Bra intervention - have I got this right?

Hi - I'm new, hope its ok to come straight on with a question....I Somehow stumbled across one of the bra intervention threads a couple of weeks ago and have been following them in amazement ever since.

I've always worn an A cup (32/34 pre pregnancy, currently 36A) - never been measured professionally but always done it myself based on the "add 4 or 5 inches" rule. I have pretty much constant back ache and neck pain but never ever imagined this could be caused by boobs as they really are so tiny!

But after reading your fascinating threads, I think I should be a 30/32D! My measurements are 31 under bust, 35 at fullest point when bending over to 90 degrees, and 34 above. Have I got that right? If so I am truly truly in shock that my almost-not-there boobs are a D!!

Thanks

I am usually a M&S 34D. Measuring this leaning forward way, I am a 32FF Shock

Can that be right? Can you even get FF bras?

N0tAMumYet · 23/02/2014 00:09

Some help please :)
I normally wear a 32C or D and they seem quite comfy, reading this makes me question if I have the right size!
With a tape measure I seem to be 29 on the chest and 35 over the bust.
That seems to come up rather a different size to what I believe I am!
I wear a clothing size 8, if that helps.
Thank you!

BirthdayMuppet · 23/02/2014 07:53

You're not far off NotAMum, maybe a cup size out. Try a 30DD and E. I suspect the E will be best.

Hi ladies

I did do this once but couldn't find my thread so I'm back! Can anyone help? I've measured 45.5 (cups?) and 33.5 (under breasts). That's huge isn't it? Hate them.

Any recommendations where I can get cheapish but good bras? I'm trying to lose weight so don't want to spend a fortune yet. Also, where can I get good sports bras?

Thanks!

SorrelForbes · 23/02/2014 09:02

Grockle Yep, 32FF is a very common size (apart from in some stores like M&S and Next where they leave out the double letters!)

peaz Id try a 34HH/H and a 32H/J and similar size.

Brastop, Leia Outlet, My Curves & Me and Amazon are all great for bargains!

BirthdayMuppet · 23/02/2014 09:10

It's not huge, large, but not huge. Try 34HH to start with, and 32HH & J as well. I'm a 30HH, do mine are proportionately bigger on my frame than yours, good sites for cheap bras include brastop, my curves and me, and leia, I think it is. Don't discount ebay either, I've had some new and nearly new stuff from there for practically pennies. Sports bras you're looking at Panache Ultimate, it's amazing and can be picked up new on ebay for around £20. Doesn't come in a HH but I think the 34H would be fine.

MrsA2 · 23/02/2014 21:26

I've just come across this thread after pregnancy (22weeks) has made my boobs grow and I've struggled to get comfortable bras.

Measuring today under bust is 30 inch and over the bust 37. Would that be 30F??

That's very different to the 36D I'm currently wearing if so...

MrsA2 · 23/02/2014 21:27

(Ps that over bust measurement is with bra on if that makes a difference?)

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2014 21:30

30FF approximately but you should do the overbust measurement bending over at 90 degrees with bra off. You'll probably find it's bigger

AcaciaBeez · 23/02/2014 21:30

Thanks Sorrel!

Sorry I know this has been faked a million times probably but where can I get 28 on the high street so I can try them on?

I live near Cabot circus in Bristol which has lots of shops but no bravissimo which I know has been recommended

MrsA2 · 23/02/2014 21:34

Thanks Statistically I'll try measuring again, wow that's so different but I hate my current bras so it does make sense

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2014 21:35

In Bristol I think it's John Lewis or maybe Debenhams for a 28. They're not that readily available on the high street

SorrelForbes · 23/02/2014 21:36

MrsA2 Yep a 30F but really you should take the across measurement without a bra and bending over at 90 degrees (it's a good look!).

Your 36D has the same cup volume as a 30F.

SorrelForbes · 23/02/2014 21:38

Oops, cross post!

chipsandpeas · 24/02/2014 18:25

just measured im a 34 band and 40 over so by my calculation that makes me a 34 DD

chipsandpeas · 24/02/2014 18:26

oh currently wearing a 36D so is there going to be much difference

boogiewoogie · 24/02/2014 18:39

Isn't it a cup per inch difference? So that should make you 34E. 1 back size down and 2 cup sizes up.

AcaciaBeez · 24/02/2014 19:25

Thanks Statitically I've looked in JohnLewis and there is hardly any choice for 28F or 28 anything ! Am I limited to buying online :( (if so does anywhere do free delivery/returns?)

BirthdayMuppet · 24/02/2014 19:32

Brastop, bravissimo (with certain conditions), Debenhams and JL all do I think.

SorrelForbes · 24/02/2014 19:47

Amazon do as well if you use the Collect Plus system.

chipsandpeas Try a 34E which will be one cup bigger in volume than your 36D. If you scoop, do you get overspill?

IamGrimalkin · 25/02/2014 07:40

Please please could somebody help me? I did the measuring by bending forwards and have read some of the bra intervention threads but my head is now mashed with information!

I measure 28 underneath and 31 over the top (whilst bending). Would I be a 28b or c (or is that totally wrong?)

I am currently wearing a 34b and in some of the bras I have there is a lot of spare cuppage at the top of the cup!

SorrelForbes · 25/02/2014 07:57

IamGrimalkin Start with a 28C (alas, this is a hard size to find!) and go from there. Your 34B has (roughly) the same cup volume as a 28DD so I'm not surprised it's gaping at the top.

However, this could also be a style issue. Is your 34B a moulded t-shirt bra style? These are tricky to fit and can cause gaping as they don't mould to your shape. You will be better off determining your proper size with an non-moulded bra.

If you scoop whilst wearing your 34B, is there any overspill or bulging?

IamGrimalkin · 25/02/2014 08:03

Thank you so much for replying :-)

Yes It is a moulded t shirt style bra but I do also have one that is an underwired one that seems to have a bit of padding that gapes more.

I have scooped and there is no overspill or bulging going on.

SorrelForbes · 25/02/2014 08:49

It does sound like your current cup is too big and also the wrong style for your shape. The proportions of a 28C will be different too. Try something like the Lepel Fiore padded plunge. Don't be surprised if you need a 28D.

IamGrimalkin · 25/02/2014 08:58

Thank you so much!! I think you may have changed my comfort levels and style :-) I have some summer tops that I can't wear due to them not covering my bra :-)
