£800 to spend on a bag what would you go for

Been lusting after a bayswater for ages. But something holding me back, which other bags are classics which wont date....

To be fair, the truly wealthy and classy people I know wouldn't be seen dead with a " statement" handbag costing hundreds.
The only women I know who hanker after these silly bags are those on very ordinary wages living very ordinary lives who have watched far too much SATC and who think an overpriced bag will give them status they can't get through their mediocre jobs and homes.

I saw the Anya Hindmarch bag JumpHerWho linked to yesterday. It is a fabulous bag and if I had the money I wouldn't hesitate!

People are often shocked by others spending habits aren't they?

When I see threads on here asking people to recommend a computer tablet for their 3 year old I find myself shouting 'They are 3 years old! Get them some plastic dinosaurs and some Thomas the Tank Engine trains or something!' Save your money ffs so you can spend it on mulberry bags and cigarettes

I'm not convinced by a lot of status bags. There are artisans making beautiful bags for less and I'd rather have one of those (and I don't mean ones fashioned from organic goat udders).

Having said that, I do like those Balenciaga bags

It's a silly amount of money but it's silly to start criticising - I'm quite sure the OP is fully aware that eight hundred quid isn't exactly peanuts.

No, I can't afford the bags I have suggested but I am not begrudging people for being richer than me :) and yes, the people I know who have a lot of money do have expensive bags.

Same here international. And I don't begrudge them one bit - they know they're buying quality products that look great and will hold their value for years. Their money, their choice, their business.

The amount of judging that goes on here is depressing.

I'm another one who would buy a bag for, hmm, £200- and spend the rest on a nice long weekend. Maybe Bruges. I haven't ever been there.

At least your bag will last for years and you'll get some joy out of it. An iPad on the hands of a pre-schooler is going to be broken within months.

its partly the fact that its not even a case of seeing an amazing bag that have then found out the extortionate price of. Its youve got £800 to waste so are just trying to find any old thing to waste it on according to the brand. Whats "a bayswater" ? Surely thats just a brand, Not even a specific bag you have fallen in love with.

The last bag i bought was a bolla, good quality leather, from a lovely independant shop with great service and was about £60 and has lasted me years and still looks as good as new.

Checking out bolla bags they have one similar to one of the £900 ones shown, but for less than 10% of the price.

I wouldn't have the money to spend on a posh bag but have no problem with those that do.

I'd definately rather have a nice handbag that get a toddler a tablet. Kids can have expensive stuff when they can afford to pay for it themselves

I recommend Mulberry. I have two and they are lovely bags which last and last. I'm not a handbag person so don't have dozens of them, hence why I like the couple that I have to be really decent ones.

I have three jas mb bags and can't rate them highly enough. Mine were all bought for pounds in sample sales before anyone starts on me . They are classic and not status bags, so haven't dated. I think he has a website now, though liberty used to sell them too. I have a small bowling bag, an over the body cracked leather bag that is quite large and a small soft satchel cross body bag.

I also like Monsieur hulot bags as they are made in Britain and again don't seem to date. Sorry I can't do links on this phone.

I'm looking for a smartish leather bag that can take an A4 folder, but I don't really fancy a briefcase. I did a swift Google GreenEggs - there are a couple of those Jas MB bags that I'd rather like and might fit the bill.

Bayswaters are gorgeous but they are too common now (I know, I know). I got mine second hand on eBay but sold it when I realised it was too heavy for me. I love the LV Neverful bags but I dislike logo bags so wont be getting one. The bag I use all the time is a Miu Miu shopper. It's fab and looks chic.

I almost bought a Bayswater a few years ago and bought a Miu Miu bag instead which I LOVE. Also love (and have) a Stella McCartney bag. Have you called the stores in Bicester too? They often have last seasons colours greatly reduced.

If you can afford to spend that much on a bag then good for you. Nobody knows what you had to do to come by that money or what it means to you xx
