We were getting to the end.Smile

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2013 16:05

Really? This Thursday? Is it one of the Summer Concerts?

motherinferior · 12/06/2013 16:12

Next Thursday. One of those endless series of Extra Things that drive working parents to the brink.

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2013 16:17

Well Done them! But not so good for ferrying parentsWink

CointreauVersial · 12/06/2013 16:55

Ruby - I am Envy at the speed of your house sale. Your new place gave me serious house-Envy too.

Just me and the DDs here for the next couple of days, with DS still in Normandy and now DH in.....Leicester. DD1's birthday tomorrow will be a low-key affair. I just realised I forgot about a cake.

motherinferior · 12/06/2013 18:00

Ooops, CV, but better now than tomorrow?

My babysitter has just fallen through because she has won a Young Journalism award. Am torn between congratulating her and pointing out that a bright clever girl like her should really be aiming for a Proper Job.

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/06/2013 19:54

Don't speak to me about extra things that drive mothers parents to the brink. Have just been up to the school for sports presentations, tomorrow was to be DD2's Literary Festival (at lunchtime!) but the train strike means I won't be able to go. On Friday morning we have the Leavers' Assembly and Friday evening is the Young Authors Fiction Festival at the American Library (DD1 is a finalist). I have to squeeze a job interview in between these last two. And tomorrow I have to apply for more jobs in case I don't get either of the two I am interviewing for on Friday...

motherinferior · 12/06/2013 20:09

Oh god that is total pants, MrsS. I have found another venal teenager. The thought of a few fivers tends to flush them out Grin

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2013 20:34

Well, I survived DS's Parents Eve. JustConfused

Tensions are still high on the BB front...

MrsS, you do sound rather stretched. But Good Luck for Friday - will have everything crossed for youSmile

MI, is Journalism not regarded as a proper job now? Or is it the babysitting?

CV, get your apron out!

motherinferior · 12/06/2013 20:50

BTM, journalism is what you might call a bit of a dying trade, I fear. I just hope it lasts a bit longer than I do

herbaceous · 12/06/2013 22:08

Me too, MI. I think I may move sideways into copywriting. Or comms. Or teaching. Or being a personal shopper.

DS had his parents evening too. Totally glowing. He's the only one that can read, has loads of friends, and is very good. His only fault is being unable to take pride in his own work. .

Coupled with the note in his folder that said 'X was looking at a book called 'I Live You This Much'. He said to himself 'I live my mummy so much'.

And he was a total angel all afternoon at the eye hospital.

Didn't stop me wanting to kill him when he refused his dinner, mind you.

CointreauVersial · 12/06/2013 23:07

Aww, Herbs, he sounds like he's doing very well. I didn't come away from DS's Y8 Parents Evening with such a glow.Hmm

Speaking of DS, I took a call from Normandy this evening. A vision of DS being sent home from the school trip in disgrace was the first thing to flash through my mind, followed shortly after by a wave of motherly concern for his wellbeing....Blush It turns out the poor lamb has stubbed his toe leapfrogging his mate on the beach, and needed painkillers and a bit of strapping. I think he'll survive.

Put my apron on, BTM?? You are kidding. I have time to get to Sainsburys tomorrow.

Blackduck · 13/06/2013 08:46

Hello all

I am broadbandless at home so not getting the chance to get on here much.
Glad to hear everyone is okay (if busy)
MrsS - good luck for Friday (everything crossed here)
Herbs - fab news re ds, I am proud of ds who along with two others wrote a school song to the tune of 'I'm a Believer' - which is really rather good (glows...) - dp is thinking of asking it he can go in a get some footage to knock up a video...

Hideous time at work at the moment - I am alternating between wanting to burst in to tears, or murder one of my team members....

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/06/2013 08:59

I'd find murder more satisfying, I think, BD.

beachyhead · 13/06/2013 09:04

I think murder first, then tears....they might let you off then.

Could someone please explain where the summer has gone? dd1 off to the IoW festival today and we may have to swing by Milletts for this

Blackduck · 13/06/2013 09:15

Luckily she isn't in today so I can not think about it.....

We are forecast 30-40 mile winds here...

motherinferior · 13/06/2013 10:54

oh GOD when is Father's Day??? Is it this Sunday, talking of cake? Must go and get Yoda cake at Sainsbo's...

herbaceous · 13/06/2013 11:46

It is indeed this Sunday MI. DP will be in Sierra Leone, of all things, which gets me minorly off the hook.

DS chose him a card in Sains yesterday. It's a cartoon, featuring Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson. It was highly unsuitable in very many ways. And thus most amusing.

motherinferior · 13/06/2013 12:01

If you were Mr Inferior - whom you have met, of course, the bloke flitting around filling up glasses in attentive manner - would you prefer a Bought Cake with Yoda on it, or a home made chocolate raspberry cake?

herbaceous · 13/06/2013 12:08

I'd like both, please.

CointreauVersial · 13/06/2013 12:56

Home made, of course. What kind of lazy, uncaring individual would dish up a shop-bought cake to a loved one? Wink

I was up early doors as DD1 requested breakfast in bed Hmm for her birthday. She was very pleased with her gifts, and we are all looking forward to her testing her new ice cream maker.

Yes, Father's Day this Sunday. June is a nightmare for me, as DH and DDad also have June birthdays. Fortunately this year I am seeing the old codger in person, as we have Aunt's 70th Birthday Luncheon (whoop whoop). DCs are not invited, so the rest of the family will be enjoying a damp football tournament without me.

hattymattie · 13/06/2013 13:05

Dépends if he's a crazy Star Wars fan in that case Yoda. Personally home made chocolate raspberry cake.

motherinferior · 13/06/2013 13:07

Hatty, he is a total Sci-Fi Geek. (I have not quite shared with him the fact I snogged all the way through the first SW fillum and never quite caught up ever since.) I reckon Yoda would hit the spot. I could of course make both Grin as the raspberry cake is easy as an easy thing.

bigTillyMint · 13/06/2013 13:08

Homemade raspberry cake, definitelyWink

I don't think I will be mentioning Father's Day to the DC - am not feeling particularly well-disposed towards the old dinosaur who is actually 4years younger than me him ATM

Ice-cream maker sounds impressive, CV!

bigTillyMint · 13/06/2013 13:09

Recipe please!

motherinferior · 13/06/2013 13:12

I ice it too with a dark choc/fudge/butter icing (melt it all together and slosh it on).

Mind you having weighed myself yesterday perhaps I should finally slow down on the eating and drinking front Blush
