Is there a new bra intervention thread somewhere?

All of the other ones are closed now and I still need some help!

I didn't think I had the right shape boobs for a plunge style BUT the bras I bought at New Look the other day that are plunge have proved me wrong, it would seem I have more up top than I thought. To be honest, I think the fact that my chest is mis-shapen gives me a distorted view of how they look. In all fairness though, my boobs really don't look big at all even though my bra size is an F. I think though, I may have fallen victim to the media's definition of big boobs and the fact that no one admits to having anything larger than a D cup.

NightmareWalking · 20/04/2013 23:13

Thanks Married & Amazing - I'll wash this one and see in fabric softener helps and I'll try those Cleo styles the next time I go shopping!

Naoko · 20/04/2013 23:23

Thanks Married, I'll give those a try! Are there any lightly padded styles that would work at all? I haven't worn an unpadded bra for the best part of a decade, I always feel really self conscious in them because I get cold easily, shall we say Blush. I'll give them another shot in the interest of science, though!

Naoko · 20/04/2013 23:24

Oh, and I may have bra-interventioned a friend tonight. The subject came up, I told her I'd eat my hat if she actually is the size she's been wearing for years, and she's gone off home to find a tapemeasure...

SorrelForbes · 21/04/2013 00:02

Aha Naoko, you are now on the slippery slope to bra geekiness!

marriednotdead · 21/04/2013 00:24

Naoko The only one that comes to mind with moulding/padding that has wires that are not too wide is the Panache Porcelain plunge. It does do the empty space at the bottom thing, but it never seems to affect comfort or overall fit.

Naoko · 21/04/2013 00:31

Ah, you know how I mentioned above I own a single Panache bra? That'd be the one in question...it doesn't fit me very well sadly. Might be a size issue though, it's a little off, 32FF rather than 30G (shouldn't have let the Bravissimo woman tell me it was ok, it wasn't). It absolutely kills my neck for some reason.

AmazingDisgrace · 21/04/2013 00:51

sigh one of the Curvy Kate Tease Me's that I ordered was mislabeled. outside packaging said 30G, tag on the bra says 30GG. Tried it on and GG right, too big on me.

Cost me £20 so if anyone wants the Black/Silver am happy to sell on for that

Fregola · 21/04/2013 17:01

Just wanted to pop back to say thank you for the help on this thread. I've gone from a 34/36 dd to 32GG. It's made such a brilliant difference to be comfy and secure! Thanks :-)

forgetmenots · 21/04/2013 18:42

Can someone help me? I'm nearly at the end of pregnancy and want to buy some bras, ended up in tears in m&s, I measured as it says on your blog and mine are 36 45. (Bravissimo were much much better but I want to check with you ladies before I buy!!) thanks in advance so much!

marriednotdead · 21/04/2013 19:54

Hi forgetmeknots
What did Bravissimo come up with? Measurements would suggest a start point of 36G but nursing bras don't always fit to standard size.

forgetmenots · 21/04/2013 19:57

They said 36FF marriednotdead, so not far off what you're saying at all. Digging in a bit round the side so I think I need to master scooping (this is all new to me!) thanks so much! M&S said 40DD!!!!

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/04/2013 19:59

That sounds fairly reasonable to me forgetmenots - the cup size is always a bit harder to "get" with a tape measure (and as married says, nursing bras are a law unto themselves!)

M&S are full of when it comes to bra fitting. They fitted a size 6 friend in a 34 the other week.

HalfBakedCleverCookie · 21/04/2013 20:03

Oh great bra oracles - please do me!

I was measured by mothercare as a 34e, measured properly in bravissimo as a 32f and all was good.

Since then I have lost a fair bit of weight but apparently not from my boobs.

I bought a load of new wired bras in 32f and they don't fit!

New measurements 30 / 39 leaning over but 30 / 37 stood up.

OneLittleLady · 21/04/2013 20:03

I am very happy to report that after a few days wear, the New Look bras I bought are very comfortable. No 'four' boob look, no back fat or straps digging in. They actually fit better than the debenhams one I got which was more than twice the price for just the one bra. Will be going back for more so long as the local store keeps stocking them.

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/04/2013 20:13

Start off with a 30G HalfBaked and work from there

That's fab OneLittleLady - it's always good when you manage to find a really comfy bra (especially a bargain!)

OneLittleLady · 21/04/2013 20:16

I'm really chuffed SC not only are they comfy but they make my boobs look great and my tops fit better than ever. I hope they don't cancel making the range or anything, it would be such a shame as they are really good both style and fit wise for the price.

HalfBakedCleverCookie · 21/04/2013 20:30

Thanks SC I'm not 100% sure I measured the right bit now though, I bent over but didn't measure the bottom danggly bit, but slightly higher like on the picture, is that right?

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/04/2013 20:34

Measure the lowest dangly bit

forgetmenots · 21/04/2013 21:04

Thanks SC. think it's harder for me to bend down to get the measurements too! It's a better starting point than m&s that's for sure!

HalfBakedCleverCookie · 21/04/2013 21:20

That gives me 40, do I try 30GG? That seems massive but I don't feel that busty.

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/04/2013 21:58

I would certainly try the 30GG too. The cup size is always the hardest bit to measure for but I generally think it is almost easier to tell a too big cup over a too small one! And a 30GG isn't massive, I know it seems it because of the way bra sizes are portrayed though.

It's not unusual to go up in the cup after weight loss - the same happens to me as I tend to lose weight from my back measurement but not my overbust. A 32F is designed for a 39" bust so that's possibly what's happened with you too.

HalfBakedCleverCookie · 21/04/2013 22:22

That makes sense actually. I am still breastfeeding a fair bit so I expect that's why my breasts have stayed the same even though the band has gone down.

Thanks, I will get some ordered. Finally going to throw away my 34d's pretty as they are, I certainly don't fit in there any more.

RosieLig · 22/04/2013 07:06

Can I be intervened with please?! I am wearing a 32d but it's too big. I measured myself as 29 below and 34 above.

What size do you think I should wear?

Thanks!

SorrelForbes · 22/04/2013 07:09

Try a 28E, 28DD, 30DD and a 30D. I would expect the 28 to be closest in most brands.
