Bra intervention - have I got this right?

Hi - I'm new, hope its ok to come straight on with a question....I Somehow stumbled across one of the bra intervention threads a couple of weeks ago and have been following them in amazement ever since.

I've always worn an A cup (32/34 pre pregnancy, currently 36A) - never been measured professionally but always done it myself based on the "add 4 or 5 inches" rule. I have pretty much constant back ache and neck pain but never ever imagined this could be caused by boobs as they really are so tiny!

But after reading your fascinating threads, I think I should be a 30/32D! My measurements are 31 under bust, 35 at fullest point when bending over to 90 degrees, and 34 above. Have I got that right? If so I am truly truly in shock that my almost-not-there boobs are a D!!

Thanks

Hmmm, both those brands are usually quite roomy and CK in particular are known for being very soft and stretchy. The tightness could be a size or a style issue. Did you try them on backwards?

BTW, the pic of the Freya - that bra does not fit that model!

Rhinosaurus · 12/01/2014 19:47

Ok I have succumbed to bra intervention after seeing a hideous pic of me from behind with rolls above/below bra strap!!

Brain is a bit cabbaged, I measured under 39, above 48 so guess this makes me 38FF or 40F? Been wearing 38C...

Can anyone confirm this size as off to do a spot of online bra shopping :-)

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/01/2014 19:53

Oh your poor poor boobies!!!

I'd suspect you'll get on best with the 38 - start with a 38G and GG and work from there

What happens if you scoop in your current bra? A previous poster with a similarly off bra size scooped and used the expression "it looks like my breasts are wearing ear muffs" to describe the result!

Rhinosaurus · 12/01/2014 20:09

Too late to try scooping as in pjs ready for Sherlock! Will try tomorrow haha

Wii order a selection of 38/40 F/FF/G/GG - send back what I don't want - the joys of isme.

GG sounds HUUUGGGGEEEEE LOL

Rhinosaurus · 12/01/2014 20:12

I guess also subliminally motivated by the MN ad

Spychic · 12/01/2014 20:54

sorrel it's morning here, will go try then backwards and report back later

rhinoceros you're in for a treat!!! Your boobs will love the extra room!

Rhinosaurus · 13/01/2014 18:30

Very disappointed, I got a selection of sizes, 38F being the smallest but I could have got two boobs in the cup, lots of flappy material, no cleavage and a huge thick strap - very matronly (although strap fitted well)!

Was this one www.isme.com/curvy-kate-eden-frill-briefs/1330603648.prd?pageNumber=2

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/01/2014 18:35

did you scoop rhino?

If you can try scooping vigorously, then try to look at the cups and work out whether it's too big everywhere, or are you filling the bottom but not the top (its quite a tall bra)

How is the band?

Rhinosaurus · 13/01/2014 18:50

Definitely scooping, the bottom of the cup was on but the top was full of loose material! The strap was fine.

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/01/2014 19:13

Hmmm. Are your boobs quite a bit fuller on the bottom compared to the top?

Looking at the wire, is it sitting far outside your breast tissue or is it just sort of running alongside it

Rhinosaurus · 13/01/2014 20:33

I've never really thought about it! The wire is outside the breast tissue

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/01/2014 20:50

Sorry I know these sound like odd questions - trying to figure out whether it's just a too big bra issue or whether there is also a style problem. For women who are quite bottom heavy boob wise, the top half of the cups being empty can be a problem especially on full cup/taller balconies and some plunges. For those women balconettes and half cups tend to be better.

Rhinosaurus · 13/01/2014 22:05

Might pop in asda so I can try on, they seem to have a good range of big sizes.

polythenespam · 14/01/2014 10:48

Can I jump in...

Measured myself at home to be a 30FF/G, which the lady in Debenhams agreed with. Have bought a couple of 30FF bras which certainly hold me up better than the 34E I was previously wearing!

Have a couple of questions though...I know that I'm going to find the band tight to begin with, but what I'm not used to are the bits of fat it creates around, especially by my armpits. Is this normal, or an indication that I'm still not in the right size?

Also, any recommendations for brands / styles to give a nize shape and uplift to boobs that are a bit droopy?

SorrelForbes · 14/01/2014 14:57

polythenespam Are you scooping? A lot of armpit fat suggests that the cup may still be too small. Alternatively you may need a bra with deeper sides. What brand/style did you buy?

What shape are your boobs? Bottom or top heavy? Are they wide set or placed closely together? Do they project from your chest wall or are they more shallow? Do they wide (e.g. start under your arm pit)?

polythenespam · 14/01/2014 15:45

Hi Sorrel. They are definitely bottom heavy, not much tissue at the top at all, which makes me feel they're droopy...they are wide in that they start under my armpit, not hugely wide set though I don't think - they almost form a triangle at the top but then fall separately.

I am trying to scoop, although I do find it difficult to do bras up at the back, so twist them round and then scoop. I'm sure that's probably wrong!

I've bought Debenhams Gorgeous back smoothing t-shirt ones.

poorbuthappy · 14/01/2014 15:48

Rhinosaurus - don't bet on Asda. I think their 34G bras are the equilivant of a 34b in the more expensive makes.

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/01/2014 17:48

It could be that you're needing a bigger cup - not being able to get things to scoop in is often a sign that you need one more cup.

Are they moulded bras? If so they are pretty much the worst for trying to get a fit with too. Try a balconette like the Cleo Marcie, Juna or a half cup

polythenespam · 15/01/2014 13:25

Thanks. I'm not sure that I need a bigger cup - a G leaves me with an awful lot of gaping at the top of the cup. I will try the other bras you mentioned

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/01/2014 13:49

The gaping is a style issue I think, , it's a very common issue with moulded bras on bottom heavy boobs. Armpit escapage belongs in the cup.

polythenespam · 15/01/2014 21:10

Ah, ok. I will try some other styles in FF and G then!

magicballs · 22/01/2014 08:43

I really do not understand this bra thing! Please can someone help me! I am 32 inches on my underboob, and when I do bending over, my floppy boob is 39 inches. What does this mean in bra sizes?! I usually wear a 36B or C, and I also like to have padding because my jubblies are quite small and unimpressive - if I don't have padding, I feel like a child. I have been reading the bra intervention threads in pure amazement, but I still haven't got my head round the actual measuring into sizing ? Thanks for any advice!!

HazleNutt · 22/01/2014 09:04

try around 32F magic

FoxMulder · 22/01/2014 09:15

I have a question - I hope it hasn't been asked before. Mine are very widely spaced, does that make a difference? I measure 32/39 but almost none of that extra 7" is in projection, it's just the space between them! A 32F is much, much too big.

I must double check those measurements though because I'm 31 weeks preg now, although they don't seem to have got any bigger!

magicballs · 22/01/2014 09:23

Fox, your boobs sound same as mine, mine are also fairly widely spaced. I cant get my head around 32F !! I have been an A for years and years, that would be awesome (and scary!)
