All of the other ones are closed now and I still need some help!

Yup, I get people to grab the back of my bra. Quite effective as they go, but mine's way looser....

SorrelForbes · 19/04/2013 23:14

Oh, I do a lot of yanking of other people's bra straps Blush. Last week I managed to get one of my fellow am-drammers from a 34E to a 28G!

motherofvikings · 20/04/2013 12:56

Right I haven't read the 800+ posts already on this thread but did read some of the earlier threads! :)

I just wanted to say how good debenhams in derby was yesterday. The lady fitting measured me accurately, she suggested a 32 but totally changed her mind when she saw how much 'slack' there was. She brought me various styles of dd and d cups and went through which fitted best, adjusting the straps and getting me to hoik. :)

The woman on the till was great too. There were many discounts going on so she worked out the best combination of 3 for 2, 20% off and £5 off £30 spend when you have a fitting to bring my bill down from £70 to £50! Shock Grin

Am wearing a new strapless today. It is rather snug (not painful) but I haven't had to hoik so far! :)

Bra gurus, I need your help!

Somehow I am down to one reasonably fitting bra. I know my size, but I can't seem to find anything that fits well in town (options for small band, large cup bras here are a small, badly stocked Debenhams or nothing and their sizing is so erratic I can't find anything I'm happy with at the moment) so I've started to look online. I ordered this on Amazon, it came this morning and I want to love it because it's comfortable and pretty and was so cheap but I think it's going to have to go back because the fit is not right - only I don't know what exactly the problem is with the fit so don't know what to look for instead!

I got a 30G. The band is clearly right, it does up but is firm on the loosest hook, doesn't cut me in half, no back fat. The central gore sits flat. The cups are a problem, though. No fourboob effect, maybe a tiny bit of overspill but not enough to go up a cup, but there is a huge 'gap' at the bottom of the cup. I put 'gap' in quotation marks because it is not empty space as such, the bottom inch or so of the cup (worse towards the outside of the cup) just sits flat against my skin. It feels like the wire should be an inch higher than it is. No amount of scooping fixes this, it's like my boobs are on a little 'shelf' inside the cup. I've had this with many bras before, when it's really bad I don't buy them, but even ones I've bought often start to do this after I've had them on for a day or so. I mentioned it to the fitter in Bravissimo when I was fit there last year as the first bra she brought me had this, she shrugged and told me it was normal, I didn't think so and refused to buy that one. What causes this? Is it a sizing issue or a style issue, and if it's a style issue what should I be buying instead? It's very strange because the bra is actually quite comfortable other than that bottom inch of the cup feeling and looking really weird. Hope I've managed to describe the problem well, I didn't really know how to explain it short of posting a picture and I'm not quite ready to post my boobs all over MN :o

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/04/2013 16:57

It can be size, or it can be style. From what you are saying it's probably style though. Basically, the shape of your boobs doesn't match the shape of the bra. It's quite common if the wires of the bra are quite narrow and deep, but your breasts are wide and shallower. does that sound like you?

Basically - try putting an orange in a glass - the shapes just don't work!

Naoko · 20/04/2013 17:06

My breasts are quite wide, I think. Not sure about shallow, they're reasonably pointy, but definitely wide. It's awkward because I also have narrow shoulders so I need something with wide wires but close set straps. Bloody nightmare. Thanks SC, I'll look for something with wider wires. Anyone know if Gossard bras are generally narrow, and what brands are wider?

SorrelForbes · 20/04/2013 17:14

Two new bras arrived today from an ebay seller. Both are 30GG Curvy Kate but samples/slightly marked so a bargain at £4.50 each!

One is the Elegance which is a plunge and not my usual style . Well... hmm, what can I say. Not as much lift as I like but blimey, the cleavage. Looking down I was convinced that I must have at least five boobs on each side but looking side on all was swell (pun intended!). This could be a good going out/bedroom bra.

The second one is the Entice. I had high hopes of this as I already have a Thrill Me in a 30G and only have a tadge of overspill. Not good. I reckon I need at least an HH in this! Oh well.

On a happier note, I have just re-sized my female relative. I got her fitted last year as a 32E but her mum insisted on putting her back in a 36E as she was a 36 and therefore her daughter couldn't possibly be any smaller Hmm. Anyway, it turns out she is now my bra twin and fits perfectly into all my 30GGs! She especially loved my Ewa CH Biszkopty so I have ordered her one plus another three bras for myself and also ordered her a Cleo Juna. My poor bank balance.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/04/2013 17:19

Not worn Gossard in a long time. I'm narrow shouldered yet wide boobed, and I think they are relatively shallow so some (on me it's Panache) are a disaster. I get on quite well with Bravissimo own brand and Freya. Not as cheap but you might like the Bravissimo satine?

