Bra intervention - have I got this right?

Wenchelda · 06/05/2013 14:02

Hi - I'm new, hope its ok to come straight on with a question....I Somehow stumbled across one of the bra intervention threads a couple of weeks ago and have been following them in amazement ever since.

I've always worn an A cup (32/34 pre pregnancy, currently 36A) - never been measured professionally but always done it myself based on the "add 4 or 5 inches" rule. I have pretty much constant back ache and neck pain but never ever imagined this could be caused by boobs as they really are so tiny!

But after reading your fascinating threads, I think I should be a 30/32D! My measurements are 31 under bust, 35 at fullest point when bending over to 90 degrees, and 34 above. Have I got that right? If so I am truly truly in shock that my almost-not-there boobs are a D!!

Thanks

Can I ask for some help too?

I have measured under at 32.5 and over at 39.5, currently wearing a 38C although not very comfy.
Am I right in thinking that I should be in a 32E? Seems a bit off!

SorrelForbes · 25/02/2014 09:28

Actually you need to try a 32F and a 32FF. I suspect the 32FF will be a better fit in most bras. The cup volume of a 32F is equivalent to the volume of a 38DD. Are you getting quadboob in your current bra?

SorrelForbes · 25/02/2014 09:29

Sorry, that should be: equivalent to the volume of a 38D and therefore a cup bigger than your 38C.

pickles184 · 25/02/2014 09:35

Always wore a 36D before having my dd, but since my boobs seem sort of empty and the band was digging in so I thought going up a back size and down a cup would help. Evidently not!
Strangely though no I don't have quadboob happening, the cup is filled, but don't seem squashed, am I measuring wrong?

SorrelForbes · 25/02/2014 09:49

No, you may well need anything from a 32E to a 32Ff depending on style and brand. Where do the sides of the wires end on your 38C?

When you're trying on bras, make sure you test the band first by trying it on back to front. If it fits (i.e. you can only pull it away from your body by about 2cm) then take it off, put it on again the right way round and then sort the cups.

pickles184 · 25/02/2014 10:09

I will try that, thank you!

The wires end a few inches down from my armpit?

SorrelForbes · 25/02/2014 10:18

Ok, they should end about central to your armpit. Any further in towards the body and they won't be enclosing all the breast tissue. On the other hand, they shouldn't be so long that they reach around to your back!

chipsandpeas · 25/02/2014 12:24

thanks will give a 34 E a try

Can I ask for some advice Sorrel/Statistically?

I wear a 28G - was 28F/FF pre kids but have been measured post-breastfeeding about 9 mths ago by Bravissimo.

But just been to see my physio as I've been having terrible back pain & she thinks some of the tightness round my back may be caused by wearing a too tight bra as the straps are leaving marks on my back.

Am wearing a Freya balcony bra today - a Dionne - & was wondering if you could recommend a different style?

Most of my bras are Freya as I like the way they look - have never got on well with Panache.

Can't measure cos am at work but FWIW think my size is correct.

IamGrimalkin · 25/02/2014 14:04

I'm really hoping I do need a 28d because the only 28c bras I can find are for teenagers. Blush

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 14:16

I won't say it's impossible but it is unlikely. Bras which are too loose are generally the cause of back pain as your shoulders take the weight and so you end up hunching forward
Red marks are a red herring-what happens where the elastic of your socks or the top of your jeans lie-red marks. Normally physios encourage well fitted bras so I am a bit unsure about this one

That said there is a lot to be said about experimenting with different brands to see if one suits better. Funnily enough I am wearing a Freya today and the red marks are worse mot because of tightness but because the edge of the band has quite a rough trim.I don't get on with normal panache but I do like Cleo especially their unpadded balconettes like marcie
Have you tried any bravissimo branded like the alana-one cup up from your Freya size.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 14:17

Mimi holliday make some grown up 28c

Stokey · 25/02/2014 14:30

Thanks Statistically - I do have one Bravissimo one - not sure which brand it is ... it's bright pink (prob doesn't help), shop assistant described it as "hello boys"!

Will check when I get home & maybe try & wear tomorrow & see if I still have the lines.

IamGrimalkin · 25/02/2014 14:40

Thank you statistically I will have a search.

IamGrimalkin · 25/02/2014 16:52

I have just ordered this but in my haste I ordered a 28D instead of a B or C.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 17:48

Your measurements suggested a 28C anyway, which is only a start point, and I think when I tried Mimi once before they ran a touch small.

That's very pretty - although it doesn't fit the chuffing model!

SorrelForbes · 25/02/2014 17:50

Oh my eyes! That bra doesn't fit at all!

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 18:01

I know, it took me a minute to realise that I think her nipples (possibly airbrushed a little) are poking out!

SorrelForbes · 25/02/2014 18:11

Look at the side boob in this one! Poor model.

What is this one meant to be doing exactly?

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 18:25

Oh dear god. That first one is what, 3 cup sizes too small probably? At least two I would say. The second isn't doing much, but at least the wire isn't sitting on her breast tissue.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 18:26

I think the blog needs updated. A new "bad bra advertising" article perhaps?? Wink

IamGrimalkin · 25/02/2014 19:02

Thank you for reassuring me. I did phone them to sort out my order and they were very helpful. It will be easy to return it if it doesn't fit. I hope it does because they didn't have many left!

I noticed that it doesn't fit the model.. see.. I am learning :-)

chipsandpeas · 06/03/2014 18:22

thank you ladies, just bought a 34E bra out of primark and tried it on and it fits so much better
my bank account will now hate you all as i will obv need to buy new bras Grin

arleta66 · 08/03/2014 14:22

Hi everyone, I have had some good advice on here to get my correct bra size, have got a couple of nice bras form Debenhams 34ff, does anyone know how their sizes compare to m&s ? I know that m&s are not brilliant for larger cup sizes but I can not find a pretty (not black nude or white) nice bra and pants set that is cotton anywhere else! I was previously wearing a 36 e m&s. I order online as I have M.E. and trying stuff on in store too exhausting, you know what its like trying flipping bras on ladies!!

Dillydollydaydream · 08/03/2014 14:31

Can I please check some measurements oh Wise ones?
I'm currently wearing a 34c bra but it doesn't seem a good fit at all, it's on but not doing much by way of support!

My underneath measurement is 30 and over measurement is 36/37 depending on whether I flatten the nipple area Blush tmi.

So is that a 30dd? Seems rather different to what I'm wearing.

TIA
