Bra intervention - have I got this right?

Wenchelda · 06/05/2013 14:02

Hi - I'm new, hope its ok to come straight on with a question....I Somehow stumbled across one of the bra intervention threads a couple of weeks ago and have been following them in amazement ever since.

I've always worn an A cup (32/34 pre pregnancy, currently 36A) - never been measured professionally but always done it myself based on the "add 4 or 5 inches" rule. I have pretty much constant back ache and neck pain but never ever imagined this could be caused by boobs as they really are so tiny!

But after reading your fascinating threads, I think I should be a 30/32D! My measurements are 31 under bust, 35 at fullest point when bending over to 90 degrees, and 34 above. Have I got that right? If so I am truly truly in shock that my almost-not-there boobs are a D!!

Thanks

Braved Bravissimo as have lost a bit of weight, went in in a 38G (is a saggy comfy one tho) and came out in a 36HH. Only thing is I find the wiring is rubbing a bit at the top of the wiring, is this to do with not being used to wires and will I get used to it or do I need to take it back?

babyicebean · 02/01/2014 11:28

It's the bit where it is in the cleavage area

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/01/2014 11:36

Can I ask some advice for dd

She's 12 & in crop tops which she says feel a but small.

I just measured her. She measures between 24-25 around the back & depending on the position of the tape measure & whether she is bent over between 26-28 around the fullest part.

Does she need a bra & if so what size?

SorrelForbes · 02/01/2014 11:49

babyicebean Hmmm, it could be a style/size issue if the new bra comes up higher in the centre gore than you're used to. Or it could be just that brand of bra.

I have a Panache Idina which I love but it is very firm. I (gently) bent the wires outwards slightly which made it more comfortable. However, I wouldn't advise this unless you're definitely going to keep the bra!

Bravissimo are excellent at re-checking the fit for you and re-funding/exchanging. Which bra is it?

arleta66 · 02/01/2014 11:51

Hi again, I need more advice please, ordered loads of bras from Debenhams in the sale before found this thread, in sizes 36e and 36f(pre revelation size 36e) and now possibly am 34g, so I have found a lovely comfy non moulded t shirt bra that fits well in cups BUT back is very stretchy and is on tightest hook, I am pretty sure that this means it is too big in band :( am I right in thinking that I would need a 34ff instead to get same cup volume as a 36f? (Debenhams Gorgeous range do a 34ff). Can really sympathise with all the ladies having trouble finding a bra, I wanted bigger boobs all my life and have to say if I knew it would be this much trouble...mine got bigger as a result of weight gain but also after breast feeding there was a significant change in cup size and they stayed bigger, just mentioned that as another lady was surprised this happened to her. Also I am not well like someone else mentioned and find going to the shop for a marathon bra trying session flipping exhausting! But mail order very hard.

SorrelForbes · 02/01/2014 11:53

Picturesinthefirelight I would guess that she needs something in the region of a 24/D. However, this size isn't available so you need to look
for a 26C or a 28B. However, you may be really surprised when she starts trying things on as she may need a bigger cup than she measures (this was the case with my goddaughter and niece)

This company start at a 26DD. Alternatively, you could try some 28s in a brand that runs small (M&S and Debenhams both tend to run tight in the band) and then take the back in using Rixie clips (eBay) or by shortening the band

SorrelForbes · 02/01/2014 11:55

arleta66 Yes, a 34FF would give you approximately the same cup volume as a 36F. However, Debenhams tend to run small in the band and cup and I find their sizing a bit 'off'. Have you tried any 34Gs from their range?

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/01/2014 11:59

Taking in the band looks a bit complicated. I guess in the old plus 4 method shed be something like 28A but were not going there!

She's a dancer so a slim late developer

arleta66 · 02/01/2014 12:01

"Coming up higher under the armpit is partially a size change issue - you have new pressure points as the end of your bra just isn't where you are used to it. It's like breaking in new shoes. However, if it's your larger side that's digging it's possible you might need a cup bigger - if you are uneven you buy to fit the larger side.

Have a look at thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.co.uk/ for info on asymmetry and how to deal with it"

Sorry meant to answer Statisticallychallenged, I don't think I would fill a larger cup size than 34g, (suppose wont know till i try) I found this morning that after wearing the M&s t shirt bra 34g that was hurting under armpit that I was bruised! Not good. think that M&s gone downhill from the old days sadly, was v pleased had found some cheap bras in sale that fitted but think may need to try another style. Don't want to spend too much as am planning to lose a bit of weight and even a few pounds lost make a difference to my boobs, it all goes on boobs and tummy.

