Workwear outfits featuring trousers - help please

There have been quite a few workwear threads lately recommending lovely dresses and jackets/cardis. Can anyone recommend some outfits for work featuring trousers, I cycle part of the way to work so generally prefer trousers but work in a professional environment so need to look smart but don't really want to wear a suit very often - any ideas?
TIA

Good idea for a thread - I'd like some recommendations for good work trousers too.

I bought these recently and so far have worn them to work with
(1) a Gap dark blue fine knit sweater, black loafers, black and silver stripe scarf
(2) a semi fitted Banana Republic white shirt, black loafers, long multi strand black ribbon and silver beads necklace, cropped Episode herringbone dark grey jacket
(3) this cardi, these ballet flats and a black diamante bib necklace.

Plan to wear them next with http://pinterest.com/pin/321937073332810645/ this jersey blazer and cobalt sleeveless pleated front top I got last year in Principles and black/silver jewellery and loafers

I just bought some near-identical trousers like that from M&S (can't link on tablet, but they are 7/8 length cotton with 3% lycra). I think it's a flattering length, and a nice change from the bootcut style I've been in for years.

I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up so I can get my ankles out!

I like the 7/8 length type trousers but what sort of shoes do you where with them and can you wear them in this weather? Won't I be freezing? I have some high-heeled Mary-Jane type shoes, would these work?

I wore mine with socks to work and then removed socks in the office! Agree the slightly shorter length looks good - feels like a more modern or fresher look than bootcuts. I am looking at my other trousers to see if any could be taken up to that length.

Are these the M&S ones Cointreau?

Fruit I think either high heels or flats can work with 7/8 length. I don't really do heels and prefer flats anyway - brogues can look good with them.

Yes, liberty, those are the ones!

They are lovely quality, nice heavy fabric and fit like a dream.

I have a pair of mid-height black heels that look nice with them, and will possibly try sandals in the summer. Or my new leopard print ballet flats....

Interesting - I like the blue....

Can I ask ?the m&s trousers are short legsso which size do I buy I'm a 32" inside leg and usually get a long in m&s or if I want crops a 27?!. If I bought these what size would I buy. Thanks, Oh I'm 5.10 in height.

CointreauVersial · 15/03/2013 21:58

Hmm....it's difficult to say.

I am 5 7, and am fine with the regular length (because they are cropped). It depends how long you want them. You can return to store, so suggest you order both.

I was in M&S today and picked up the grey colour to go with the black I already have. I can see them being very useful in the spring (when it eventually arrives).
