It's raining now, but was ok earlier. I think he was mostly in a stadium near the coast. I didn't really think about sunscreen today as we haven't really cracked it open this year yet!

bigTillyMint · 27/06/2013 21:18

Must remember to send DS with some on school journey next week! He is paranoid about sunburn after rather nasty sun-blisters in India a few years ago. Not my proudest mummy-momentBlush

CointreauVersial · 27/06/2013 22:12

Anaemia? I had that post-DS's birth and it was utterly debilitating, so I don't think I'm at that stage yet (let's face it, I haven't had any periods at all since November). But this one is certainly getting me down. It is showing signs of finally slowing up, at long last.

I've been giving the HRT serious thought, although I am slightly reluctant to go back down the hormonal route. Dr T said it was once prescribed willy-nilly, then there was a breast-cancer-scare slowdown, and now this has been largely discredited and it is felt to be OK again. But he will only prescribe it if my blood-tests show I am menopausal.

Ruby - I feel your pain. There is lots of give-and-take in this household, but I'm sure you can guess who's doing the giving and who the taking. The DCs watched me struggle in and out with the Tesco delivery yesterday, but only bothered lifting their arses from the sofa when they thought there might be biscuits in the crate. Angry

motherinferior · 28/06/2013 08:39

You can be pretty low in iron - and exhausted as a result - without getting into full anaemia levels. Trust me, I'm a health journalist Grin

Kids and biscuits. DON'T START ME.

MI, if you have a moment could you tell me how you make the chickpea curry mentioned on the slightly stroppier other thread? with dried mango powder? etc. sounded fantastic. thank you v much.

motherinferior · 28/06/2013 19:31

Oh yes! I bought the pomegranate powder (anardana) in local shop, mango (amchoor) in shop in ED, btw; I made a curry using onions cooked till soft, add ginger/garlic paste (I whizzed all up in blender and made lots: other finer women including MrsS just buy the stuffGrin) and ground cumin and coriander (I pounded in mortar and pestle, probably pure affectation again) and ground turmeric (oh and I'd added green chilli with the onion purely because it was easier at that stage), couple of tins of toms, ground in some garam masala and stirred in a a tsp of each of the fruit powers and then the chickpeas (I cooked and froze a load and use from frozen but tinned are fine). Actually all v easy and quick!

Cremolafoam · 28/06/2013 19:40

< salivates>
MI that sounds delish. I may attempt that over the weekend. Hopefully mango powder can be got in our local Asian supermarket .

The elderflowers are in full bloom so its time for our annual champagne making weekend. Grin

Mango powder! I've been looking fruitlessly for that for a recipe I want to try, but I fear the supermarkets of Surrey are the wrong places to be looking. I probably need to find somewhere slightly more "eff-nic".

MI does indeed do a fine chickpea curry.

rubyShockGrin at "carriage"!

Chick-pea curry mango powder found in ED - think I may know the shop - may have a foray later, in-between emergency dash to Sports Direct, gym buffet and camping-party-sleepover-drop-off in the road next to MI!

Had the annual bbq for DD's old primary year group (and siblings/others from different years) last night - quite a shock to see how much some of them have changed/grown from the last one, and great to catch up with all the other parents!

motherinferior · 29/06/2013 09:46

DD1 is grumpy as hell. I do wish, frankly, she would bloody start her periods and at least we would have some kind of timetable for the grumpiness. Angry Especially as in between grumpiness she is absolutely lovely.

CointreauVersial · 29/06/2013 10:59

Period still going. Is it Day 15 or 16? I've lost count (and hope). Angry

Gearing up for DD1's birthday sleepover tonight - I have all the choc raspberry cake ingredients, so wish me luck (I'm not a natural baker).

Tomorrow morning we will dump the tired and grumpy little darlings at the gates of Thorpe Park with envelopes stuffed with cash. They are all 12, so have to pay adult entrance fees, but on the bright side we no longer have to go in with them.

motherinferior · 29/06/2013 11:12

I have DD2's sleepover but all that means is three little overtired overexcited girls...

addle · 29/06/2013 11:23

thank you mi, off to get the stuff - am hoping brixton market will suffice.

bigTillyMint · 29/06/2013 12:07

CVSad Did the GP suggest that nothereisterone (or something like!)? I got it once for a particularly bad episode.
You really can't go wrong with MI's choc/rasp cake! And Thorpe Park sounds excellent!

Got a non-S&B dilemma. DS has been in trouble with his art teacher for arsing about (not a natural artist and doesn't like it, plus teacher seems a bit weak on behaviour control, but that is no excuse) - called DH a couple of weeks ago. Stiff words were had with DS but we had another call this week - it sounds like most of the class were arsing about (teacher took a child out to speak to them) and he and 2 others got given detention. We are not pleased with him. DH has said he cannot go on his EoT trip - theme park. Is this too harsh, crepeys?

hattymattie · 29/06/2013 12:44

MI - I have DS's sleepover - 4 tired overexcited 11 year old boys. We're taking them to the pool and then they will do wii and I hope collapse exhaustedly at 11 ish this evening.

motherinferior · 29/06/2013 16:48

That is quite harsh, BTM...will it do the trick in any case?

I escaped to the charity shops but must go home to the grumpies. Wonder if they've missed meGrin?

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/06/2013 17:23

I am back, hags. Another week would have been nice. Am slumped on bed with very clingy cat (the other one has stamped off on furry trousered legs in a huff and won't speak to any of us). Had a very good time, got a bit fed up with the parasitical friends who stayed for too long, wouldn't contribute to anything money wise, so had a nice free holiday on us. Angry We went out one night, and they gave the bill to Mr Parasite, who immediately disappeared to the loo. DH hissed at me "shall we pay it?" and I hissed back "no we bloody won't, they haven't even bought a bottle of wine since they arrived." It was still there when he came back from the loo, there was a bit of a pregnant pause and he finally paid it. Oh I tell a lie, they did bring us a bottle of gin, which they drank most of.

DH grew a beard and asked me if I liked it - I said, I did, quite, it was like having sex with someone else. Which I think was the wrong answer.

motherinferior · 29/06/2013 17:33

I just told DP that. He rofldGrin

bigTillyMint · 29/06/2013 17:37

Tx MI, I think it is pretty harsh and more importantly may make DS feel even more anti the teacher. And DH
Any other opinions?

Nice to have you back MrsS. I am not a beard liker, but when DH first got his glasses, I made a similar remarkGrin

bigTillyMint · 29/06/2013 17:40

Oooohhhh! Elvis C is on Glastonbury on TV - I didn't know he was playing... memories.... and it looks like a fair portion of the crowd are pretty crepey!

CointreauVersial · 29/06/2013 17:43

Welcome back, MrsS. I'm shocked at your freeloading friends, though - how thick-skinned?!

BTM - if it were our DS, DH would be all for the immediate banning of privileges and I'd be the one letting him off with a stern warning about future consequences. I do think you need to give a warning for big punishments (i.e. tell him his participation in the trip depends on no detentions/trouble during the term), so it's possibly a little unfair.....but then DH says I'm a big softy for not running the house like a military academy.
