does it go really greasy? are you allowed to put it in a bobble? what if it gets a kink in it before three days is up? what if i get caught in the rain?

and also can someone link me to a good sodium free shampoo and conditioner? is the one that's the same brand as the kit any good?

bunch once its on you can rough dry then straighten painstakenly, yes you leave it 3 days at minimum and yes mine went very greasy but it would anyway as I usually wash every day or two anyway. so pick a time that's ok when you are not going out or at work, absolutely no to the bobble you have to keep it as straight as possible as any kinks will stay in. if it gets wet then you have to dry and restraighten ASAP, shampoo and conditioner... absolutely anything that does not have sodium chloride in the list of ingredients... see my post above for what I use ( very successfully)

Grin doin oh yes wise... I did mine 3 days before my hol and was minging travelling to the hotel the night before, could not wait for my morning shower before the flight then spent all day running my fingers through it people probably thought I was slightly weird!

do you apply it to dry hair?

i have a full chunky fringe so i need to dry it in the style iykwim so would probably need to apply the stuff with my hair in the style.

so if i slept on it and it got a kink in and i straighten it again as soon as i get up it'll be ok?

coconuts you have to wash your hair with the special clarifying shampoo that comes with it. Blow dry it then apply the keratin to small sections and blow dry again as you go. It feeks crunchy almost at this stage. Then you straighten it and it goes soft and sleek.

If bits go cranky when you sleep on it just straighten again and you're good to go.

I managed 4 whole days of no washing and the greasiness was not too bad. I did you dry shampoo on day 3 to alleviate it though.

I am very impressed with it.

sorry im being thick here... so you apply it to one section then dry it then next section and dry it and so on? or apply to whole head and dry whole head?

Report

I am also being thick!

Is it a straightening or a smoothing treatment?

If you have frizzy and wavy hair, will it make it permanently straight or give me smooth waves?

Report
Purpleknickers · 31/05/2013 20:36

Mine was applied to small sections and each section dried thoroughly before moving onto the next one. Not the whole head at once.

It's not a straightening product it smooths the hair, if you have frizzy wavy hair it will be smoother and less wavy. It also stop it going poomph in humid conditions or in the rain.

Just to add I did mine last sat, had fabulous and non greasy hair for three days, washed it and fab swishy hair for next two days. Then washed it and was very 'meh' until I realised this morning when I washed it I'd only used salt free shampoo and bit conditioner. This morning I am back to super smooth and swishy, literally 5 mins to dry and just straighten to shape. It's the stuff if dreams for me!!

I have ordered some, expecting to arrive today. I never straighten my hair so I need to pop into town and buy some straighteners. I've hot thick coarse wavy frizzy hair. I think I need ones that heat to 230degrees and I was also thinking I should get wide ones. Anything else? How much do . Need to spend for decent ones?

carrielou2007 · 01/06/2013 10:28

I've bought every type if straighteners all the ones claimed to be 'just lone' or 'better than' ghd's for me none are. My last two pairs of ghd's (taking no chances with my hair if getting caught out!!) we're £80 Grin

Purpleknickers · 01/06/2013 10:30

Well GHD'S are very good but over £100 do a search on here for threads about straighteners I think there was one entitled are ghd's worth the money and posters recommended decent much cheaper options

Good luck

red i have tried many straighteners and imo you'll never beat ghds. if you want to buy them from a salon you'll be looking at spending around £100, depending on which models they stock. you can buy them from reputable online stores for less though. they really are the best.

my first pair of original ghds were 8 years old when i upgraded to the mk4 version. i sold them to a friend and they are still going strong at 11 years old. my baby dropped and broke my new mk4s and ghd replaced for free with a 24hr courier service so as a company they are second to none and well worth the money. they'll last you years.

Wow, all your results sound amazing, no wonder it's got such good reviews on Amazon!

My kits in the bathroom cupboard, I havent been brave enough to try it yet. I can borrow a dryer or get a cheap one.

Just to clarify - I am RUBBISH at blow drying my hair...so a rough dry is ok is it? And the straighteners do all the work?

rough dry is fine, that's what I did, and I put it on all over once I had shampooed and dried then combed through and dried thoroughly before straightening. That's what the instructions said, you will there hours if you do it section at a time and probably run out of stuff, I was careful how I put it on, did that in sections then just combed through to make sure it was all covered. I have just above shoulder length hair and it did me two goes so should be enough for big hair, if in doubt get another. TIP don't buy the full kit get the blue box that's not a starter pack, the only difference is that the starter kit comes with clips and a comb. post back and tell us how it went.
shampoo only has to be free from SODIUM CHLORIDE not sulphates see up thread where I said what I use.

at the moment boots have got two for £5 on tresemme and they have a specific keratin treatment shampoo and conditioner included on the offer. it is sodium chloride and sulphate free.

Ooh thanks. I think what'll do is wash it the shampoo, let it dry, straighten it with the ghd, THEN put the stuff on, blow dry each section and straighten eleventy million times, does that sound ok?
It will be less " big " and i think i,ll get it all covered.