Sorrel I thought the Entice ran very small. I ordered a 28J in it and would definitely have needed to go up at least a cup size - realistically I probably need the 30J in it, I do love it though

Naoko · 20/04/2013 17:29

I'll have a look for those, thanks :) My nearest Bravissimo is an hour and a half on the train, and my local Debenhams stocks only a tiny amount of Freya so I haven't actually managed to try any on. I'll give the internet a go. I agree on Panache, I think I tried on every Panache in the store when I was last in Bravissimo and they were all awful on me. Have written that off, I do own one as I felt pressured into it by the Bravissimo lady but it doesn't actually fit me very well at all so god knows why I bought it.

SorrelForbes · 20/04/2013 17:44

Naoko I haven't found a single Panache, Fantasie or Freya that really do anything for me. I have a Freya Deco but rearely wear it.

NightmareWalking · 20/04/2013 19:27

Right ladies, please could you advise? I ordered a new bra (this one www.amazon.co.uk/Curvy-Kate-Romance-Balcony-Bra/dp/B0090FQHG2/ref=sr_1_32?s=clothing&ie=UTF8&qid=1366480761&sr=1-32&keywords=28hh if it helps) in a variety of sizes and back & cup wise, 28HH fits the best (can fit 2 fingers under the band and no more, boob completely encased in cup, no overspill). However the wires finish right at the back of my armpit and the shoulder straps chafe my armpits, if that makes sense. Is that a sign I've got the size wrong or is the style of bra? and if the latter, can you advise a style where the wires/straps would be better? Cheers!

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/04/2013 19:35

In a 28HH then the wires being pretty far round is pretty common. What size have you been wearing until now?

If you've just changed sizes quite a bit then part of the issue can be that you just aren't used to feeling the straps being as far out as they belong. But some are a lot worse than others - generally they are further in on plunges.

NightmareWalking · 20/04/2013 19:39

I had been in 32F. I don't usually like plunges as I don't feel very secure in them but maybe that would be better now I know the correct size..

Jenda · 20/04/2013 19:40

please could someone help me? I've put on huge amounts of weight and my already big boobs are even worse! losing weight currently but need some bras to see me through. using the leaning over method i am about 44 under and 55 over. m and s put me in a 42dd about a year ago when i was a bit slimmer. those bras are ok but now going up at the back due to my back fat! went to Evans the other day and they put me in a 48 e or f. couldn't get my boobs in the e and the the f didn't sit flat on my chest and was bloody awful. i am desperate. while i am so rotund i need a good bra to give me a chance of a waist! please help me Sad ..sorry about lack of caps, crappy phone

EMUZ · 20/04/2013 19:55

Try a 44H, 44J but you might need to try a 42 as well

EMUZ · 20/04/2013 19:55

HH that should have said

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/04/2013 20:00

As Emuz said - don't be scared to try a smaller back size. It's quite common for slightly larger ladies to need a band size which is smaller than their measurement.

Jenda · 20/04/2013 20:03

ok, is that because it helps suck bits in?! thank you. I've never been in Evans before and i was surprised at how totally rubbish they were! Smile

Jenda · 20/04/2013 20:03

thank you both i mean Smile

Jenda · 20/04/2013 20:05

Can anyone recommend anywhere to buy huge bras on a budget?

EMUZ · 20/04/2013 20:44

Have a look at Brastop website. eBay can be quite good too Smile

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/04/2013 20:45

It's more that the bra needs a relatively firm hold to provide support - which means that if you have a squishier torso you sometimes need a tighter band to provide this. Plus, longer bands can stretch further

marriednotdead · 20/04/2013 20:46

Naoko and Nightmarewalking
I think the issues that you are having may be solved by the same style of bra. The empty dent at the bottom of the cup often indicates that your boobs are not as deep (imagine top to bottom when looking in profile) as the cup was designed for. This may mean that your overall volume is more of a tubular or oblong shape extending from your body outwards.
The wires appear to wrap around your body because their width is more than the spacing of your breasts across the front of your body.

It is particularly common in very small band sizes.

The solution for both IME has been Cleo branded non padded styles such as Meg, Zia, Marcie etc. as their wires are bent into a much narrower U shape, positioning the breasts firmly at the front in a very forward and upward way.

AmazingDisgrace · 20/04/2013 21:01

Nightmarewalking- I found the CK Romance chafed from the detail on the straps first time I wore it but it's after a wash including fabric conditioner if that helps