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/01/2014 12:03

I just remedy red though she had a cami top in over her crop top this time & got 25 back 27 full.

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/01/2014 12:04

Remeasured even

arleta66 · 02/01/2014 12:08

Hi thank you Sorrelforbes, I am ordering a 34g and 34ff in Debenhams. Will let you know how I get on!
I am watching with interest Picturesinfirelight as have 10 and half year old daughter who is in first bras, 30aa but suspect she need 28 band as these are riding up, according to traditional method she would have been 32 band! As she is so young really doesn't look like there is much in cup but she isn't a skinny girl and seems that you can be surprised once a bra is tried on. I found it very hard to find bras for her that weren't padded. This has def changed since I was her age as all starter/teen bras were unpadded

SorrelForbes · 02/01/2014 12:23

arleta66 Bear in mind that M&S don't do double sizes so their G is in fact a FF! Annoying and misleading. TBH, their bras, at the size, really aren't great anyway. The tend to use two or three styles and the wires and construction really aren't good enough for larger breasts.

Picturesinthefirelight I suspect a 28 is going to be too big but if she really wants to try a bra then I'd suggest getting some Rixie clips and giving it a go. I'd try B/C and D cups.

nippysweetie82 · 05/01/2014 20:52

Hi can anyone advise me please?
I measure at 32.5 under bust and 37 around the fullest part of the bust. I ordered a 32DD from Boux Avenue. It seems to give me a double boob effect and leaves fat bulging at the armpits! Should I be going up a back size or a cup size?

SorrelForbes · 05/01/2014 20:56

Did you take the across bust measurement holding the tape quite loosely? The cup measurement is the hardest to get right and each brand and style is different so it really is trial and error.

I don't have any experience of Boux Avenue bras (they didn't have anything in my size, 30GG, when I visited their Birmingham store recently) but I have read that their bras come up small in the band and cup.

It sounds like you needed a much bigger cup, probably around an F. Did you try the bra on back to front first? It's a great way of testing the band fit before bringing the cups into the equation.

nippysweetie82 · 05/01/2014 21:17

Thanks Sorrelforbes. I did hold the tape quite loosely across the bust.

I tried the bra on back to front first and it felt quite tight(not unbearable) but I was previously wearing a 36B that covered my boobs but gave no support whatsoever.

I'm stuck! I hate bra shopping.

SorrelForbes · 05/01/2014 21:24

I hate bra shopping too unless it's in Bravissimo or Rigby & Peller Grin.

honestly, give it another go. I suspect you need a bigger cup than you actually measure which is not uncommon. Have you got a Bravissimo near by?

nippysweetie82 · 05/01/2014 21:31

I'm in Glasgow so there should be a Bravissimo in the city centre but I've never noticed. I might give them a try.

I ordered from Boux Avenue online so I'll go in to the shop to exchange and try some different sizes. I've been putting off going in because I don't like the thought of them offering me a fitting and maybe poking and prodding at my flabby bits!

SorrelForbes · 05/01/2014 22:57

Be careful about getting fitted in Boux Avenue as I think they use the outdated adding inches method.

nippysweetie82 · 06/01/2014 09:29

Thanks Sorrel, will just try on some different sizes in Boux Avenue and hopefully pluck up the courage to get fitted in Bravissimo!

SorrelForbes · 06/01/2014 09:51

Honestly, go to Bravissimo, you'll be amazed at the great level of service.

Spychic · 12/01/2014 07:50

My 28G bras arrived from eBay!! Two of them are gorgeous and one is strangely huge... It was listed as 28G/50I, whatever that means... I assumed the 50I was some equivalent that I wasn't familiar with, should have asked before ordering!

The two that fit are very tight around the band and the underwire digs into my ribs a bit. But the cup itself is the perfect size. Should I try a 30 band? What cup would I try with 30?

Also I want to order a swimsuit, I've never had an underwire swimsuit, is the sizing the same as bras or do I need to aim for it being a bit looser for comfort??

SorrelForbes · 12/01/2014 09:50

With the two that fit in the cup, do the bands feel looser if you try them on back to front? Are you scooping?

What make and style are they? What make is the one that's huge?

The equivalent cup in a 30 would be a 30FF. What size were you wearing before? A big change in bans size can be a shock and take a little getting used to.

Spychic · 12/01/2014 11:44

Freya and Curvy Kate are the ones that fit well...

The huge one is um, no brand! Just a tag with the size. Really weird.
I think I was in a32 or 34 before, I had a few different ones as I've been pregnant or breastfeeding for past few years and my size kept changing.

Oh and I try to scoop but there's not much to scoop, my boobs are mostly in the main booby area, unless I'm doing it wrong
