"Fashionable" things that drive you nuts

May I present the 'dipped hem' - where the hem at the back of the skirt, dress is longer than that at the front.

Because the knees have always been marginalised! And are due a good airing with a backdrop. Hmm

I hate this trend with a passion and I've NEVER seen anyone who looks good wearing it, not even the models selling the stuff, which makes me wonder why anyone at all fell for it in the first place?

Right - your turn

Crop tops. They don't look good on anyone except gazelle like teenagers and I ain't one of them

treaclesoda · 24/04/2013 16:19

its a long gone trend (thankfully) but those on here who are old enough will remember the trend about ten years ago for wearing combat type trousers with stilettos. It used to drive me bonkers. As if a pair of trousers originally designed to keep grenades in needs a nice brightly coloured high heel to set it off. I blame the stylists who dressed the folk on the original series of X Factor, Pop Idol etc, I seem to remember it tied in with that era.

BarefootShirl · 24/04/2013 16:20

I still wear crop tops - and I'm certainly no gym bunny! Doesn't mean they look good on me, just that I like them Blush

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 24/04/2013 16:21

I agree about the dipped hems and the combats with heels. However, I am writing this whilst wearing a crop top!

Dumdeedumdeedum · 24/04/2013 16:21

leggings as trousers - just no.

Francagoestohollywood · 24/04/2013 16:30

OP do you mean those skirts that are mini on the front and long on the back? (sorry English not my 1st language). If so, I strongly agree, just WHY?

OneLittleLady · 24/04/2013 16:30

Heh, I'm not offended by other people actually wearing crop tops, it's probably jealousy that I can't wear one myself Blush

BarefootShirl · 24/04/2013 16:35

Just don't get me started on crocs - they seem to be crawling out of the woodwork again around here over the last few days! There can never be a time or place for them IMO.

FoundAChopinLizt · 24/04/2013 16:41

There's a type of coat (usually khaki) with a hood where there's a bit hanging down at the backlike a toggle stringy thing. I just have the urge to cut it off.

EeyoreIsh · 24/04/2013 16:45

I used to live my crop tops in the 90s when I was a skinny beanpole. It would not be a good luck Envy

I hate those tops that include a blouse collar and sleeves inside a jumper. Why I ask you, why?!

EeyoreIsh · 24/04/2013 16:45

Good look even.

BeCool · 24/04/2013 16:46

Franca yes those!
I am just Envy of people who have body to wear crop tops.
FoundAChopinList they are parkas - favoured by mods and people on scooters. I'm not sure how the back toggle thing actually would work but I believe it does have a function.

Things without sleeves, especially warm, wool dresses which are plainly designed to be worn in January ... without fucking sleeves.

It drives me nuts.

Also, pointy-end shoes. I'm sorry, but I think they look horrible and they remind me of those stories about models having a toe amutated to fit into them.

Skinny jeans on men. I just think they look wrong, somehow, they emphasize the hips in a way that is a bit bizarre.

Francagoestohollywood · 24/04/2013 20:21

I can't stand Disegual.
Also those wedge trainers, even the isabelle marant's.
Also yes to skinny jeans on men, which seem to be worn by men with ugly thighs.

Allthingspretty · 24/04/2013 20:37

Leggings
Long sheer blouses

Startail · 24/04/2013 20:45

Yy to dip hemmed skirts and see through netting maxi skirts with a miniskirt underneath. Both turned up on speech day. If they look stupid on a 19yo there is no hope.

DD1(15) mutters about wanting a dipped hem skirt, I hope we don't find one.

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 24/04/2013 21:09

Those skirts are just awful, aren't they? Even worse when they're flouro colours.

Whenever I see stuff like that, I remind myself that it's not for me and try to reign in the 'what does she look like?' thought because all that does is prove I'm now, at 39, the older generation. Grin

I blame Kylie Minogue for the combats-and-stilettos look - I'm sure she had a video out around about the time of Can't Get You Out Of My Head that had her in the combo. Can't for the life of me remember which one though.

Thurlow · 24/04/2013 21:14

Wedges. All wedges. I don't think I have ever seen a pair that actually look alright on anyone.

imour · 24/04/2013 21:24

uggs and leggings .

Atavistic · 24/04/2013 21:27

Please, can someone explain "&qu ot". It's often used in thread titles, and I don't understand.

Genuine inquiry, by the way!

BlueSkySunnyDay · 24/04/2013 21:30

Oh the handkerchief hem dress - reminds me of cabaret singers.

Those jeans that are blotchy - I think it was some kind of wash - bleurgh.

I always look when people wear "bench" clothing to see if their clothes say other things like "table" "chair" (probably just me being bizarre)

LadyBigtoes · 24/04/2013 21:30

Brogues on women. Do not get it! I like clumpy shoes, but not horrific skinny pointy versions of men's shoes that make you look like a clown.

I tried on a dress in Hobbs recently and the assistant brought me some VILE blue and cream brogues to try with it - I knew I would never wear them in a squill ion years but put them on anyway. She said they were cute - I could not believe how stupid they looked.

LadyBigtoes · 24/04/2013 21:32

Oh and of course the youth of today in those jeans that actually stop BELOW their actual arse! I just want to tug them up and say "there sweetheart now you can walk properly" (spent too much time with toddlers!)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/04/2013 21:35

I quite like dipped hems, but I rather like my legs too! :) And I like parkas.

Brogues look lovely on skinny teenage girls and silly on most women, I think - unless they are v slim and lovely.

I hate the trend for grown women wearing 'distressed' jeans. I think they look ridiculous.

And neon. Why?
