"Fashionable" things that drive you nuts

May I present the 'dipped hem' - where the hem at the back of the skirt, dress is longer than that at the front.

Because the knees have always been marginalised! And are due a good airing with a backdrop. Hmm

I hate this trend with a passion and I've NEVER seen anyone who looks good wearing it, not even the models selling the stuff, which makes me wonder why anyone at all fell for it in the first place?

Right - your turn

I like brogues!!

EeyoreIsh · 24/04/2013 22:16

I love neon. I have embraced this trend! I have a neon green cardigan, lots of neon pink things. It's fab Grin

OneLittleLady · 24/04/2013 22:21

Hidden platform 'stripper' shoes. Who wears them?!?! Who can actually walk in them?!?! They are a mystery to me.

BeCool · 24/04/2013 23:03

atavistic. I didn't type it like that but I used quotation marks and MN went all weird about it.

YY to sleeveless winter jumpers. How? Why? What?

Birkenstocks (sorry!) I always think they are worn by women with hairy toes.

NicolaSeven · 24/04/2013 23:54

I'm quite loving neon.

But why are the people now wearing those stupid Run DMC caps that perch atop the head, not quite on it. Why would you deliberately want to make yourself look like a berk?

CareerGirl01 · 25/04/2013 07:19

Nude heels! blame the duchess of Cambridge!

BeCool · 25/04/2013 09:32

ooooh I LOVE Birkenstocks Grin

Francagoestohollywood · 25/04/2013 10:22

I love Birkenstocks too, they are perfect for my hurting (and hairy) feet.

I do find them ugly though, gosh, it's hard!

foxysocks · 25/04/2013 10:44

i can't stand birkenstocks either

i LOVE distressed jeans though. and neon. am wearing both right now.

foxysocks · 25/04/2013 10:50

although thinking more clearly i wouldn't desc birkies as fashionable anyway!

peplums. do not like those. and push up bras.

bunnymother · 25/04/2013 11:24

Oh God, those stripper shoes. Just so ugly! Neon isn't for me, but I don't have an aversion to it, and I quite like distressed jeans. My children are confused by them ie why the holes?

emsyj · 25/04/2013 11:24

Loafers with the fringey bit. All loafers, actually - with or without a fringey bit. They are just the fugliest thing I've ever seen, they make my eyeballs itch. And those awful flats that look like an old man's slipper: here and inspired by these.

Francagoestohollywood · 25/04/2013 11:31

Ah, the tuxedo flats. I am in two minds about them, I have seen people wearing them with the right kind of trousers and it was a good look though I am not sure I could pull it off.

woozlebear · 25/04/2013 11:34

YY Peplums!!! uuuuuugh.

Startail · 25/04/2013 11:48

The quotes rubbish is a fault with the MN Ap I think.

Slipper flats and those Thoms?? Things.

Startail · 25/04/2013 11:50

Toms, FUGLY!!!

BeCool · 25/04/2013 11:55

I think I started thread on Ap, but I'm not totally sure! Confused

bleedingheart · 25/04/2013 12:07

I wear brogues and I am neither slim nor lovely. I think it's how you wear them and the attiude. I wouldn't wear them with skinnies.

I like slippers and loafers too. Clearly no hope for me.

I do dislike the stripper shoes, cropped tops, fishnet/string vest tops, stillettos with combats- very Girls Aloud circa 2001.

Fuckitthatlldo · 25/04/2013 12:38

Those wedge style trainers. Oh my eyes.

Those flats that look like you've left the house still wearing your slippers are pretty horrid too.

Peplums are also vile. They are not flattering on any shape or size as far as I can see. Perfect if you want to look like a fashion victim without a clue.

Quilty · 25/04/2013 12:42

Having the zip on a dress as a "feature". The disappointment when you see a nice dress and turn it round to find an ugly great big zip on the back. Rubbish.

woozlebear · 25/04/2013 13:04

emsyj they're so not inspired by those grandad slippers, they're inspired by gentlemen's smoking slippers, which would have been worn, pipe in hand, with a velvet smoking jacket. Sherlock Holmes probably had some. V dashing. The grandad version is only an imitation itself, certainly not the inspiration!*

*Not saying they're necessarily a good look, mind...I think you have to be a damn sight more eccentric to carry them off than the skinny jean-ed tweenies who I've seen in then.

beanandspud · 25/04/2013 13:13

I was going to say Toms as well; particularly when worn with jeans with elasticated bottoms. And I hate seeing those patterned woolly leggings (sort of argyle jumper style).

FoxPass · 25/04/2013 13:17

Trainers with the hidden heel. WHY would I suffer with a high heel only to look like I'm wearing flats!

YY to Kylie pioneering the stilletos with combats look. I think it was her "Love at first sight" video.

Tops with elasticated hems are hideous. Material bunching up and gathered just above your hips, no thanks. Not flattering to any body shape! I wish shops would stop trying to inflict them on women I'm looking at you Next.
