Oooh, I have that book! I may have to give it a whirl. With the dark choc fudge icing, of course!

wilbur · 13/06/2013 14:59

Ooh, I want an ice cream maker Envy. Although I should wait until the mythical new kitchen is here as I have a shelf planned just for things we barely use useful kitchen gadgets.

I have decided not to let dh off the hook about taking the dss to cricket on Sunday, but I will make a cake and let him laze about in the afternoon. He spent all day yesterday on a company cycle ride followed by late lunch on the South Bank, so he's had his jolly this week.

Talking of easy peasey cake, there's a recipe for sticky toffee pudding cake in the Bake Off book I got for Crimbo and it's soooo easy and completely delicious to the point where you could keep eating it until you are sick.

wilbur · 13/06/2013 15:04

Oh yes, I know that recipe - I used to make the orange version loads, what a great idea making it raspberry. The other fab cake in that book is the almond one where you just stick everything inc a block of marzipan in a blender or magimix and whizz then bake. Her cooking times are wrong for that one though - it takes much longer to cook through than she says.

bigTillyMint · 13/06/2013 15:14

Oooh, that sounds yummy too!

motherinferior · 13/06/2013 16:01

My lot didn't like the orange version (I did so ate the lot) but they did like the raspberry, even Fussy Little DD2. I must purchase packed lunch foodstuffs she will actually like Angry

CointreauVersial · 13/06/2013 17:31

MI, that cake looks lush and easy enough for a baking numpty like me.

This is the ice cream maker - basically a mixer with a bowl lined with coolant that you pre-freeze. DD1 has been after one for ages after using one at a friend's house. You can buy expensive all-in-one versions, but this will do the job, methinks.

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/06/2013 18:26

I make the marzipan cake, but her recipe has too many eggs in it. I make it with three, and then the cooking time is right, Wilbur.

We go on holiday this weekend. I have some cream cheese which is about to go has gone out of date. Should I knock up a cheesecake with it and freeze it, this evening? (We could take it with us, but I don't think DH would be very happy about taking a cheesecake on holiday.)

I got an email today, thanking me for my "excellent" job application, and saying they will be in touch shortly "about next steps." Do you think that means another interview? Have interviews tomorrow as well... at least I am getting interviews and not yet suffering from Multiple Rejection Syndrome.

MrsS, are you mad to be cooking the night before your interviews and holiday on Sat? Give them cream cheese sandwiches in the car!
And good luck again!

Ruby, bidding war sounds £££ good!

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/06/2013 22:04

Am freezing cream cheese.

Have too much to do before I go away. Don't want to go to DD1's leavers assembly tomorrow because I will cry (she is making a speech apparently) and I have too much work to do, and the house is a tip. Still have all the admin for the schools to do and pay the deposit for one (by tomorrow) and the term's fees for the other (by next week when we are away, which will mean it has to be done tomorrow as well). Will try and delegate school admin and payments to DH.

Good luck for your interviews, MrsS, and may your holiday be a very relaxing one.

Excellent news on the house front, Ruby. Hope all is done and dusted soon.

Crem, how are things in bonny Scotland? Is your dh feeling better/more sensible?

Very lovely party dress, MI.

wilbur · 13/06/2013 23:08

MrsS - now that's why you are such a good chef! You work out that there are too many eggs in a recipe and I just put what is basically soup into a cake tin and then shout "Cook you bugger" at the oven periodically over the next hour. Hope you are able to delegate some of the sorting and tidying, and that your hol is relaxing.

Ruby, yay re bidding war. Let the EA deal with it and just count the ££. Grin

Cremolafoam · 13/06/2013 23:17

Hi Stropps et al < waves Tunnocks Teacake>
Live from Edinburgh tonight....

Glasgow was amazing and GU laid on a very interesting open day .
Have managed not to kill dh yet despite gritted teeth driving and general arsiness . Dd and dh both quite wearing. Dd changing her mind about subjects every 5 minutes. Dh doing his obsessive key thing. (IT'S FUCKING LOCKED YOU DICK!!!)

Aaaargh could do with wine but am Trying Not To Encourage That Sort Of Thing and our viewing / soaking up information schedule is quite punishing .( looking keen at dawn on campus)

Forgotten how much I love Scotland actually. Has dawned on me suddenly today that I live in a blimmin backwater full of crazies obsessed with flags.Sad

May sign up for random course myself at Herriot Watt just to escape my hideous lifeBiscuit

CointreauVersial · 13/06/2013 23:59

Aww Crem, it all sounds very taxing. Chin up. I'm sure your DD is taking it all in, and the trip will turn out to be very worthwhile.

Wilbur - I'm another one who wouldn't dare go "off menu" when it comes to baking. Surely if Nigella can't get it right.....?

bigTillyMint · 14/06/2013 08:01

Cremo, RL sounds pretty draining ATM, but at least Scotland sounds like it's a hit.

I will be having a bakefest in a couple of weeks due to a gym buffet and comp - wonder if either of those cakes would translate into cupcakes? Or maybe I could do a big cake and take a knife...

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/06/2013 08:21

Make muffins, BTM. The easiest thing in the world. Tell me what flavours you want and I'll send you the recipe. Grin

Blackduck · 14/06/2013 08:40

Hi All,
Good luck today MrsS! You truely are superwoman!

Cremo :( big {{}} - although your descriptionof 'backwater with crazies obssessed with flags' did make me :)

Mum out yesterday - she sounds better than she did, but it's a long haul. I can't get down this weekend andthat is :( but intend to make it mext weekend.

I also will not go off piste when it comes to baking.....so like wilbur I spend all my time opening the oven door and sticking a skewer in a muttering 'another 5 minutes' only for the bugger to burn......

Ruby - bidding war! Oh yes, recall that :) (can you PM details of the 'new' place?? Pretty please :) )

bigTillyMint · 14/06/2013 08:44

Oooh yes, muffins! lemon? Strawberry? Chocolate?! Though it soounds like you've got more than enough on your plate already today. Fingers crossed!

wilbur · 14/06/2013 09:12

Crem - two of my cousin's daughters have been at GU - sounds like a fab Uni. One doing biology/anatomy and got a First Smile and is now off to do medicine, other one is taking a pause as she is probably going to be changing courses. Anyway, they have had great teaching and a wonderful time living in a really cool city.

motherinferior · 14/06/2013 09:30

In answer to the cupcakes question yes, you can make the choc/raspberry one as cupcakes: in fact Nigella has one of cupcakes using cherry jam here.

I am sniggering at Wilbur shouting 'cook you bugger' because I do that ALL the time.

Crem, BD and MrsS, hope today goes OK. I have talked to some v nice academics from GU at various points, btw.

addle · 14/06/2013 12:41

crepey s&b question here - has anyone tried m&s marilyn shape jeans? they are only #12 in the sale and I was wondering ... (they are pictured rolled up with jeans which is how I dressed for much of the late 80s) or would it be really terrible frumpy mistake?
ps another vote for the lovely easy choc. rasp. cake
pps i too know young persons having v good time at GU

motherinferior · 14/06/2013 13:07

Oh yes, I tried those on and rather liked them. £12 you say???

herbaceous · 14/06/2013 13:15

Farking hell. Inspired by talk of M&S jeans, I went on their website. By way of procrastination, I started their 'style advisor' app. A million questions later ? during which I said I liked strong colours, fitted shapes, but didn't like my legs ? the clothes they showed me were pastel, shapeless calf-length skirts and short-sleeve shirts, modelled by 65-year-olds.

KILL ME NOW.
