All of the other ones are closed now and I still need some help!

Oh sorry, I was speed-reading as usual!

Yep, sounds like a 30E might be a better size for you in some brands at least.

I'm wearing a new Juna today in a 30GG! It's a little baggy at the top where the lace is but the G is definitely too small. I'm going to try and take the lace off.

Beksybob · 15/04/2013 11:38

ooh, let me know how you get on with that because that was my only problem with the Juna - the lace

30E would be quite a bit different to the 34AAs I've got in the cupboard Grin

Kaida · 15/04/2013 19:59

Argh, follow-up help needed. I measured 28 and 33, so ordered a 28DD underwire balconette and a 30D slightly padded non-wired to try (normally wear a 34A!). I struggle to even do up the bands, but can do back to front then turn it and can breathe with it done up (though the 30D seems tighter than the 28DD so needs to be on the 2nd tightest of 4 settings not the tightest). The 30D just flattens my breasts completely against my chest, I look completely flat-chested, it's rubbish :( even with scooping. Much better with no bra at all. The middle bit between the breasts doesn't lay flat either. The wire on the 28DD digs in very painfully against my ribs.

  1. Where am I going wrong?
  2. How do I tell if a bra fits well?
EMUZ · 15/04/2013 20:17

Are you fastening on the loosest hook not the tightest? And when you say the wire doesn't lie flat is it sticking out? Does the wire sit on your breast tissue?

Kaida · 15/04/2013 20:56

EMUZ the underwired one (the 28DD), the wire isn't sticking out, it digs in painfully into my ribs (not on my breast tissue, it is flat on my ribs and really really tight there).
The non-wired one (the 30D) is the one which has the centre gore not laying flat. This is the bra that totally flattens my breasts against my chest. I have to do this one up on the 3rd tightest of 4 settings (tightest-but-one).

EMUZ · 15/04/2013 21:15

That would sound like the 28 band is right if its fastening on the loosest hooks. It could just be the style that isn't right. I have Freya bras that are theoretically the perfect size but the centre doesn't lie flat as the style doesn't suit me

EMUZ · 15/04/2013 21:17

Ah just seen its non wired. They never lie flat on me ever. More difficult to get that on non wired

SorrelForbes · 15/04/2013 22:24

Kaida OK, a new bra should always (unless it's a maternity bra) be done up on the loosest hooks. If you're doing them up on the middle or tighter hooks then they're almost certainly too big in the band.

I wear a 30 but would find it difficult to do one up at the front and then swivel it round to the back without undoing the hooks.

It sounds to me like you need a bigger cup size in both bras and that the 30 is too big in the band.

I can't really comment on the non-wired one as I haven't worn one since I was about 14 but I know that many people find that they can't get the centre gore to lie flat at all.

The Better Bra Campaign blog will tell you what you need to look for in a good fitting bra.

Silverstar2 · 16/04/2013 07:40

I find it frustrating because I am pretty sure I need to go down a band size - all my new 34's are now on the middle or tightest hook after a couple of weeks, but because of a frozen shoulder I cannot get my left arm behind my back (has been that way for 3 years now, no matter how much physio I have) so have to do up at the front and swivel round, which I know would be too hard in a 32 .

I know I haven't got it right - currently living in a 34G Juna, but have lots of under arm and back fat, but full cup bras which I know would help always come too far up under my arm and dig in.

I am about ready to give up on ever finding the right bra. Have been in and out of bravissimo, but still can't get it right. Not so bad now as still wearing cardi's to cover the lumps, but dreading summer in just t-shirts, when I look awful and lumpy at the back.

Sorry, went off a bit there!

SorrelForbes · 16/04/2013 08:57

Have you tried putting on a 32 and swivelling it round? It'd be hard but should be just about possible with perseverance. Not sure how much that would also hurt your shoulder though?

Have you tried a bigger cup in the Juna?

Silverstar2 · 16/04/2013 10:42

Well I have the Cleo Darcy in a 34GG, but that seems to come up smaller as I get digging in under the arms. I think part of the probelm is that I have flabby underarms! Now I know/have learnt since reading these threads that this is more than likely breast tissue from yeeeaaars of badly fitting bras or at least some of it, but I cannot find a bra that gets it in the right place and keeps it there!

I may try a 32.......... it is just all driving me a bit mad at the moment, I so want it to be right.

Thank you SF for helping.

These bras are a proper mind fuck, if you'll pardon my language.

I was on bout These yesterday. Was wearing the black one and complaining about underarm bulge. The white one I'm wearing today has much less underarm bulge! It's a bloody 2 pack, FFS!

Although, I do recall reading about black ones being tighter because of the dye on here a while back. Still annoying though.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/04/2013 11:42

I think summarising bras as a mind fuck is probably accurate. The whole "black bras being smaller" thing does seem to be true IME - I have had numerous cases of "nude/white bra fits, black bra tight" over the years.

Major PITA when they are sold as a 2 pack thougH!

SorrelForbes · 16/04/2013 18:38

Well, she didn't last long Lingerie chief leaves

Silverstar2 · 16/04/2013 18:45

SorrelForbes · 16/04/2013 19:53

Grin sadly, I don't think my limited retail experience (Saturday job in a bakery and a short stint at JL in the accounts section over 20 years ago) would impress the interview panel.

Anyone here work in bras?

marriednotdead · 17/04/2013 06:19
Grin I don't think M&S would want me, I'd make them sling out everything and start again!
marriednotdead · 17/04/2013 06:46

Becksey
It sounds as if you need a 'flatter' style so the cup is more spread across the width of your boobs. A couple of colleagues with similar sizes to you and the same issues wear mainly Gossard styles although I have no experience of them. I'd also recommend Curvy Kate bras from their Showgirl range.
When you look at a bra, you need to find ones where the wires are as wide apart as possible so that the outer ends will extend beyond your breast tissue by your armpits.

Beksybob · 17/04/2013 08:22

Thanks married I'll keep an eye out for widely spaced wires, and check out gossard. I did try a Curvy Kate Thrill Me, but the cups were insanely massive. I dissapeared right into them, never to be seen again...until I took it off that is.

SorrelForbes · 17/04/2013 08:33

Happy to provide you with a reference Married Grin

I don't think M&S would want me, I'd make them sling out everything and start again!

Well, this would fit with recommendations on the M&S thread that's running at the moment!

Autumn12 · 17/04/2013 11:54

OK well I tried on a bra in a 32D and there was no way it fitted. The band was tight and the clasp was slightly straining. I was also spilling out of the cups... should I try a 34 back?

SorrelForbes · 17/04/2013 11:59

What is your underbust measurement?

How did the band feel when you tried it on back to front? It definitely sounds like the cup is much too small which could be distroting the fit of the band.

Autumn12 · 17/04/2013 12:01

Measurements are 31.5 underbust, 36 around nipples.

The band felt tight, I'm used to wearing a 36 band though so anything smaller would feel odd. I didn't try it back to front. It was a nursing bra so the cups were a lot differently shaped to what i'm used to. I usually wear slightly padded underwired T-shirt bra's.
