Just made an appointment to get fillers done- eek!!

Anyone done this, any tips? It's Voluma in my cheeks to plump me up a bit. Only 1ml to start with as I'm paranoid about looking OTT!

What's the difference between fillers and botox then?

Botox freezes the muscle, evening out creases and lines, fillers plump up the hollows.

What did you have, where? Were you happy with the results? Did it hurt and how long did it take for any swelling to go down?

Had fillers once, in my nose to mouth lines. A year on, it looks better than ever. On a pain scale of 1-10, I think Botox is a 2.5. Fillers was about a 4.75 . I held ice on my face for about 10 mins before the needle went in and for 5 mins afterwards. The results are instant too, not like Botox, so you can see the effect immediately. Please come back and let us know how you get on.

Botox doesn't last long but fillers last ages. I had my sunken eye troughs done about 7 months ago. They were fab but they need doing again now.

Eye troughs sounds interesting. I could do with that too but feel a bit squeamish about it!

I have had nose to mouth fillers and eye troughs done. Nose to mouth - I found a bit painful, probably a 4.75 but eyes were less painful. It took probably 5 days for the little bit of swelling to go down completely. The eye trough fillers are amazing and still look good 9 months on.

Hmm. I'm booked for Botox Friday so may look at fillers too. What is recommended for the 'commas' at the sides of the mouth? And is there a price difference?

I had fillers today on the 'marionette' lines below the corners of my mouth which were giving me a 'sad', downturned, expression. A numbing creme was put on the area and left for about 20 mins beforehand and the filler itself (Juvederm) has lidocaine in it so after the first or second injection it's not painful as such, just feels a bit weird. The whole process took about 30 minutes.
The results are almost immediate but apparently get even better over a few days as everything settles down. I did look a bit red and swollen afterwards and some bruising is coming up now (4 hours later) but I think I'm going to be happy with the finished result, just need to be patient for a few days. I'm off work from tomorrow and over the Easter weekend, however, so the timing is good.
I was told that the filler should last up to 9 months, but the mouth is such a mobile area and that does affect the longevity of the filler.

I was dreading the eye troughs but they were the least painful of all the fillers I have had done. (not that my face is made entirely of filler or anything.

I've had tear troughs too. Brill results and just mild discomfort having it done. I would have them done again, and nose to mouth too.

Where are you going for them?

Has anyone had them to lift the corners of the mouth?

My mouth is drooping depressingly now, and my lips are getting thinner, but I hate the idea of a very obvious trout pout, and last time I had something or other the lift the corners of my mouth I just ended up looking a bit like Marlon Brando, so not keen to try again. but in the meantime I look too much like my mother for my liking, Something must be done!

fellatio if done by a good surgeon, you shouldn't end up with a trout pout.

Yeah, got subtle fillers in my nose-to-mouth lines and smokers lines above upper lip a few months ago. Subtle but effective and nobody noticed except me, I dont think. I get botox in my crows feet and number 11s every 4 months, too. Been haing it done for two years.

Fuck it. You only live once .

Make sure you have confidence in the practitioner, though. Mine always goes in light handed, and then offers a free top up up to 4 weeks afterwards. Better than those beautician types who go in for hell for leather!

I've had the corners of mouth lifted with a combination of:

• filler in corner of mouth
• a bit of botox to the depressor anguli oris muscle (that's the muscle that pulls the corners of the mouth downward)

Plus:

• Thinning of the top lip can be combatted by a tiny bit of botox into the cupid's bow of the mouth; this works by preventing the pulling in/lip thinning action of the muscles inside the lip. It will make the upper lip look slightly fuller and will ameliorate vertical lip creasing.

However (there is always a "however"). The best results come from using very small doses which tend to only last 10 weeks or so. Higher doses can result in the mouth feeling odd, looking odd, or sounding a bit drunk. Not good! So going for the tiny dose and only having it last a short time is a fair compromise.

I've found the best possible result is the small-dose botox combined with small amounts of filler, carefully applied, for a nice natural look. A bit of filler supports my lip line and prevents vertical creasing too (no more lipstick bleed), and that bit of filler applied with a curving upward flick of the needle (sounds worse than it feels) can be very effective.

Remember, if you have filler and you don't like the look, it can be dissolved, you don't have to live with it.

Do tear trough fillers make a difference to under eye lines?

um...don't know really because I had botox in my crows' feet at the same time, so it's hard to say what did what for sure. But it somehow made the dark bags under my eyes go away, and the apples of my cheeks took on a lovely youthful, smooth plumpness again. Aaah - twas lovely, I'm telling you. But it's worn off now though - I need to go again. It lasted ages and ages though - six months or so.

I look shite at the moment. That's the trouble with doing this. When it wears off you want to kill yourself.

Quite fancy the tear troughs now! In fact it was the first thing the nurse said in my consultation.

She was recommended by a friend and has lots of goods reviews online.

I've had one bad experience before so it's made me quite wary, hence only getting 1ml in. She suggested that as sensed that I was quite nervous!

I have fillers in my cheeks roughly every 12-15 months. Done by Dr Tracy Mountford Harley St. Would not trust a nurse- unless one of hers.

My face was sore the first time for a week and hot. 2nd time was only sore for a day.

The skill of the dr is vital- it's artistry- knowing how much to use and where.

I don't know how your nurse can say now how much she would use- my dr only knows once she starts injecting and sees how much the face takes. I have had 1ml each side, each time though the 2nd time she thought we might get away with 0.5 but we didn't.

It did hurt- no getting away from that. Best you are aware!

Thanks Baglady. I'm not convinced that I needs to be a doctor. Surely an understanding of the physiology, training and experience is the most important thing.

I had a bad experience before and the woman was a doctor so I'm not convinced it necessarily follows.

The nurse I'm talking about has her own medical aesthetics practice and is very experienced.

Living in Scotland I think a trip to London is a bit impractical!
