Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

Normal up to a point, and moulded do it more imo than non moulded

NorthernNumpty · 02/03/2013 15:09

Ah thanks, it's a moulded one.

shash1982 · 02/03/2013 15:36

Been reading this thread & it's great! So quick question as I really need help with measurements (keep being told different size from store to store), if I'm 32 under & about 34 over what size would u recommend? Take it my 32b is wrong? Want amazing boobz! Grin

SorrelForbes · 02/03/2013 17:44

shash1982 I'd say your 32B is about right actually. Did you hold the tape measure really tightly for the underbust measurment and loosely for the across bust measurement?

OP posts:
shash1982 · 02/03/2013 17:53

Oops, held it tightly across too! Just measured again, leaning over & loosely & across is 36, does that make a difference? Think might need to try different styles otherwise. ThankQ Sorrell!

SorrelForbes · 02/03/2013 17:54

Yep, a difference indeed! Try a 32D!

shash1982 · 02/03/2013 17:56

Whoop, whoop a D! ThankQ Thanks. Now just to convince OH to buy me some new underwear. [grins].

Dysgu · 02/03/2013 21:10

Hi I too have been lurking on these bra threads and bought a tape measure today so that I could come on and ask for some advice.

I measured according to the advice - tight underneath and leaning over and loose across the bust. I am 36 underneath and 41 on top.

I am also 32 weeks pregnant and am in need of some maternity/breast feeding bras as I am wearing the ones from 2 pregnancies ago! I think they are 34B and 36B (but have not been to check and am in my PJs now and bra less).

Should I buy new bras now or wait a few more weeks? The ones I have are comfy when I put them on in the morning but really uncomfortable as the day goes on (to such a degree I even undid it the other day and taught for the afternoon without and that was comfier! Luckily boobs are getting full and I am now on maternity leave).

Thanks...

Limoncellolovely · 02/03/2013 21:27

Hello Statistically Challenged thank you for your help earlier went into Bravissimo to be fitted and am different sizes depending on style & make. I have spent the last god knows how long thinking certain tops just look terrible on me when actually it's my bra I simply cannot believe the difference it makes I look a dress size smaller !!! I now have a very large bagful of very nice but useless to me 34Bs which I am going to stick in the charity box in Bravissimo so that they can be recycled.

CelticPromise · 02/03/2013 21:33

Dysgu on measurements you would be a 36DD but I expect you're likely to go down a back size or two. You might want to consider trying 34E with an extender? I believe you're likely to go up a few cup sizes but this settle down quite quickly to an extent.

stoofadoof · 02/03/2013 21:43

hmm been lurking for a few days? 37 under and 45 over and realise my 'new' (M&S measured 38D) bras are actually from when DD was born 6 years ago Blush ahem? I assume I can do better than that!?!? Also - been looking for some advice on a sports bra too - intend to start running again, but my old sports bras are incredibly uncomfortable? any advice appreciated!!!

LittlePandaBear · 02/03/2013 21:50

Stoof - maybe try a 36FF as a starting point! Or a 38F. Get yourself to Bravissimo if you can!

Shattereddreams · 02/03/2013 21:58

I've read all three (or is it 4 now?) threads. I posted on first

I actually have always been in the right size, but never in a comfy and shape suitable bra.

You inspired me and I have been non stop since then which was before Christmas I think. I have tried over 60 bra's.

I have narrow sloping shoulders. Fairly wide set and bottom heavy boobs which start at my armpit. I found pretty much all bras available were too wide for me, the straps when coming vertically up from the cups are balanced precariously on the edges of my shoulders.

BUT

I finally found it.
Panache Superbra Andorra Full cup

The lace is stretchy so it stretches over my slightly larger boob whilst fitting my other. The cups are a bit more triangular so straps when vertical are closer to my neck. (all my other bras are Anita if this sounds familiar).

It runs small in the back, and small in the cup. I usually wear a 32F. I bought a 32FF and its a proper tight new fit (will give a bit but then will last longer) and the FF feels like a half cup bigger than the F for all my scooping.

Ps in link at figleaves, the colour lagoon clearly doesn't fit the model. The other colours are much better. Highly recommend this bra....

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/03/2013 23:34

So glad you've found the bra for you - it really makes all the difference. I have to thank SorrelForbes for introducing me to Ewa Michalak. I wore my first EM bra today and I am in LOVE

AmazingDisgrace · 03/03/2013 00:36

I bagged one today! SIL who is the UK retail head of a very big cosmetics brand was visiting (Thanks for the freebies from MC BTW since I've just outed myself to her) was wearing a 36c, is off shopping tomorrow for 32FF

AmazingDisgrace · 03/03/2013 00:40

And she was utterly in denial that this measurement was possible until she tried some of my 34Fs and I showed her how that band was too loose. I've taught her how to scoop as well. If this was Brownies I'd get my boob badge!

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 01:05

Another convert...changing the nations breasts two boobs at a time!

AmazingDisgrace · 03/03/2013 02:00

She tried on my Rossetti, She,s same age as me but no children. I might donate to her fuller boobs #sulky

SorrelForbes · 03/03/2013 08:40

SC I'm so pleased you like your EM. I'm awaiting my order of three EM bras and keeping everything crossed that at least one fits. Even with P&P I think they're very reasonably priced.

Oh, that's it! For our campaign we need 'A Star In A Reasonably Priced Car'.

SorrelForbes · 03/03/2013 08:41

Oh bloody hell! Priced Bra! Bra! Bra!

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 09:15

I love that!

Kopparbergkate · 03/03/2013 11:01

Sorry -this is a long one....finally found my tape measure and the results are.... surprising....35.5" under, 58" around, tipped forward. According to Ewa, that makes me a 90M or 36M (which kind of explains why my 38k's are leaving marks)... Does 90M sound right?

Thing is, I'm 35 weeks pregnant so do I (A) order a/some 90M feeding bras - which are underwired - from Ewa. This is a risk if i change size before they arrive cus I won't be able to return them (cus they're specials) OR (B) order a different size (but what?) OR (C) wear the bras I've got which leave marks and hard patches of squashed skin...

The other option I thought I had was to buy the biggest cup/back combination I could and take the back in myself. I don't think that will work because the biggest combo I can find (bravissimo) is 40k; that's only equivalent to a 36L isn't it (2 back sizes down = 2 cup sizes up?) and I need a 36M.... 6" is also a helluva lot to take out of the back anyway...

All ideas gratefully received

justanothertenminutes · 03/03/2013 11:08

I've gone down a back size and up a cup size as per my measurements and it feels like a much better fit and looks great! I do the scooping as you suggest but after a while it creeps back out just under my armpit and the side of the bra digs into it, what's that all about then?
