Nice work tops please

I'm in desperate need of some decent, plain work tops.

Must be long sleeved (or 3/4) and suitable for with or without a jacket.

I just despair when I open my wardrobes - lots of nice trousers, skirts, jackets and dresses but I just struggle with tops! I'm a tall and busty-ish 14/16.

TIA :)

watching with interest.

I've tried on and searched online nearly every top/shirt on the high street. They are mainly truly hideous ATM.

Or they don't fit in the bust at all.

Or they are shapeless.
Or a horrible colour.

Or made of slippery sweaty polyester.

What on earth is going on???

happyyonisleepyyoni · 16/04/2013 16:36

Place marking for same reason. I need new work clothes!

Biscuit357 · 16/04/2013 16:39

I bought these two at the Phase Eight sale at the weekend which may be good:

They won't set the world alight but do a job!

Biscuit357 · 16/04/2013 16:41

Sorry, this was the 2nd

I've resorted to ebay and buy any plain silk tops I see on there for work.

ToothGah · 16/04/2013 19:20

Bumpity bump - desperate! :)

Anything in the jaegar outlet suitable?

ToothGah · 16/04/2013 21:46

Hmm, even the prices in the Jaegar outlet brought me out in a sweat!!!

Sorry, no suggestions, but I'm watching too, I find it so difficult to find work tops.

ToothGah · 16/04/2013 22:46

Just something simple, plain, long sleeves is all I want - someone could make a fortune coming up with them Confused

WildThongIWannaKnowForSure · 16/04/2013 22:56

Someone on a Fred here recommended Kettlewell Colours for soft jersey work tops
linky

YoniOno · 16/04/2013 23:22

Missbeehiving - if you wear silk tops for work do you dry clean them or machine wash? I have a terror of silk for this reason...

LadyMountbatten · 16/04/2013 23:50

A shirt? Gap or uniqlo

Thecatsmum · 17/04/2013 07:35

Kettlewell looks good, anyone tried them?

Levantine · 17/04/2013 07:37

I got a very nice cowl neck top from lands end. Not massively exciting but good quality and quite flattering

AmberNectarine · 17/04/2013 08:02

Yep second Gap/Uniqlo shirts. I have a vague hatred of jersey tops under jackets, no idea why....

charitygirl · 17/04/2013 08:12

Me too Amber! I really want to like jersey tops as they seem so useful. But ugh - no. And patterned jersey, esp when used in wrap dresses...I just can't.

Ps I find silk mix or 100% silk fine on a machine hand wash or wool wash cycle.

fossil971 · 17/04/2013 09:18

One of my colleagues has a blouse similar to this

I know it's not a good cut for a large bust but it was nice to see something that wasn't either saggy jersey or a man-style shirt, but still smart.

I think it's exceptionally hard to wear a tailored shirt if you are well endowed, even Pepperberry don't seem to help much. It has to be brilliantly cut and have a little stretch.

Cookie51 · 17/04/2013 13:43

I had forgotten about Phase Eight, they are definitely worth looking at. Pepperberry shirts are quite good if you are busty but I find the bust area is too low, maybe they are better if you are long in the body (not short in the body like me!)

My issue is with work suits - either the jacket fits and the trousers don't (horrible high waists!) or the trousers are perfect and the jacket is v short or otherwise ill fitting!!

Does anyone do suit separates so you can mix and match jackets, skirts and trousers in the same fabric?

fluffyanimal · 17/04/2013 13:44

I was going to suggest B&Q until I realised this thread was in Style and Beauty Grin

suebfg · 17/04/2013 14:33

Someone linked on a previous thread to some nice cowl style tops in House of Fraser - in the sale for about £20

suebfg · 17/04/2013 14:33

I bought a lovely silk cowl top from Hobbs but it is sleeveless

lizzieannejames · 17/04/2013 14:50

I love Hobbs for work clothes. I also tend to buy blouses/shirts from Ralph lauren outlet, sometimes Jaegar and Mango. Zara is another favourite too but haven't brought anything in there for a few years now!

LadyMountbatten · 17/04/2013 16:24

I agree amber. It's a bit obvious
