£800 to spend on a bag what would you go for

Been lusting after a bayswater for ages. But something holding me back, which other bags are classics which wont date....

Bloody hell. Do those of you having a go have a problem with any spend above the bare minimum or is it just handbags that are particularly offensive?

I would go with mulberry for that money myself. Very classic and gorgeous.

Horizon - that was me! I tried lots of bags, bought a Mulberry bayswater in the end. I still consider a bench to be a total waste of money.

OP - a standard Bays is about £795 in most shops, if you want something other than the standard colours or standard finish, you'll pay more, but if you want it to last you years, then you might as well get the traditional finish and colour.

However, if it's not going to be quite so 'forever' then there are lots of other nice bags on this thread. Don't let the "your a mother now, and some people somewhere in the world are suffering so you must never treat yourself and any spare money must be spent on your DCs or on charitable causes" types stop you spending your money if you have it spare.

I treated my self to a Prada handbag a few years back but then used it everyday and it got boring. These days I'd rather buy a few good quality Italian leather ones and rotate them. Just under £100 suits me and I got a gorgeous red one from //www.kimandjo.com recently.

I've always quite liked bags, but never spent more than about £150 on one. But bloody hell, this thread is converting me to buying an investment bag! I absolutely adore the Mulberry Bayswater, and some of those Balenciaga bags are gorgeous as are some of the Gucci ones. What an enjoyable hour or so I have spent taking a look! I don't know how you'll decide, OP!

I have a black leather Mulberry Bayswater. Have had a couple of people admire it. Very nice bag. But only got it for a very special birthday from DH. He was shocked at the price like most men are.....

I would be considering Gucci or Tom Ford or Smythson. I am unmoved by Mulberry, and also irrelevant comments on what someone wants to spend money on.

I have a bayswater and a balenciaga day bag and have used the balenciaga loads. I make no excuses for not being precious about how it looks, ie heavily used.

The way i look at it is that i would rather have one expensive bag than lots of cheap bags that i will easily tire of. Not that i have to jutify what i spend my money on to others.

Op i would say that if you want to go to the mulberry route go to an outlet. If you cant get to one give them a ring. They will post out bags that are mot seconds etc.

I like Bayswater bags but Prada at Bicester have beautiful bags if you are anywhere nearby. I got a lovely tan one for around £500, it is quite a classic style so will hopefully use it for years.

I would either buy a Bayswater or get two bags...

I love my Bayswater. It's such a classic and subtle style. A slight word if caution, they are fairly high maintenance to begin with. You have to waterproof the leather otherwise they get water stained.

In response to the comments about price. I really do believe in buying good quality items. If you can afford it, then don't let others influence you. Everyone spends their money on different things. If you are going to use it as an everyday bag you will get good value per wear!

A good bag holds it's resale and looks good,and if yiu can afford it you don't need to justify
Least of all not to the just use a manky freezer bag, it's cheaper,crew
