Bra intervention - have I got this right?

Wenchelda · 06/05/2013 14:02

Hi - I'm new, hope its ok to come straight on with a question....I Somehow stumbled across one of the bra intervention threads a couple of weeks ago and have been following them in amazement ever since.

I've always worn an A cup (32/34 pre pregnancy, currently 36A) - never been measured professionally but always done it myself based on the "add 4 or 5 inches" rule. I have pretty much constant back ache and neck pain but never ever imagined this could be caused by boobs as they really are so tiny!

But after reading your fascinating threads, I think I should be a 30/32D! My measurements are 31 under bust, 35 at fullest point when bending over to 90 degrees, and 34 above. Have I got that right? If so I am truly truly in shock that my almost-not-there boobs are a D!!

Thanks

sorrel am currently wearing a 42e...would a 40 not be so much more tighter ( when sat down and the rolls of fat Blush push it up)

SorrelForbes · 31/12/2013 18:15

It depends on the cup. An E is really much too small for you hence the tightness. Try a few 40s and 38s on back to front first to test the band. Follow the instructions here

DuffyMoon · 31/12/2013 18:17

Ahhhh so it might be those pesky fabric stealing cups !!!! (Light bulb moment) thank you

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/12/2013 19:04

DuffyMoon, pop your 42 on back to front (so the cups are at the back) and you'll probably find that the band isn't too tight at all.

Aworryingtrend · 31/12/2013 22:38

Thanks so much Sorrel, have ordered a few cleos and also a freya something in the sale, can't wait to see what they are like when they arrive!

Thanks CallMeNancy. Sad that so many of us have had bad experiences but thank goodness we're sorted out now!

Statistically & Sorrell, I'd be really grateful for advice on which bra styles and makes might suit me :)

It feels like a miracle that a 36 band is so comfy yet a 38 A has been cutting into me all these years! But I can get my whole hand into the strap at the back so I think I need to be brave and move down to a 34.

I measure 34.5 / 41.5 and I am a squashy size 14. The ones that I bought this week were a Triumph Amourette WHP and a plain John Lewis Tshirt bra but I'd like to order some nice ones online.

Thank you very much :)

SorrelForbes · 01/01/2014 18:16

I'd suggest trying a 34FF and sizes around there (don't be surprised if you need to size up in the cup). What style of bra do you like?

arleta66 · 01/01/2014 20:24

Hi after following the excellent advice on here I tried a 34g (was wearing 36e) in a plunge style from M&s in sale (which are not great I know but am heavier than usual at moment(!) and will be back to normal once stop all the xmas/new year indulging!) so Don't want to spend a lot of money. Anyway the 34g is great for reducing back and arm pit fat and is filled at top as well after scooping but it does feel un comfy under left arm(bigger boob) is this to do with the style or is this a fit issue? feels like bra is coming up a lot higher at sides under armpit than my 36e bras

muvril · 01/01/2014 20:50

Thanks Sorrel. I'd like any style that looks smooth under my work clothes and gives me a bit of shape and as few bulges as possible. Pretty would be a bonus as I've lived in black plain tshirt styles for many years.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/01/2014 20:52

Coming up higher under the armpit is partially a size change issue - you have new pressure points as the end of your bra just isn't where you are used to it. It's like breaking in new shoes. However, if it's your larger side that's digging it's possible you might need a cup bigger - if you are uneven you buy to fit the larger side.

Have a look at thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.co.uk/ for info on asymmetry and how to deal with it

Picturesinthefirelight · 01/01/2014 21:35

This thread is fascinating

I've worn a 34 or 36 C for ages mostly measures at M & S

About a year ago I went to John Lewis & was astounded when she said I was really a 32 D. I was a bit unsure but had to admit the bra looked better but always felt it was a little tight around the back. Assistant sold me a couple of their cheaper bras to see how I got on & said I probably just needed to get used to a smaller back size after wearing one which was much too big for years. She said I could try a

Went back this week & the assistant said I measured 31 around the back but she said she wouldn't reccomendations I go down to a 30. It seems I've gone up to a 30 DD ( they didn't have any of the style/colour I wanted so I've ordered some.

I tend to go for the t shirt bras as they are cheap. Tried on a gorgeous Calvin Klein but can't afford over £30 for a bra

I don't know my other measurement & don't have a tape measure but wonder if I should have tried the 30 F

SorrelForbes · 01/01/2014 21:40

muvril my two favourite plain bras are the Cleo Juna and the Panache Idina balconette. I also love others in the Cleo range as they give great shape and are pretty (Melissa, Bella, Marcie, Lily). Braves similar own brand are lovely too and Freya do some nice patterns and styles.

ilovesmurfs · 01/01/2014 21:42

I am 31-32 under bust and 40-41 around my bust, whay bra size does thag make me? Desperstely need new ones as I am falling out of the cups of mine amd the back keeps riding up!

Heading into town tomorrow and want some ide aof size to look at.

muvril · 01/01/2014 22:07

Thanks Sorrel! Will let you know how I get on :)

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/01/2014 22:45

Ilovesmurfs - start with a 30GG/H and 32G/GG and work from there

ilovesmurfs · 01/01/2014 22:48

So my 32e is def too small!

Thankyou, excited to go bra shopping tomorrow!

SorrelForbes · 01/01/2014 23:01

Oops that should say Bravissimo own brand!

Spychic · 02/01/2014 07:20

trouble finding 28g at affordable prices in a maternity style... Do you think I can get away with just wearing a normal bra??

Baby is 6 months, feeds every 3 or so hours.

What style would you recommend if I do that... I guess plunging or balconette so I can get my boob out easily?

Am really excited at the idea of wearing normal bras again, please give me permission!

Spychic · 02/01/2014 07:22

Whoops lost the first half of the sentence there but you know what I mean.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/01/2014 08:01

It's safe to wear underwired as long as they fit well-the important thing is making sure that none of the wire is sitting on breast tissue. You can buy converter kits on eBay to turn normal bras in to drop cups

arleta66 · 02/01/2014 09:10

Hi Syphic, I wore Bravado nursing bras, they are not wired but were very comfy and looked more like a shaped sports bra, they do a version for dd+ . I am not sure if you are after getting back into underwired and if so ignore this! I found that when I was breastfeeding that my boob size changed a lot ,as in whether you have just fed baby (was noticeably lopsided!) They obviously didn't give the same uplift as an underwire but they did give a better shape than normal non wires that left me looking a bit droopy! I am not sure though if they start as small as a 28(lucky you being so slim :))

Spychic · 02/01/2014 09:56

I don't mind non-under wired, it's more that my size is so hard to find, if I could wear normal bras it would give me more choices iyswim.

I found an Aussie site www.broodsbigbras.com for anyone else on this side of the world... They've got ONE bra in my size, not a nursing one, so will order that and see how I go... Will also check out Bravado. I suspect I will probably end up wearing a mix of styles and types, which is fine by me as long as the bloody things fit properly! So sick of feeling like a monoboobed jellyfish.

Spychic · 02/01/2014 11:10

Have ordered 3 bras from eBay. Am giddy Grin
